I was a Marine grunt in Vietnam. Always have thought I was pretty tough. Tears were not in me. Who is now my ex-wife, and I, were watching this show that night. About mid way of this song, the tears began to pour. Any other time if that had happened, I would left the room from embarrassment from anyone seeing my emotions. Not that night. I had tears for our country. I had tears for our men and women in the military, because I just had a sick feeling in my stomach of what they, you, were about to face. Today, twenty one years later, I still have tears for our country. Welcome home my friend. From an old Jarhead, Semper Fi.

It was like yesterday in my mind. It was the worst day of my life. Sept. 12 was the proudest. We were truly ONE NATION under god. Flags were flown as far as the eye could see. They couldn’t make flags fast enough. It was truly a glorious sight to behold!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Wonderful reaction. I was at home, in my office waiting for my husband to let me know he had arrived at the Pentagon. Thankfully, he was running late and was on the exit ramp for the Pentagon when the plane hit and all my kids were in school, I was an emotional basket case until I heard from him and got the kids home. I paced, cried, prayed and tried to understand how anyone could murder thousands of innocent people.

This song was brought to my attention by my loving girlfriend, after I had told her where I was from. I was in Brooklyn New York. New York will always be my home and this country will always be my country. I have fought twice and almost died twice for this country. This song reminds me of of 9/12 when we were United and not tore apart. We need 9/12 again. I love New York. I love my home, I love my country, I love my brothers and sisters who have paid the ultimate sacrifice and I love my country men and woman.

I was working the mid shift, and left work at 3AM. I got home and went to sleep, but woke up just before 9 AM. I turned on the TV, and saw that a plane had hot the first tower. While the broadcast was playing, I watched as the 2nd plane struck its target. I stared at the TV, not believing what I was seeing. I reached for the phone, and dialed my mom. She picked up, and I just said, is this real? She said, yes. We stayed on the phone in stunned silence, weeping. I cried every day for months after this cowardly act was perpetrated on our great country. So many heroes died that day. Their bravery will live forever, and we must never Forget them.

I'll never forget. I was turning 11,my sister was turning 8 and we woke up hearing my dad screaming,my mom crying. We walked into the living room and I look at the TV and saw the 2nd plan hit the 2nd tower. We just sat with our mom and cried and keep watching. Ever year I watch the documentary and a movie called inside the twin towers. Big respect to everyone that day.

I remember I was in 5th grade and my teacher turned on the news. (Florida) all of the parents were picking up their children and I was the only one left in my class. Me and my teacher cried together. When I got home my dad thought he was watching a movie and didn’t realize it was actual news. He was inspired to paint the 3 fireman holding the flag in the rubble on the side of his van. Seeing such tragedy at such a young age taught me compassion.

I live in Australia I was 14 years old and I woke up and got read for school and my parents were both home and I walked out to them watching the news and remember seeing the footage of the smoking towers and just this overwhelming sense of grief for everyone in the United State. I went to school and everyone had the same reaction. It was the first time I remember my whole school joining hands in prayer. This song is one of the greatest songs ever written and it always has and always will make me cry.

I was at work when a co-worker answered a call. It was her husband, a retired Navy Seal. At that time, everyone thought it was an unthinkable accident. When he called the second time, he said, "That's it, we're at war." Then we knew. I went to Target for a television so we could follow the news. Watching those towers collapse live on television is something we will always remember. Never forget.

I was a nurse and had worked the 11-7 shift, went home and crawled into bed about 8:00am and fell asleep. The next thing I heard was my neighbor from across the road bursting through my front door ( in our area the neighborhood was so safe we never locked the doors) so she ran in screaming my name. Totally scared me awake! She said " turn on the TV a plane has hit one of the Twin Towers in New York. I turned on CNN and could see the fire and smoke from the first tower. Just shortly after we watched as the second plane hit. I was in such shock It seemed so unreal yet I knew that it was because I was watching it happen! I started receiving phone calls and making phone calls and I felt completely helpless. I had a sense of urgency to just do something, anything to help! My husband was ( and still is ) our fire chief ) so I went to the fire dept because I didn't want to be alone and I wanted to be there in case someone needed help or assistance with anything that I could provide. Even in our small southern town it affected us terribly! I've never forgotten and never will! God please bless America and all the people that have been affected by the horrible acts of that day and all the military, first responders and volunteers who serve to protect and defend our country.

