80's Commercials Vol. 4

Ойын-сауық

A bunch of commercials that aired on ABC on October 26th, 1986 and NBC in March of 1987.
1. Swanson Great Starts Frozen Breakfast Sandwiches
2. Johnson & Johnson Shampoo (I love the look of indignation at 0:55)
3. Lysol Air Freshener (I feel sorry for the dog that's scared out of frame!)
4. Children's Panadol (Because I'm a children!)
5. Lysol Cleaner
6. Hot Pockets (Partial)
7. Promo for "The Brat Patrol" (With Sean Astin!) and "Easy Prey" (Looks pretty intense...yikes)
8. Commercial for PG&E (This is pretty neat and informative actually. Reminds me of Main Street at Disneyland)
9. Lucky Supermarket
10. Pillsbury Bundt Pineapple Creme Cake (She sure loves that Cake...)
11. Pepsi (Reminds me of "Ghostbusters")
12. Best Foods Light Mayonnaise (Eating a big glob of mayonnaise on bread...? Yuck!)
13. New Coke (with Max Headroom! This particular commercial looks like the inspiration for the Cafe 80's in "Back To The Future Part II")
14. Free Consumer Information Catalog (Hilarious!)
15. Message from Ann Kahn from the PTA about children and television (I spent my entire childhood watching TV and look how I turned out! Maybe she has a point)
16. National Guard PSA (One of the coolest commercials I've ever seen. Go Teddy Roosevelt! Troops, Chaaaarge!!!)
17. Teen Pregnancy PSA (Oh no, pixelated baby! I never saw that Game Over screen!)
18. Slice (Hilariously Awesome! With Ozzie Smith plus other real baseball players)
19. Michelob Light (Featuring "To Live and Die in L.A." by Wang Chung. Manages to summarize the excess of the 80's in under a minute. Also: looks like the opening credits to some cop drama)

The Brat Patrol pairing with Easy Prey is exactly the type of commercials they were parodying on that one Family Guy episode where Peter's watching the CM for a lighthearted Night Court episode, then a serious episode of LA Law. ^_^ For kids who watch that show and weren't alive back in the 80s, YES, they did that kind of thing! Look, just because some British guy is older than me doesn't mean this isn't where he was exposed to the commercial. How would a group composed of Brits even be exposed to an 80's American TV commercial in the first place? AFIAK, I'm the first (and only) person who's even posted this specific ad on the internet. I've actually compared the audio waveforms between this video and the sample used in the song. Aside from some added reverb and noise reduction, they're the exact same.

  • @80sCommercialVault

The views don't seem to have ballooned as much as I thought they would, but maybe this is just the beginning. I am slightly disappointed they didn't give me an album credit, as I'm 99% positive that this video is not only how they were exposed to the Swanson commercial, but where they got the audio from as well.

New Coke was re-branded as "Coke II" in the early 90's and sort of slowly became less and less available over the years until 2002, when it was discontinued entirely. It's still available in some some foreign markets. From what I've heard, Diet Coke is only slightly different in taste, and New Coke was based on its formula, so it is still available in a sense.
