80's Commercials Vol. 4
Ойын-сауық
A bunch of commercials that aired on ABC on October 26th, 1986 and NBC in March of 1987.
1. Swanson Great Starts Frozen Breakfast Sandwiches
2. Johnson & Johnson Shampoo (I love the look of indignation at 0:55)
3. Lysol Air Freshener (I feel sorry for the dog that's scared out of frame!)
4. Children's Panadol (Because I'm a children!)
5. Lysol Cleaner
6. Hot Pockets (Partial)
7. Promo for "The Brat Patrol" (With Sean Astin!) and "Easy Prey" (Looks pretty intense...yikes)
8. Commercial for PG&E (This is pretty neat and informative actually. Reminds me of Main Street at Disneyland)
9. Lucky Supermarket
10. Pillsbury Bundt Pineapple Creme Cake (She sure loves that Cake...)
11. Pepsi (Reminds me of "Ghostbusters")
12. Best Foods Light Mayonnaise (Eating a big glob of mayonnaise on bread...? Yuck!)
13. New Coke (with Max Headroom! This particular commercial looks like the inspiration for the Cafe 80's in "Back To The Future Part II")
14. Free Consumer Information Catalog (Hilarious!)
15. Message from Ann Kahn from the PTA about children and television (I spent my entire childhood watching TV and look how I turned out! Maybe she has a point)
16. National Guard PSA (One of the coolest commercials I've ever seen. Go Teddy Roosevelt! Troops, Chaaaarge!!!)
17. Teen Pregnancy PSA (Oh no, pixelated baby! I never saw that Game Over screen!)
18. Slice (Hilariously Awesome! With Ozzie Smith plus other real baseball players)
19. Michelob Light (Featuring "To Live and Die in L.A." by Wang Chung. Manages to summarize the excess of the 80's in under a minute. Also: looks like the opening credits to some cop drama)

First commercial immortalized, thanks to Gorillaz with "Superfast Jellyfish"! You see what happens when we upload old & once memorable, but forgotten commercials onto KZread?!
Weird as it may sound, these help me sleep at night...brings me back to the 80s, where all was happy and simple. I miss those days. So thanks for the good nights sleep.
the eighties... the best times of my life! everything was new and fresh. now all is old and stale.
Because I'm a children! lol
ok I love how the anti television commercial was aired on TELEVISION
Microwave minutes? I didn't know microwaves were manipulators of time.
Wait, Hot Pockets had a lattice pattern on the crust? That's awesome!
"Parental discretion is advised" classic line that told young children to watch that one.
Because I'm a children.
superfast jellyfish - one of the best on the new one, the others being melancholy hill, glitter freeze, stylo & plastic beach. Immense. Thank You soo much!!!!!
Daredevil 1980s. Tiger women with power in their eyes, neat-looking men full of hope, and everyone is fit. Electrifying and psychodelic TV ads. What an epoch!
That Max Headroom ad influenced the famous tv hijacking

Max Headroom had a movie & a TV series.

+Jill Sandwich I know, but the ad with coca and all inspired all the lines in the hijacking like "catch the wave" for example
Thank you so much for putting these together! Such great memories. Yes, I watched a lot of TV as a child. :)
hahahaha WE GOT THE JUICE! If only Jose Canseco did that slice commercail now that would have been some unintentional humor.
I used to drink Apple Slice by the bucket loads circa 1986-1987. I remember that gold can...damn, I haven't thought about that drink for just about 25 years.
ballroom dancing and a bundt cake....only in the 80's.
"You're growing up, and so is your hair!" "*uninterested sigh*"
Yeah, in some ways I'm kind of sad that this will most likely overtake all of my other videos shortly, but whatever. More viewers/fans is always good. Thanks Gorillaz!
Im 36 and a TV fiend. I only remember like 5 of these commercials
aw, the little boy from the shampoo commercial was so cute ^^
whew these commercials aired months before i was even born......yet somehow they feel familiar, like a long lost memory
Wow! A television commercial telling us not to watch television! We won't be seeing that again!
"cause I'm a children." LOL too cute!
lmao superfast jellyfish FTW!! if it werent for that song i never wouldve saw this. thank u, wikipedia :D
that michelob commercial is the best commercial ive ever seen
Thank You for sharing all of these 80's commercials. These commercials make you laugh, they make you cry and they remind of what it was like to be a child of the 80's. Thanks :)
Man, that was great! Thank you! And I loved the Wang Chung Michelob commercial at the end, I totally remember it!
I miss Slice. I loved the apple and orange flavors.

