Would you please explain what you mentioned about not necessarily purchasing the refueling option when you are flying in and out of Shannon? That happens to be the airport. We are using, and we are not going to Dublin. Thank you.

Hi Mary. When I rent and return to Dublin Airport I purchase the refueling option as there is really only one petrol station near the airport - and it can be a nightmare to get into. Other stations I've used are far enough away that my rental was not considered 'full' and I was charged the refueling fee anyway. So I do it to avoid hassle - especially if I am catching a flight that morning! Shannon Airport is smaller, the area less congested, and has a few more nearby fueling options, so it is easier to refuel before dropping off. I hope that answers your question!

Good video. I'm most interested/concerned about (#6) rental car insurance. I'm in the U.S. and I might be guilty of thinking of car insurance like in the U.S. Watching this video, viewing many websites, no one mentions limits on the coverage. Maybe it's an option when reserving the car??? I'll probably buy Super CDW so my rental car is covered. Your website says "Limited" liability is included in the rental cost. How limited? Your website says it "assists" in paying the damages to another person's property. No one mentions medical coverage. Maybe that's because of national health care???? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Limited liability - this is limited to what it will cover. Each company may have different limitations. This assists in paying the damages caused to another person's property if you are at fault in an accident. Medical coverage is not included in auto policies. I recommend doing your homework on the coverage your credit card provides for travel (remember it must be the card you used to book your trip/ car rental for coverage to be effective!). Look for terms like Travel Accident Insurance, Travel Assistance, Roadside Assistance, etc. And then learn what is- and what is not- included in that coverage. You may find that it will cover the card holder and no one else, or that the coverage is minimal. I always purchase and recommend everyone consider purchasing travel insurance for an Ireland vacation. I hope that gives a bit of clarification.

Found your channel and vid on car rental, I can drive a stick and on the left side. I did not hear you mention any price difference/variance. What is your experience. Also we are going for a family wedding (mid week) staying at a lodge near the castle where wedding is taking place (apparently on an island) I understand when you say - don't rent the car if you are not going to drive it, but It may be easier to get it at our arriving air port and let it sit a few days than to have to go back to the air port to pick it up..Again any tips with this situation here?

Pricing can vary by car size and type, as well as season. I always recommend doing 'apples to apples' price comparisons and break that down more here in step 5: irelandfamilyvacations.com/car-rental-ireland/ireland-travel-tips/ If the castle is on an island I am making the assumption that it is Waterford Castle. Yes, having a car to get to Waterford will definitely be handy. Really the only time I caution against getting a car and letting it sit is if you are in Dublin - parking can be expensive and there are rental locations in the city. I hope that helps!

Can you please tell me if I book the car under my name using my credit card and add my husband as an additional driver, is that allowed? He may be doing more of the driving, but I just want to make sure that isn't a problem.

Yes, you can book the car in your name and add your husband as second driver. You can often add that when you make your reservation. Just be sure that you are there to pick up the car and that you have the credit card you made the booking on with you.