This song always gives me the chills. I was getting ready for work with the news on, I remember seeing the North tower consumed with smoke and then saw the second plane fly into the South tower. After arriving at work, which was approximately 20-25 miles from the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport, yet I saw zero planes in the skies for days. I remember talking with my 10 year old nephew and he mentioned how it was now too scary to...say go to the mall. I told him yes, it is (was) scary but if we stop living our normal lives, then the terrorists win. ICYMI - The terrorists lost.

I was there! Survivor and first responder. Tower 1 fell on top of my office. No need to have “Never Forget” printed cuz I never will. I remember finally making it to my mother full of dust, ash, soot and she dropped to her knees hysterically crying cuz there was no way to let her know I was alive until then. I must’ve hugged my son and mother for an hour str8. I don’t have PTSD or anything but I haven’t been to the site ever since recovering the last remains we were able. Absolutely beautiful song!!! All Americans should listen to Where Were U and Red, White & Blue AT LEAST 3X a year. July 4th, 9/11 and Veteran’s Day. #usofa #9/11 #staysafe

Thank you for reacting to this song. I remember 9/11. I was at home. I had graduated in June of 2001 and was 18. It was so shocking seeing the plane fly into the one tower, another plane flying into the other, one tower fall, and then the other. Then hearing about the plane the heroes stopped from hitting anything but that field in Pennsylvania and the plane that hit the Pentagon. I also remember watching that CMA awards show and the chills I got when Alan first performed this song. I still get chills hearing it.

And especially the brave men on woman on Flight 93 that didn't let the plane reach it's destination. All the people who gave their all I pray all who lost someone that day. I was on duty as a Paramedic that morning, it was a Tuesday and detail day, so we were all out washing and cleaning, Amanda came out to tell us about the first plane, so I turned on the radio to listen, second plane hit, we finished up real quick, we did what most did that day, we watched TV, then went around town lowering our flag to half staff. A year and half later, I was in Iraq to care for the sick and injured, Balad

Thank you for reacting to this song!! I was nine years old, just starting class, and the principal came on the loudspeaker, telling all the teachers to turn on their TVs and tune in to the news channel immediately. When she did, I saw buildings burning, replays of airplanes flying into them, exploding, and saw people jumping from the buildings to their death. None of us rowdy kids said a word. When the first tower came down, one kid said "But there's still people in there!" It really cemented in the fact that so many people died. Our teacher was horrified as well, but she held her composure and encouraged us to talk about this with our families, especially if we had questions that she couldn't answer. If I can remember correctly, we did a memorial project immediately. "I really hope our country gets it's shit together." AMEN SIR.

I was 9 years old in my English class. the teachers turned on the tv's. THey were crying or running to other rooms, calling loved ones. Kids were being pulled out of school and I remember when I got home, that's all we could watch, just everything happening and I saw my dad cry for the first time. He worked for Travelocity at the time and had talked to people and put people on two of the flights that went down that day. 9/11 is hard day for him even 20 years later. My brother who graduated that year immediately joined the Air Force.

I was on my way into work when the first tower was hit. I remember feeling sick to my stomach and praying I was wrong and that it was an accident like they were first reporting it “might” have been, but I doubted it. I had just walked into the job when a few minutes later the second tower confirmed my fears. As a military brat whose family was stationed overseas more than home it was always one of my biggest fears while we were in those countries. That it happened on our own soil in the one place I had always expected to feel safe? It was pretty devastating. So I did what a choir girl who’s been singing most of her life does when she feels out of control. I started singing patriotic songs and hymns…and making a list of all the songs that screamed American pride to me. As I worked in retail, word got around about what I was doing and co-workers started contributing to the list, and we eventually burned a patriotic themed CD and started playing it through our store. People loved it. Would sing along. And somehow we found a little bit of comfort in the uniting feelings of patriotism, pride, and grief. Thank you for your service.