I remember that when Slice first came out, it actually contained fruit juice for a while.
Love these commercials. The first one had me in stitches with the fast forward stuff lol. Anyway, thanks very much for uploading these!
LOL the breakfast sandwiches "microwaves in 3 minz" now its like "20 sec" :P
That Michelob commercial made me want to only drink Michelob for the rest of my life
The Brat Patrol pairing with Easy Prey is exactly the type of commercials they were parodying on that one Family Guy episode where Peter's watching the CM for a lighthearted Night Court episode, then a serious episode of LA Law. ^_^ For kids who watch that show and weren't alive back in the 80s, YES, they did that kind of thing! LOL! ^_^
Once again, great job, thanks for the trip back in time. On to vol. 5....
The coke commercial was freaky lol These commercias are hilarious...
The narrator for the first Lysol commercial also did Smucker's commercials. And young Sean Astin. So cool.
Lol loving these! Pepsi where amazing at ads!
Look, just because some British guy is older than me doesn't mean this isn't where he was exposed to the commercial. How would a group composed of Brits even be exposed to an 80's American TV commercial in the first place? AFIAK, I'm the first (and only) person who's even posted this specific ad on the internet. I've actually compared the audio waveforms between this video and the sample used in the song. Aside from some added reverb and noise reduction, they're the exact same.
The views don't seem to have ballooned as much as I thought they would, but maybe this is just the beginning. I am slightly disappointed they didn't give me an album credit, as I'm 99% positive that this video is not only how they were exposed to the Swanson commercial, but where they got the audio from as well.
The vocalist in the Pillsbury commercial is none other than the infamous PHOEBE SNOW!!!!!

@@80sCommercialVault If you were referring to me, I know what it means. Infamous means you're well known for something bad or scandalous. By the way, I love the 80's commercials I've seen so far.

I didn't mean you, I meant the person in the post you responded to who used it. There's nothing in her bio that suggests "infamy".
#17 is the best. They should still air this commercial. :D
In early 2006, Pepsi resurrected the Slice name for a new line of diet soda called Slice ONE. Marketed exclusively at Wal-Mart stores
Aspirin-free, alcohol-free, sugar-free but packed full of the pain-destroying morphine your child will love.
In the Slice commercial, #33 (Houston) is Mike Scott. I think #4 (New York) is Len Dykstra. Also great to see Apple Slice, I loved it but no one seems to remember it.
Wow, the first one was used in Superfast Jellyfish! :D
the E-Z checkouts at Lucky's must've been the early versions of U-scans.
Amazing how some of these commercials still retain a scrap of selling power. I suddenly crave a Michelob...
good god i've never had a can of it but Slice looks delicious. soft drink ads these days always have to be douchey and urban.
hehe "cause I'm a children" :D awww precious!
It was 5 days from my 5th birthday when this aired. Oh how I miss those days. :( the innocence
@SouthOCmixdown Then you'll be happy to know his TV series (the sci-fi one from 1987) is finally being released in August on DVD!
2:19 BRAT PATROL! That kid is SAM from Lord of the Rings!! haha. He still looks the same!
I think Best Foods Mayonaise (#12) was a forerunner of Hellmans Mayonaise-anybody remember THAT commercial jingle? "Bring out the Hellmans and bring out the Best!"-and I can't help but notice the slogan in the Best Foods commercial is awfully similiar...

Nope, Hellmann's has been owned by Best Foods since the 30's but they kept the Hellmann's brand name east of the Rocky Mountains. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellmann%27s_and_Best_Foods

