This is the reason Japanese '80s pop was so rich in sound. It's borrowed heavily from Foundational Afro-Centric American music just sung in Japanese. African American and Japanese people share a rich history of nearly two hundred years of transnational engagement and activity. African American writers discussed Japan as early as 1828, and, in the African American and abolitionist press, the 1860 Japanese Embassy to the United States inspired a perception of transnational solidarity between African American and Japanese people based on the shared experience of racial prejudice and the right of all men to participate in the affairs of the world. From the 16th century to the early 19th century, Japanese ideas surrounding Blackness were very different from the racial ideologies prevalent in Europe and later the United States. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, many Japanese intellectuals were inspired by the African American struggle for civil rights, as well as their transnational engagement with African American people, to promote anti-imperialism within Japan. Meanwhile, in the 1930s, pro-Japanese organizations proliferated across the United States and influenced tens of thousands of African American people. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor ended much, but not all, African American sympathy for Japan. The FBI was concerned that Japanese military agents would racially agitate African American people into subversive activity.

Wonderful playlist thanks so much for making it I can't believe I didn't know what a vibe 80s Japanese pop is. And the pictures are just stunning giving me vaporwave vibes.
Thank you for including the club mix of Stay with me specifically, the one with the piano solo at the end, best version out there.
Amazing! I really like City pop too! I enjoyed watching it until the end. Thank you for sharing. I hope you have a happy day, my friend
I've seen pictures of Anri on Japanese magazines in the '80s, but didn't know she had so many hit songs. (now I know)

It's Black American music sung in Japanese. Like most trending songs today but it is nice. I grew up with these songs being played continuously by my ancestors. Do you attribute a book to the translator or the original author?
i had this playlist playing in the back during my drive last summer when i was heading up to visit my friends in the poconos. had my windows down and the weather was great - it was such a good vibe. that was such a good day - it’s currently TOO cold and listening to this right now has me longing for warm weather and good vibes
The great thing with not being able to understand Nihongo is that I can listen to the 80s vibe WITH vocals, but not get distracted from my work by the lyrics. When I listen to English songs, I sometimes end up singing instead of working. lol
I absolutely rate this
Man, the bass on Airport Lady - Toshiki Kadomatsu! Love it!🤟
I am unable to go to next song because I got hooked up with first song itself . Thanks for this wonderful music compilation!!
this is a mood relief after a rough day..

I wasn't born in the 80s, but the images and music make me feel very nostalgic and see that there were many artistic masterpieces back then 💗💗💗
Mariya Takeuchi slaying with another banger! Love it, just as iconic as Plastic love!
Afro-American pop, rock, jazz, and R&B with a touch of disco sung in Japanese in the 1980s. Nice. I recognize some of the songs being sung although they are sung in a different language. Some songs are actually from the 1970s. So many sacrifices and much suffering was endured to share their music so it's a blessing to know many around the world enjoyed it so much as well.

“With a touch” this is pure Japanese 😂😂😂😂 the influence is small and mostly American what you’re talking about and no r&b here what the hell? No one is listening to this thinking “AFRICAN-American pop” . Get educated.

@@simplyphenomenal695 You are the foolish one who desires to remain the fool. Just because you wish it were so does not make it true. Portions of Afro-Centric American songs were included here. Ask Robin Thicke how it's done from generation to generation. It took a judge to drag out his truth unfortunately many old school artist did not have the funds to fight their cases like Marvin Gaye's family. Do not attempt to argue a point on a topic that is foreign to you. Go Get Educated,. By the way, the Japanese also used to style their hair to resemble Afros..

@@simplyphenomenal695 Nothing about this music is Japanese. It's literally Black American Funk, Jazz, Disco, RNB etc sung in the Japanese language. This isn't a music genre, just a Japanese imitation. To claim that this is a new genre that Japanese people invented is delusional. Every song in this video is a clear imitation.
