9-BALL: Francisco BUSTAMANTE vs Efren REYES - 1994 20th SANDS REGENCY 9-BALL OPEN
Спорт
Bustamante vs Reyes 9-Ball - In 1994, The Sands Regency 9-Ball Open in Reno, Nevada was a major stop on the Pro Billiards Tour. The best players in the world were always there. Two of the best Filipinos, Francisco Bustamante, 30, and Efren Reyes, 40, battled it out in a great match. Reyes just won the 1994 U.S. Open 9-Ball title while Bustamante was still making a name for himself.
Grady Mathews and Buddy Hall, in the booth, were as much a show as the match. Don’t miss it.

For sure. I've walked out of tournaments because of slow players.
It’s quite a treat to watch these two young men have a go at each other. Then I go watch them from just a month or so ago playing in the Philippines. The eyes have gotten older, the paunch has gotten bigger, but the stroke is just as magical.
Thanks for all that you do, Pat. I met Efren a few months ago, and he was like the exact same guy with the exact same stroke and gait, just gray hair.
I have played 8- and 9-ball in germany with francisco bistamante..as he was a local newcomer...soon after his raise was about to begin! what a monster player. surely one of the goats.
Tremendous players, and fantastic commentators.
Francisco Bustamante is the reason I started playing pool.
Happy Thanksgiving to all the pool fans out there!!

Pretty amazing to watch pool played at this level, very graceful.
I sure do miss Grady. I chatted with him shortly before he passed. He helped me with my game so much.

Two all-time legends playing the game. Smooth as butter with their strokes. Announced by two legends, The Rifleman and The Professor, my two favorite commentators. Never cared for Incardona of Diliberto for calling matches.

Thanks for another great match Pat!
When Efren was ahead 7 - 2, I thought he was going to win for sure, but Bustamante came back strong for the win. Thanks for another great match upload. I miss your "Make It Happen" yearly event and hope it returns someday.

What an absolute masterclass. 👏👏👏
Weird to see the audience actually looking at the match rather than scrolling their phones..I miss the time before smartphones. People were real and present
Thanks so much for posting. I’m actually watching the commercials to show my appreciation.
Great match. I sure as heck wasn't expecting it to be this tight one from the win with Efren on a 7-2 lead early on.

This is as good as pool productions will ever be. As close to perfection as possible. Real players, top play, no bs.

@Accu-stats do you have a video of Efren/busti/ or parica playing other discipline of pool?
Tremendos jugadores
Revisiting this game and enjoying those two masters art and the superb commentary that sticks to the game and doesn't vary from the game at hand. Something today's commentators should emulate and stop the breathless yakking about everything but the game going on on the table.
Gonna watch some Dr dave while I wait impatiently 🤣

Unless they are Invitationals.
Imagine that. You can play amazing without carbon fiber shafts, LD shafts, extensions, gloves, $30 chalk.
longer races + winner breaks + loser racks + faster shooting = more exciting pool
is this the same tournament where reyes made the z- shot?

No. The z-shot was in 1995 vs Strickland.
Why Efren missed the 2 ball? Its his offortunity to finish the game

Give those commentators a shot (or two).... it sounds like they're commentating from beyond the grave ;) [And good tip for commentators who cough: take the fkn mic off]....
I must admit, as entertaining as the commentary is, boy do they suck at judging these shots. To be fair it's not entirely their fault. This is really before either of them had shown the world what they could really do, consistently no less, this is the same year as the z shot, probably before, and Bustamonte was still green, and the type of play that Bata and Busta brought here to the US had never been seen before, so all the commentators had to go on was their own experience, which in the case of these two was quite inadequate to say the least. Im not criticizing them per se, but its funny to hear the commentary change over the next year or two especially concerning Efren as people slowly put their heads up and said 'wait, what did he just do...... again?'. Its most definitely a case of hindsight being 20/20, it eould be like some US commentators trying to cover an el clasico from the heyday of Messi/Ronaldo when all they've ever seen is the MLS.....
maybe efren missed the 2 on purpose to give his best friend a chance.

I used to live in the Philippines and I played 8 - ball with a team from my favorite bar against other teams from other bars. The rule were "all foreigners except for one Pinoy". The Pinoy were always the best players. One guy named "Bong" I never, ever beat. Pinoys are truly fantasticly talented.