@@80sCommercialVault I could tell as soon as I saw the "Best Foods" brand that this montage aired on a station in the West. Here in the Midwest where I live, it is branded as Hellmann's, and the fine print on the jar says "Known as Best Foods Mayonnaise west of the Rockies."
WOW, they must have taken it from my video. That's awesome!
Breakfast sausage in America is ground meat (pork & beef) with a lot of seasoning, and comes in small rolls or patties. It's very different from your typical Brautworst or the kind of sausage eaten for breakfast in the UK...and also much tastier.
6:33 I think that's Mrs. Doubtfire.
LOL, when its says 'are you kidding' i half expected superfast jellyfish by gorillaz to start playing :)
wow Hot Pockets looked so much bigger than they are now... kinda like Moon Pies too...
For years I remembered the music in that Michelob commercial until I discovered around 2004 that it was an actual song by Wang Chung when I rented the movie "To Live and Die in L.A." Someone else (maybe it was you) had this commercial up a few years ago; thanks for putting it back up.
slice, squirt, sprite. it sounds like a painful injury, yet they are all delightful citrusy sodas!
Gorillaz brought me here, but i love ads like these, so I'm going to watch all your videos. Keep your head up!
I didn't know Hot Pockets existed back then.
Those hot pockets are huge!!! (compared to todays...)
8:13 I wanna watch the movie To Live and Die in L.A. now.
Michelob practically advertises with a music video there. They just don't make commercials like they used to... /sigh
In case nobody else did, I thought I'd point out that the son in the Hot Pockets commercial appears to be Noah Hathaway, better known as Atreyu from the Neverending Story.
Wow, Great Starts! I so remember those yellow boxes. I don't think they still make these...bought by Aunt Jemima maybe? Anyway, how can you call something microwaved "homecooked" and how can you call frozen eggs "fresh"? A bit of a stretch. Oh, hang on- gotta run. But I'll be back in 3 microwave minutes.
I'm not saying that they should be forced to credit me...it's just something that a nice person would do. Especially since I'm certain they grabbed the audio sample from this video specifically.
I see the coke and pepsi commercials but does anyone remember drinking Squirt!! now that was a great soda!
Superfast Superfast, I come in last, but just in time for breakfast!
If Ann Kahn did not like television... Then why was she on it?!
9:14 ZOMG LIGHT!!!!
best song at the new album ♥
lol i remember my mom made that pillsbury pineapple cake ...i recall it wasnt very appetizing lol
Good old Max Headroom.
"cause i'm a children" haha XD hes so cute!
The slice commercial looks so refreshing!!!
New Coke was re-branded as "Coke II" in the early 90's and sort of slowly became less and less available over the years until 2002, when it was discontinued entirely. It's still available in some some foreign markets. From what I've heard, Diet Coke is only slightly different in taste, and New Coke was based on its formula, so it is still available in a sense.
I have to confess i don't remember hotpockets out in the 80s we ate tv dinners like mid 90s my family cooked home cooked meals in those 80s i feel kinda dumb but i was a kid i didn't keep up with tv dinners i dont rmemeber the hotpocket comm either though!
Before self-check-outs, there was Lucky's.

It wasn't even about self-checkout, they are saying they are the first store to even accept debit cards as a payment method (aka an "ATM card").
I always loved the last commercial, the Michelob commercial with the "Live and Die in L.A." song in it from Wang Chung. "The Night Belongs to Michelob."
Superfast Jellyfish!! xD
hot pockets were invented in the 70s but began being sold in 1983.
"Because I'm a children" Does anyone else think that should be a meme? XD Didn't realize Hot Pockets existed in the late 80s :O Main Street at Disneyland is meant to represent that time period so that makes sense Ironic that New Coke was being pushed by a man that couldn't drink it. That kinda says something about it right there ;p
The PTA commercial with Ann Kahn DOES lok like Mrs. Doubtfire!!!
I miss the eighties, and I wasn't even born in the decade. :
Swanson - Great Starts Breakfasts (1986) is sampled in Gorillaz - Superfast Jellyfish (2010) Is it just me or does some of the quotes in the Shampoo and Panadol are in David After Dentist?
i hope im cool enough to drink michelob some day
it makes my floor wet - so it must disinfect as well!
I bet damon was watching this vid while making superfast jellyfish :D
Awesome Michelob commercial.I think it would still be effective today.
Wow. I had so forgotten about the Consumer Information Catalogs...
Max Headroom! I miss Diet Apple Slice.
@xxxbankrollzxxx Thanks man! The 80's were the best time to be a kid.
superfast jellyfish haha
Yes. They're probably better known for providing Northern California with it's electricity.
*sees first commercial* ...Wow, it really does exist. I thought it was just some made-up ad to get the message of the song across, but...it's real. Gorillaz win this day.
That Slice commercial made me want to drink only Slice for the rest of my life. Too bad they don't have it no more.

What I’m trying to say is that Lemon Lime Slice was just rebranded as Sierra Mist. When people say it’s gone from store shelves; it really isn’t.
The lady talking about how many hours in front of television BUZZ KILL
That Michelob Light commercial makes the 80s look awesome. It also looks like it was directed by Michael Bay.
1:26 "Children's DO learn."
