well, as they have stated, it's really production costs. The longer you film, the more you pay for overall production. That said, time can also be shortened if you put in more work. We've seen how much more work low team need to do, but we DON'T see if Low team had to get more people to help which might be the case.

So to be honest, IF you place value on your TIME, DIY projects can be time intensive and therefore VERY expensive. They were works of art.

@@lolsurprises9989 It really does depend on a person, very case by case. For me I pretty much fab everything. I find out quite often what I make is superior to what is bought/available but very focused on a specific application. While manufactured products are made to try and cover everyone's needs in the same product which doesn't always work, but that's just the nature of manufactured products and trying to make as many people as possible happy. Despite the the skill and experience I feel that I am very "cost effective" in labour. Some people think they are so valuable in time that they try to justify a very high rate and/or would put off work based on that alone. Honestly in my opinion only, I think people are only worth maybe a quarter of what they say realistically. From my perspective usually that stems from a big ego, or a large chip on their shoulder. Anyway that's what I think. With that said, with people in the "I think I can't do that" catagory, they can. And the great thing about us is the ability to want to learn. Building your own stuff is the best teaching/experience tool you can use. My favourite saying goes: How do you build a cage? -Best way is to start fukin up some tubes!

This is true, but ARB is pre-fabbed in warehouses, coastal off-road is typically only a few days to ship since no true fabrication goes into it. 4x innovations I’m sure took a while, and it would’ve been nice to see low truck in completion. That being said, a few days at the minimum probably could’ve gotten everything done. They should do an episode 3.5 or something of that

Of course money becomes an issue with both, but ya really can save a boatload of dollars if you're able to do it yourself, as long as you have the tools, time & material. Plus their's more satisfaction in your work when you're fabricating & installing yourself. Hopefully some day soon more project comes together & works great.

Low team gets all the credit at the trail. High truck most people would look at and assume daddies money bought it. They are the ones that call for a tow when stuck or something broke. You look at low truck and know that if they break something or get stuck, they probably have the skills to get home under their own power. Hand fab and built with the cheaper parts is literally what going off road is about. You know stuff is going to break, and need fixing. Why spend thousands more than necessary on the same parts. Everyone has to learn, I’d rather see ppl have crap welds and keep at it rather than just polish a turd. Grind it out and keep welding til you have a nice weld. Grind and paint after that where needed such as ur case

@@Rusty90 Eh, hobbyists don't really need to go through all that. If its a project that requires welding and they maybe pull that welder out once a year, "polishing a turd" is just part of the mix. They don't need, or likely even have the ability to weld hundreds of projects to get the kind of skillset expected of someone doing this professionally for work 🤷🏽‍♂️

When we were in high school in the 70 's a friend put a 57 Chevy truck body on a blazer . The front bumper was gone so he made one out of a railroad tie ! He carved it perfectly with chainsaw, sanded and painted it, we would knock down small tree's on off trail excursions no problem

It would be great if you did a similar series where both teams had a identical budget and a set task, then spend the money based on each teams preferences so they both have the same $$ into them but in different areas based on your preferences and experience from these two seasons

I can honestly say that I am totally impressed with the custom work. While I agree the choices made were much cheaper -- the $800 vs $4000 -- the cost of all the custom work wasn't clear. (did I miss that in the video?) Two questions I think most of us in the "real world" might have, or at least I have... 1. What would that labor typically cost someone who didn't have connections and friends? 2. What's the difference in added weight between the custom work and the expensive stuff?