Great words by Alan Jackson. Thank you for your service, Tom. I worked for TRANSCOM and we helped move missiles for the jets. But even before that, I was in NYC on 9/11. I knew people who worked in the towers, been to the observation deck a few times, and even knew a guy who helped build the towers. Lots goes through my mind every year around 9/11. It took about 7 hours to finally get home and a couple hours to spend with family before heading out to check in with my unit. What a day it was. We'll never forget!! God Bless America!

Thank you again for your service, Tom. I am a trucker and I worked for a company that handled air freight so I was in and out of Detroit Metropolitan Airport multiple times every day. I had just loaded at our terminal for my first trip of the day to the Northwest Airlines cargo facility. I got in my truck just before 9 AM, the first plane had already hit and they were taking about it on the radio. Just as I got to my delivery point, the second plane hit and the realization hit that this was no accident. I listened on the radio all day long. What really struck me throughout the day was how eerily silent the day was, as all aircraft had been grounded. Never before and never since has this major airport been so quiet. My first time actually seeing what had happened was when I returned home at about 7:45 that evening, long after the events of the day had unfolded. I just sat and cried. One month prior, my wife and I had found out that she was pregnant with our first child. All I could think was “What kind of world am I bringing my son into?”. It really hit me hard, and the memories still hit hard today.

Thanks for your and our other heroes' service, Tom. I lived and worked near the Pentagon at the time. When l heard, I was at work, and I made my way to a small conference room where a bunch of folks were already crowded around a borrowed TV. Our CEO came in, watched for about 30 seconds, then stated that we should "get back to business as usual." He rejected people's requests to leave to get to their families and said, "Hey, if this is the end of the world, there's nothing you can do about it so you might as well be working." Once he left I went to get my kids anyway. The next day I cleaned out my desk and personally handed him my resignation.

Thank you for your service. I'm a Viet Nam vet and sorry to admit that I, like so many of my brothers, was in prison when it happened. I had been at work since 5 A.M. in the commissary, a small store for the inmates, with an officer and two other inmates, when there was a short emergency broadcast notice on the radio. We were working and not really paying attention, thinking it was just a test. When it registered what they were saying were like "what the f***, is this real or some kind of sick prank?" They closed the store early and sent us to our cellblocks. A cellblock holds 120 inmates and the dayroom with the T.V. held about 50, but was packed with guys watching CNN. Believe it or not, almost all of us were pissed and wanted whoever did it to be bombed till there was nothing but a glass parking lot remaining. The very few who had anything negative to say were told to shut the F*** up and get out of the dayroom.

Thank you for your service! I remember watching this and to this day, I cry. I was working for a cab company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as a dispatcher when the news of the attacks started being shown. Even in our small city, fear and shock were felt. People were frightened to drive but they'd take a cab to the store to stock up, or to go to their families. It was such a difficult day and by the time I got off work 13 hours later(my replacement didn't show up) my voice was shot from taking so many calls, dispatching them to cabs, and the sheer stress of the day. I'm in agreement with you about the state of our country. After 9/11 there was unity, when we have natural disasters, we have unity. Why do we save our love and compassion for tragic occasions? We have shown that we can do it! It's time for us to do better! 🇺🇸❤🙏

I was at a store in Jenks, Oklahoma buying shop supplies. Heard about it, left my stuff on the belt and rushed back to the shop. Called them on the way, yelling, "Turn the TV on!" Raced inside and stared in disbelief at the screen. Dropped to my knees and wept. On a side note, on April 15, 1995, I was on the 7th floor of the Bank of Oklahoma building on 71st and Yale when the Murrah Federal Building was bombed. Two dates that changed me as a person.

Even with seed the images on TV I couldn't register it and at around Noon I told my mom I was going for a hair cut. She tried to tell me there was no haircut, wed Bern attacked, but my brain couldn't register it. I left and was on 11th street and the ground shook, a man fell to his tears on his knees, that's when it registered and I I broke down. To this day when I hear a plane above, or a boom sound I tense up. Ill never forget.

I was glad the country came together and I cry for the families of our 13 servicemen who were recently killed.

As a Canadian, I know where I was and what I was doing and my military husband was in Afghanistan at the time. I was transfixed to the television for the whole week as I watched in horror of what had happened and the following news that was on our news channel. Selfishly, I was happy to hear my husband's voice telling me that he was fine but that they were on guard and he wasn't sure when he'd be able to call me again. One week that I will never forget. RIP to all who perished and condolences to all who lost a loved one.

