When renting through Expedia they ask if you want the rental car insurance plan, $11 a day for collision protection, says 0 deductible/excess. Is this the same thing that you are recommending?? When I selected it I was brought to AIG Travel Guard car rental insurance policy and it is really confusing. I'm wondering if I should just cancel all of this and rent directly through Enterprise.
I never recommend booking through a 3rd party. I have also had instances of people telling me the insurance booked through 3rd party websites has not been accepted. If you prefer Enterprise I would book directly through them. Use Enterprise.ie, not .com so you can have the necessary insurance added. You might also use my preferred rental company, Irish Car Rentals - use this link for a 10% discount: irelandfamilyvacations.com/irishcarrentals - and purchase the SCDW insurance when booking.
These r super eating!! Luv it😊🎉❤. && Wonderful Iowa State Fair !!!😊
Thank you, this is helpful!
Wow, that's a very nice idea.
Thanks, Jody! Much appreciate your help!
Jody, it looks like you are on the Kilmainham Gaol MUSEUM website. Does the Kilmainham Gaol have its own website or are they one and the same? Please clarify. Thanks!
Great questions Gerrie! Kilmainham Gaol and Kilmainham Gaol Museum are the same place. Kilmainham, and a few of the larger fee based OPW sites, have their own websites that are connected to the main OPW website. You can manage your booking from either. If you use heritageireland.ie/ you can search for OPW sites by name in the search bar or by using the map feature. I hope that helps!
Wow!! I stayed an entire summer at this hostel back in 1987, and I loved it soooo much! An Aussie woman (Mandy, I think) was running the hostel part, young Anthony was still in school, maybe, sister Fiona gave me "Trinity" to read (I still have that book, Fiona, with your kind inscription) and brother Frank (who now owns Moloney House, I see) was running the dairy (26 cows that summer). I asked Paddy (dad) if I could milk a cow, and he said yes, much to Frank's annoyance. I just kept going back to help (mostly I just mucked out the stalls) every morning and early eve.... and ended up staying all summer because of this lovely, accepting, and generous family! One of the best summers of my now 60 years, and my heart warms to see the two brothers still there and continuing in the family business. Sending much love and gratitude... Allison Brown
wow! Thanks so much for sharing that! Doolin Hostel is (sadly) no more, but has become Doolin Inn. Anthony's vision has truly expanded the business - it's a completely different experience, but the welcome remains.
Great video discussion. We will traveling to Ulster in June and this was really helpful.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! If you haven't listened to episode 97 yet - with Jamese McCloy - I highly recommend giving it a listen! kzread.info/dash/bejne/ealo1LmDqduxeaQ.htmlsi=HRAC13dUx5O8Ck4Q
Hello mam Jody , I hope you're fine. I was analyzing your whole KZread channel and I found some technical problems which is I want to share to you. Please give me your contact information so that I can contact to you
Thank you for sharing your wi fi candy experience. Looking forward to my travels to Ireland!
I hope you found it helpful! Safe travels!
Tickets for everything and they all need to be booked in advance. This is making me lose interest in visiting in Ireland. It sounds like there’s no room for spontaneous adventure. It sounds like what I do at work: plan meetings and attend meetings.
Not everything needs to be booked in advance - but there are some things that are so popular that, if you want to visit and don't want to waste precious time waiting in a line, it is really the best idea to book those. You can also travel in the off-season to be more spontaneous.
I wish I was one in bowling Green Kentucky or Owensboro Kentucky
This is an amazing time to be alive where you are able to find useful and helpful information online at ease, thank you.
Do sone men still wear Tattersole vests?
Quite a few men wear vests to work - and they look quite dashing! But I've only seen Tattersall vests on people who work in the 'outdoor sports' arena - falconers, clay pigeon shooting, etc. I'm sure some people wear them - but I'm probably not posh enough to be around those people. :)
Leaving in a week for Ireland. This has been so helpful even though most of my trip is booked.
I'm so glad you found it helpful! Have a wonderful trip!
Yes, thrilled and relieved to have found you, and hope to join you in the future! 65yo former backpacker here. Already booked month long dream trip for April/May (3wk Ireland, 1wk Scotland). Wondering HOW the heck to book Ryanair / Aer Lingus from US? Argh, computer wont let me. 😆 Also, HOW to stay bedbug free esp. in hostels + the big one: Seating TIPS to stay 99% virus safe on multi long flights? (And yes, good insurance in place + no alcohol + trimming sugar + masking for starters). 😊
Hi Susan! I see that you took advantage of my free consult call. I look forward to speaking with you and answering your questions in person! I have never had a problem booking both AerLingus or RyanAir from the US so I'm afraid this may be a security issue set in your computer settings. Likely a fraud setting, so check your computer. We will chat about your other questions on the call. Looking forward to hearing about your trip!
Very helpful! Thank you!
You are welcome! So glad it was helpful for you!
Thrilled to have found you! I am planning to take my childhood babysitter to Ireland in late September 2024. Just her and me (age 68 and 55)! I took 2 pages of notes from just this video. She knows Ireland well as her mother was from Belfast and she visited often as a child, but she never drove there and she has given me the big thumbs up and is confident I can do it. And she’s right, but I’ll be learning as much as possible until then. You’ve given me such great info. Thank you!
I'm delighted that you found this helpful! It sounds like you have a very special trip planned. I have an entire series on my website to help you plan your trip step-by-step - including driving tips! I hope you'll check it out. Have a wonderful trip! irelandfamilyvacations.com/plan-your-ireland-vacation/
Just found your account as we’re planning our first family trip to Ireland in October 2024. Excited to check out all of your awesome resources!
Thrilled that you found me! I hope you find it all helpful as you plan your trip!
