Not _ALL_ of them...80's Pop from the US was mostly about striving for personal betterment against the 'world', hence why Rock and Mo' Town were more en vogue and so much Pop centered around the same handful of individuals. The early 90's wasn't any different or better.

Top favorite type of music. 80s and 90s music will also make me feel nostalgic even if I've never heard a certain song. I almost hate modern music that's not from Japan, a great cartoon or anime soundtrack, or video game music. Aside from that, old music is what my childhood was made of thanks to my Grandpa. It's all his fault. But I'm grateful. And happy that this is the music that makes me feel things. And not Cardi B blasting on loud speakers singing about stuff I never wanted to hear or needed to. No matter how old are you, what race you are, and what lifestyle you have, 80s Japanese Pop will always be one of the greatest music genre and you cannot deny that.

As a 20-year-old Russian girl, I remember walking in Shinjuku Gyoen with my friends after classes. And in the evenings this music was played. Thank you for giving me warm memories of experiences that I never had.

I'm born and living in another country, But since my childhood is filled Japanese stuffs more than my own country eventhough my country has it's own great songs and movies, still I feel attached to Japanese stuffs and I'm proud to be Japanese eventhough I'm not born there. i don't think its specifically that... im 41... i listen to a lot of different music and love 80s music in general... but japanese city pop is just different, aside from a few songs from america/england of the 80s , most of the song are just good song, doen't give feelings of nostalgia.. frikking City pop japanese give it almost all the time , no idea why tho. If it was social media problem, i would feel the same with all old songs.. but only japanese one give this feeling.

Flyday Chinatown reminds me of a childhood I've never had. Always feels like Sailormoon, warm summer nights of pastel color sky. Big city full of people going just walking like in Vacation, full of lights, like a city that doesn't sleeps. Truly curious and yet so warm feel.

I am Japanese. I didn't know why 80s City Pop playlists were recommended now, but when I heard them for the first time in a while, I found out that they were wonderful and loved by people from many countries.

I need to he fluent in Japanese first, that's the only rule I set for myself before I start helping my mom save up. I'm still young so it's best to start now then later down the road. But once I get there, ear buds go in, volume goes on low, and I walk around Tokyo, taking in the sights while my mom and uncle are by my side, helping and guiding me through the streets.

Truly nothing like the creativity of 80's in the whole world, but especially Japan. Booming economy, bold manga and anime, because everyone was willing to take risks as you could easily bounce back. I am crying for a time I wasn't even born in.

it makes me sad to know that some of the singers are dead...

tbh japanese city pop gives me vibe and also memory that i haven't experience yet but it feels like I've been there... ugh, yall getting what i mean right?

Fun fact that nobody asked for but I’m gonna share anyway: Whenever I need to study or focus on my school work, I turn on Japanese city pop and since I don’t understand the lyrics I can focus on my work but also listen to the beautiful singing by the artists. I’m so glad and honestly grateful that I discovered Japanese city pop last summer because it has helped me a lot.

I don't think anyone quite understand how these japanese City Pop songs feel like audible drugs to me. They make me feel so good and sometimes I have to dance or sing to it, all the while having nostalgia about the 80s, which is an era I never experienced. Not to mention how I cannot get enough of this genre. I have been listening to these songs over and over ever since that Plastic Love video blew up many years ago. It's just insane to me how good these songs are, and I can only wish the musicians that created them so many years ago got all the praise they deserved for their amazing work.

Although ive never been to Japan, or live in 80's in japan, but i really really love 80's pop city music 😂😂😂 Heard these songs make me feel better , thanks for compiling this song

As a 30 year old Danish man who has never left Europe, these tracks truly bring back the memories of being a young man in the streets of Tokyo in the 80's, drinking and hanging with my friends until early morning.

I actually used to listen to 80s city pop back in middle school because i wanted to learn Japanese and one day live there. Been years since ive heard these songs. Still makes me feel like im waking through the city in the 80s as someone born in 2002 🥲

As a 16 year old russian, I can attest that this brings back memories of walking down the streets of Niigata 35 years ago with my soon-to-be wife. Ahh the time flies...

as a 11 year old american girl, this brings back memories of back in the 80’s when i would drive down the streets of osaka late at night with my friends and lover Kaori Yamaha while singing and laughing, good times.

When I'm going for a long hour drive out of town, I played this and let me tell you......the driving experience was totally different. I feel like driving towards the 80s sunset scene. It's sooooo good, it gave me the unexplained melancholy and nostalgic feels

my depression didnt leave... it stayed and vibed to the music with me

I grew up with my grandpa playing 80's anime, so i grew up listening to the 80's anime openings, so this is really familiar and pleasant to hear

As a wedded 28 years old guy who doesn't even have a passport - this song reminded me of my first date with my wife when I asked her out in Highschool back in the 80s. I remember the night lights in the streets of Tokyo, Japan. Such good memories.

If you go to Japan, leave the hotel at 3 AM and take a walk with this on. You won't forget it. I had a smiliar playlist to this on my Spotify on my trip in 2019 and I felt like I was floating.

I saved up for two years so I could go to Japan for a month in 2020. Obviously that did not work out. At all. And now I have to focus on my education, blah, blah, blah, and won't be able to go even when Japan eventually allows tourists again... :(

Maybe many people don't know "city pop" is not only a music genre...it was the portrayal of an era through music. It represented the Japan of the 80s, the Japan that gracefully rode the wave of prosperity, a perfect breeding ground not only for thinking about the future...but even not needing to for because its present was already perfect. The Japan where young office workers had exorbitant salaries and young couples were able to buy big houses, a cosmopolitan bubble-life where young salarymen and male and female students had a bright future, where everyone wanted to live. "City pop" talked about the joy of life and nightlife, love, happiness, an endless paradise that had to be enjoyed very fast and very lively, before the decade finishes and 90s come.

Japanese music ages really nicely. They respect classic jazz and rock way more than we Americans do. Modern J-pop still sounds like early 2000s rock and captures that awesome nostalgic sound. Hopefully it stays that way.

I started by listening to anisongs, but then I found lots of non-anime bands that I truly enjoy. And I've also noticed their high quality of music compared to most other countries. I love it that even in Pop songs they always find ways to blend in actual instruments like guitars or jazzy instruments like the trumpet. That's why for this music get more and more nostalgic the older I get.