I was at work when a coworker told everyone that a plane hit the world trade center. I thought OMG what a horrible accident. Then she came back and said a 2nd plane had hit...and shock and fear set in. And it happened again at the Pentagon and another plane crashed in a field. It was terrifying because nobody understood what was happening. I haven't listened to this song on years and I'm sitting here crying.

I was in kindergarten and remember the teachers turning on the tvs and all of them crying and we were just too young to understand why but we knew it was something really really bad. Thank you for the video. I was 24 years old when the world stopped turning. I was driving a tractor-trailer for Keystone Freight out of Greensboro NC, delivering to a K-mart store in Charlottesville, VA when I heard the news. I did call my mother and told her I loved her,, just like the song said. No one knew exactly what was happening, or what to expect to happen next. This song has always meant a lot to me. I'm pushing 46 years of age now, but I will never forget that day.

I was teaching at an elementary school. The teachers knew and were watching it on computers trying not to let the kids know. Then our principal came on the intercom and announced it crying which scared the children. It was chaos after that. We are in rural Mississippi so no one had a parent or relative there and the kids didn’t really understand what happened or where New York was. To them it was the town 30 minutes away. We all had to stay calm and convince the kids that it was ok and no one would hurt them. We lied because we didn’t know what was going on either.

I was in second period world history class and I’ll never forget watching my teacher completely break down watching the news. We lived in Chicago and my high school was just outside the city but because of being a major city they evacuated all schools. We lived down the street (like 8 blocks) from midway airport and the silence was deafening. You get so used to planes flying overhead that you don’t notice it until they are gone.

As we talked, the 2nd plane hit. I told him we were at war…. Our house is just a short Way from Shanksville- where Flight 93 went down. It flew over my in-laws house -upside down- and crashed over the next Hill.💔🇺🇸

I was in 6th grade in math class. I saw the smoke and fire from the first plane and then saw the next one hit. My dad was actually flying that day and my mom was afraid that it could have been him. I didn’t truly understand the magnitude of it all until we saw scenes from that day in a compilation played with the song “With arms wide open”. It was the following week and I just remember crying and I remember that the whole nation came together and we were all proud to be Americans.

First off thank you for your service! I have lots of military in my family. As far as where was I on 9/11. I was in my bed and mom woke me up to come watch with her the news. At that point the first tower was hit. We sat down on the couch and we saw the second plane hit. I looked at mom and said this is no accident. Then we heard about the other 2. Mom and I sat there and cried. We hugged and I told her I loved her sooo much! I wanted to help so bad!! I’m in Indiana so I can’t. I couldn’t even give blood because I have anemia from Lupus. So all that we could do was sit and cry while praying. We watched those people jumping and that nearly killed me. They had to make the decision to burn to death or jump. And you are right we were so United! The world now to me is horrible. I hope to God it changes.

No-one will ever forget where we were on that horrific day 😔 I was at home here in London, England and was on my sofa watching some show on BBC1 when it was cut for a breaking story. At that time everyone thought it was a tragic accident. I called my Mum to tell her to put the TV on. She said instantly "that's no accident" and just as I was about to disagree with her, the second plane hit. I just screamed and sat staring at the screen and then the Pentagon and finally Pennsylvania. I then had to collect my son from school and by the time I got home, the first tower fell. What stayed with me other than what happened was the silence in the skies over London. I knew that the world had changed again 🥺

I was folding laundry while my kids ate breakfast. I was watching the today show. My first thought was shock, fear, sadness. As the day progressed, I became angry that my children's lives would never be free of precautions or scrutiny. The security of our homeland was not something they would take for granted. I felt like their innocence and trusting nature's would change. The next days of being so united was an amazing opportunity to teach my kids that good is in the world and if we look we can see it.