Found your channel and vid on car rental, I can drive a stick and on the left side. I did not hear you mention any price difference/variance. What is your experience. Also we are going for a family wedding (mid week) staying at a lodge near the castle where wedding is taking place (apparently on an island) I understand when you say - don't rent the car if you are not going to drive it, but It may be easier to get it at our arriving air port and let it sit a few days than to have to go back to the air port to pick it up..Again any tips with this situation here?
Pricing can vary by car size and type, as well as season. I always recommend doing 'apples to apples' price comparisons and break that down more here in step 5: irelandfamilyvacations.com/car-rental-ireland/ireland-travel-tips/ If the castle is on an island I am making the assumption that it is Waterford Castle. Yes, having a car to get to Waterford will definitely be handy. Really the only time I caution against getting a car and letting it sit is if you are in Dublin - parking can be expensive and there are rental locations in the city. I hope that helps!
Can you please tell me if I book the car under my name using my credit card and add my husband as an additional driver, is that allowed? He may be doing more of the driving, but I just want to make sure that isn't a problem.
Yes, you can book the car in your name and add your husband as second driver. You can often add that when you make your reservation. Just be sure that you are there to pick up the car and that you have the credit card you made the booking on with you.
Wow nice 😊
This is very helpful, thank you! Our family plans to travel to Ireland in June 2025 so hoping you’ll also do another one of these videos then, too. 😊
I plan to! If you're in the planning stages you might like this step-by-step planning guide: irelandfamilyvacations.com/plan-your-ireland-vacation/
Would you please explain what you mentioned about not necessarily purchasing the refueling option when you are flying in and out of Shannon? That happens to be the airport. We are using, and we are not going to Dublin. Thank you.
Hi Mary. When I rent and return to Dublin Airport I purchase the refueling option as there is really only one petrol station near the airport - and it can be a nightmare to get into. Other stations I've used are far enough away that my rental was not considered 'full' and I was charged the refueling fee anyway. So I do it to avoid hassle - especially if I am catching a flight that morning! Shannon Airport is smaller, the area less congested, and has a few more nearby fueling options, so it is easier to refuel before dropping off. I hope that answers your question!
I live around 20 minutes from it. They shut it down in 2019 because there was a rat infestation, Black mold in the pools, walls and floors. there was poor air quality. There was E-Coli Bacteria in the water as well as Streptococcus bacteria all in the pool. The hot tub also lacked cleaning.
Yes, It was definitely in need of updates when we visited years ago. A shame they let it get so bad.
Thank you! I just found a core memory
Does it snow a lot in January?
No, it doesn't. Snow is rare in Ireland, though you may find it at higher altitudes. We have had snow on one January visit that lasted about 24 hours.
❤❤❤
Very informative 👍
So glad you found it helpful!
Does the promo code still work?
Hello WIlliam. TO avail of the code please use this link: irelandfamilyvacations.com/ICR
Update: I used the link in May. Have no fear.
we had so much fun. Ricky and Peyton were awesome and took really good care of 2 old ladies and a bunch of 1st timers. we recommend them completely! haven't had that much fun in a long time😺
I live nearby $50 to do this kinda short tho
It was short for sure, but it has gotten longer since this video was made.
Good video. I'm most interested/concerned about (#6) rental car insurance. I'm in the U.S. and I might be guilty of thinking of car insurance like in the U.S. Watching this video, viewing many websites, no one mentions limits on the coverage. Maybe it's an option when reserving the car??? I'll probably buy Super CDW so my rental car is covered. Your website says "Limited" liability is included in the rental cost. How limited? Your website says it "assists" in paying the damages to another person's property. No one mentions medical coverage. Maybe that's because of national health care???? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Limited liability - this is limited to what it will cover. Each company may have different limitations. This assists in paying the damages caused to another person's property if you are at fault in an accident. Medical coverage is not included in auto policies. I recommend doing your homework on the coverage your credit card provides for travel (remember it must be the card you used to book your trip/ car rental for coverage to be effective!). Look for terms like Travel Accident Insurance, Travel Assistance, Roadside Assistance, etc. And then learn what is- and what is not- included in that coverage. You may find that it will cover the card holder and no one else, or that the coverage is minimal. I always purchase and recommend everyone consider purchasing travel insurance for an Ireland vacation. I hope that gives a bit of clarification.
Id like to go to Toronto to Ireland for 4500 10 days and I'm having trouble. So I'll watch this ty
I hope it was helpful!
I wish there was one in Joplin Missouri or Wyandotte Oklahoma delivering food and drinks on a Model Railroad
Thanks Jody, your tips will help tremendously.
I hope they were helpful!
Well that was a short ride.
You guys are so bad I speak Irish and I'm from Ireland and you guys are so bad

Nice Video! Come check out our new location with new cables opening in March! :)
Next time we are down there I will be sure to let you know!
how long were you there for?
Hi Peyton. I spend a lot of time in Ireland so I've been in every season and for months at a stretch.
This is exactly how it should be done. So many simply tell us to drop thick whipped cream on top of the prepared coffee but this method demonstrates the method of holding the spoon at the side of the glass and pouring the cream over. This gives the perfect result - well done for sharing
Thanks so much for your comment - and approval :)
Hi thank you for making this video. Im going on a trip to see my boy friend this november and staying with him i wasnt sure if i needed a visa or something else stating im staying there for the week.. any help you can provide with much appreciated
Hi Lisa. It all depends on where you are coming from. In the show notes I have links to the 'Tourist Path' page of the Irish Immigration website. Click through and you'll find all the information you need. irelandfamilyvacations.com/paperwork-passports-ireland/planning-your-irish-vacation/

This house looks lovely! I would love to stay here.
I took a tour group there this past June. It was my first time back since our stay in 2013. Such an incredible experience!
This helped a lot! Thank you
Happy to hear that!
