Thank you so much my son came home one night and was unable to get the lock to turn hes 16 years old. He got frustrated and he stood kicking the door I was home so now we're trying to take it out and I could not figure out what was going on. It was the little tiny hole behind the dead bolt that I was missing. Thank you you are a lifesaver

Ha, this is like a cross between a Medeco deadbolt and a commercial leverset(As the former has a thumbturn which is secured by an allen screw, and the latter’s rose attaches in the exact same manner). As always, stellar tutorial Kilo!Keep ‘em coming!

Many brands and models use this is some fashion. Some have 2 screws on the thumb turn itself, A lot of Smart Lock deadbolts are like this and confuses people. I show up to homes with the thumb piece removed a lot of times like the one in the video and the customer doesn't know how to remove the plate. I guess I could make a series on just different models with hidden screws lol

I will not lie... if you ask the majority of Locksmith's they will tell you Kwikset haha The reason is Locksmith's know the stats and how to target harden their property, so there is a higher probability of them having to pick their own lock in a Lockout situation than someone breaking in. Almost every Locksmith I have worked alongside has had Kwikset/Defiants haha Bump Keys and Lock Picks are mainly used by Locksmiths or Hobbyists and thieves and burglars see all locks the same, they don't know how to identify keyways and honestly you could set a Defiant next to a Protec 2 and they wouldn't know the difference. To answer your question the best I can I would recommend Schlage for your Locksets as unlike Kwikset, Schlage is known for their Anti-Drill features as well as a tougher keyway for a novice to pick. But, you have to keep in mind that most burglars kick the door in, so even if you choose an Abloy Protec 2 you will need to install a high-security strike plate with 2 inch screws. The door hardware always comes with those tiny screws to mount the strike plates and that means that your security is flawed as one kick will tear the frame apart. You want to use 2 inch screws preferably as they will sink into the actual frame of the home and not just the door trim which is soft and weak. High-Security Strike plates usually allow 4-8 screws to be used to help against kick-in attacks. People always overlook the strikes when they purchase their locksets lol Just remember... the tougher the lock you install on your door, the more expensive it will be if you lock yourself out and need a Locksmith lol I have a video on Target Hardening, but you can research it as well for a more in depth look at many ways to deter thieves and as long as you have at least 4-5 of the steps in place you will normally deter probably 90% of opportunistic thieves. Add in a wireless alarm system with signage and you'll deter 99% lol

28 years in Law Enforcement here. I can't remember a single time a break in was by picking the lock open. 99.99% a swift kick to the front, back or side door and they're in. To a lessor extent I've seen ones where a small glass window next to the lock was broken and unlocked. Others are pried open. So as Kilo said target hardening is your best option.

Good info however mine was slightly different. Mine had an allen screw for the turn knob, but didn't have the second allen to remove the cover. All I had to do is pop it off at the bottom like you showed. This was also a Kwikset deadbolt.

I've lived in my house for 12 years. The deadbolt keyhole has always been upside down. Your video on how to flip it, led me to this video since my Kwikset is the "screwless" type. When I get home in about 4-5 hours, I'm going to finally flip the keyhole, and actually lock and unlock my front door the correct way. Thank you so much for making your videos.

Hi, how to prevent the deadbolt knob from turning if the burglar breaks the entry door glass and stick his arm inside and physically turn the knob? Is there an knob lock without changing the multi point lock set?

  • @gantz4u

Change it to a double keyed dead bolt. You just discovered how 90% of people are going to defeat your "burgle invite sign" erm, I mean "security"..Also why do rich ppl make it so easy? you obviously got good stuff in there if you got glass that lets my hands into your entry way.