I worked for a mail order company in the shipping dept, there was always a radio on. We heard that a plane had hit the tower, at first my co workers and i were thinking it was an awful accident. Then we kept listening, and then the second plane hit, then we all knew it was no accident. We all stayed and worked all day, but it was very quite except fpr the radio, everyone was just listening. When work was over i hurried home to turn on the tv, i was horrified at what i saw. I kept thinking this can not happen in America, but it did. i stayed up most of the night watching the horror, i finally tried to go to sleep, that did not happen. My heart was hurting for all those that died, and more for the familes and children left behind..I agree with you,for the day after and a few weeks following, We were the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, i pray that unity returns someday soon, and not have to have a tragic event to have it happen. Thank you for your service.

I was walking across the lot at work with a coworker when the foreman drove up and told us about it. I wasn’t able to see any news until that evening at home. It took my back to 1979 when the Iranians over ran the US embassy in Teheran and took 44 Americans hostage. I had joined the Navy and just graduated from service school awaiting orders to my first squadron. Anger was my emotion, it was practically everyone’s emotion. Today I live in a very small farming town in west Texas, the next day was the first day that a flight of two F-16s from an Air Force base in New Mexico flew over head on patrol. They were a daily reminder for the next few weeks that our world had forever changed.

Thank you for your reaction, your service and your emotion. My husband and I were leaving on vacation, traveling from Oregon to Wyoming. First stop was the place where our travel trailer was manufactured for some repairs. We had to be there the next morning and it was hours away. A friend called and said to turn on the tv... when I asked what channel he told me it didn't matter. We saw that second plane hit the tower and could hardly drag ourselves away from the tv... but we needed to go. It was the scariest trip we've ever been on, and we live on the west coast! No planes in the air, LOTS of flags on every car and rv on the interstate, tanks guarding military installations, and one night in Wyoming we heard automatic rifle fire as the national guard practiced. We could get no new information at all. We ended up coming home early, just to be somewhere relatively 'safe'. I know we'll never forget. This song still brings tears, 20 years later

It was this day that I learned what real love was. I was 18, my brother was 15. My Mom was a district manager for a large petroleum company and she was based in Illinois. Panic and fear was everywhere. She called us to come directly to the station because she wanted us near, And we got to see her in action. The govt. did not know what all that was going to happen. She had to coordinate fuel deliveries and protection for those drivers. While doing that, she stayed in one of her stores while on the phone with her other stores. Calming their fears, making sure they were not in danger. Calming customer fears to keep from any panic backlash happening. I saw real love in action...and respect that she had for everyone and their feelings, while keeping us close to protect. She became a hero in my eyes that day.

I was in science class in middle school in Brooklyn when our teacher asked us who knew someone who worked at the World Trade Center. Me and a few others raised our hands - my father worked there (on the floor that was first hit) - and then the teacher went about the lesson. At my next class, dance class, someone came in and said my mom was there to pick me up. She had already got my brother from elementary school. She told us what happened, that she had talked to our dad after first tower fell but hadn't been able to reach him since. On the bus ride home I could see the black smoke coming from Manhattan... My best friend and I talked on the bench on our street as we waited for news, and I remember a firefighter coming up to us to talk. Couple hours later, my dad came home having walked all the way from the city (unfortunately my best friend's uncle and most of my dad's coworkers didn't make it)... It is a day I'll never forget, and should never be forgotten...

I was driving on a narrow southern California mountain road, taking my 3 elementary school children to school when the radio announced the first hit. I assumed it was a terrible accident and was explaining to my kids that I was worried about those on the plane and what could have gone wrong when the radio announced the 2nd hit and I pulled off the road and screamed "IT WAS DELIBERATE" and started to angrily explain to my kids about terrorism. I dropped them at school and went to work, cursing and hyper ventilating as I had never been so angry in my life. I was one of the first to get the bumper sticker, "NEVER FORGET, NEVER FORGIVE". I bought every documentary and movie about 9-11 and watch them frequently.

My dad was actually in the air on his way to NYC (from Houston, where we lived) - he actually had a meeting later that afternoon at the World Trade Centre - and had been grounded in Atlanta. He called and only said, "I can't talk long, I'm fine, in Atlanta, but you need to turn on the tv *right now*. I love you girls and I'll call again when I can. If Larry doesn't get through to Renew, please go tell her the same, we're here together." And that's all we heard for almost 24 hours because phone lines were all full after that.
