80's Commercials Vol. 3

Ойын-сауық

A bunch of commercials that aired on ABC on May 15th, 1988.
1. Diet Pepsi (Featuring Teri Garr)
2. Burger King
3. Hillshire Farm Wieners (Heh...)
4. TJ Maxx (I love this jingle!)
5. EPCOT Center at Walt Disney World (Looks awesome)
6. Jeep/Eagle
7. Canada Tourism (I didn't know Canada was in freakin' Asia)
8. Contadina Pasta
9. Lucky Grocery Store
10. Theragran-M from Squibb (Sounds Delicious!)
11. Pepsi Commercial (A young Siskel and Ebert no doubt.)
12. Foot Locker (Check it out, Check it out!)
13. Shell Gasoline (However impossible this was in the 80's, imagine it today. Yikes.)
14. Century 21 Realty (Love the fashion on the Realtors. I wish that earth-tones would come back in style)
15. Dimetapp
16. Imperial Margarine
17. Jaguar (The definition of pretentious 80's consumerism...)
18. Channel 7 San Francisco News Promo (Nothing psyches me for the news like a "terrible freak accident", a race marred with tragedy and gang violence!)
19. Wells Fargo Bank
20. Foster Farms Chicken
21. Magic 61 AM Radio (Featuring Tony Bennett! Nice Shatner Toupee, Tony!)

I remember when I was a kid in the 80's, I used to watch TV just for the commercials sometimes. They're so... positive and entertaining, like they were made by real people instead of focus groups and committees. I still think the 1980's were the peak of our civilization.

There was such a innocence back then makes me wonder where that went to . Makes me miss the 80s even more .

***** That's quite a leap to speak for all youngsters. Even my teenage stepson listens to 1190. You try to assume that young people don't listen to talk radio yet listen to podcasts only? People listen to AM because it's on every radio and it's free....like how so many still use IE because it's a free default browser in Windows.

Imagine living in a society where people ate caviar every night, used gold leaf tissues, etc, and never even thought anything of it. When you look at how beautiful even commercials used to be, it's kind of like that. Everything was shot on film and it was beautiful. Now watch our newer digitally-shot commercials, which look so dead and cheap. Look up the new Ford "Swap Your Ride" ads and realize we used to live in that "caviar" world where even the lowliest of media was like looking at heaven.

First of all, thank you to 80sCommercialVault. I can't believe that watching commercials can be so addicting, but boy, do they bring me back to a simpler time. Also, it freaks me out that there are kids old enough to wish they lived when I was a kid. I used to think the same thing about the 60s, when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s. Now, I would kill to go back to the 80s. I didn't know how good we had it back then.

@pannoni1 The concept for EPCOT was designed by Walt Disney in 1965, heavily influenced by what he saw at the 1964 New York World's Fair. The final product was very different (And unfortunately less ambitious) but I'd argue that the actual ideas behind EPCOT are more a product of the 60's than the 80's.

I was a child in the 80's. Apparently the interest rates were outrageous in the 80's. Interest rates are rock bottom now compared to the 80's. Now you can get a Mortgage at 3-5% interest. In the 80s even people with great credit could get 8-9% at best.

@fubukifangirl Many VHS tapes recorded from this period have a distinct yellow cast and muted colors. This is a product of the VHS format and is not indicative of the original video quality. I've found from experience that Betamax had much better color reproduction than VHS. This is also one of the first commercial compilations I posted, and is basically a direct transfer from the VCR with no color-correction applied.

Cell phones, internet access, vehicle airbags, email, mp3 players, CDs, DVDs, etc. were not around just yet, however, they did come around during the 90s. I was born in 1980, and pretty much remember how things were like back in that era.
