    In regards to the Russian video of the people clearing the roadblock: that looks to me like a robbery/kidnapping trap, and if it is, I’d guarantee that the people walking and the people in the car off in the distance were both in on it. It’s a desolate road out by itself, so they set up the roadblock and hope a lone car stops to clear it. The people walking ambush the driver and hold them there, then the car drives up and abducts the person while the walkers steal their car. It’s supposedly pretty popular among human traffickers and criminals. The only reason the people in the video got away was because there ended up being more than one person who stopped.

    Im from Russia, and for that sorry for bad English but road blocks are oddly common in the country side, i used to live on the mountain Yamantau. We had a few older kids build a roadblock and steal a few cars over 4 days. Actually probably not the car in the distance. Ambushes need to happen fast (from a military standpoint). I'm thinking the carjacking failed BECAUSE another car was coming and they couldn't carjack both so one would be witnesses. The carjackers may have started actions but then saw the other car so they stopped the attemp, otherwise they'd have been moving 100% faster.

    In India, I can assure you that in a lot of rural areas, desolate roads do have civilization on either side. It's just that these roads lack proper lighting (as is seen in the video) and so you can't really see the houses because people put their children to bed early (so they can wake up early to get water or use the communal bathrooms or go to the nearby ponds to wash their clothes). There are many reasons as to why that woman could've been out in her nighty (not counting gangs that take advantage of superstition to scare people into crashing or taking the wrong road, etc.). It's not common for women to be out so late in the night but it's not unheard of in rural areas where need stumps norm. Also, 10pm is nothing. Lots of working class citizens don't even get home until 11:30 or 12. We don't really have laws that strictly limit working hours. There's also a possibility that the woman could be mentally unstable as people in such areas don't really have the means to get help and a lot of women have undiagnosed depression because of a lack of empathy.

    That’s exactly what I thought. It looked to me like a classic robbery/kidnapping scenario. The people walking would accost the driver and hold them there until the car could drive up and abduct them. Then, the walkers take the victims car and either sell it or dump it somewhere. I think the reason the people on foot were shown in the video is because they were in the process of walking up to hold the woman driver when the guy showed up, so they wanted to look natural and not as suspicious.

    We neighbours with Malaysia and in Asia lots of weird things happen! My dad was driving a very dark road as a short cut passing through a jungle. It was past 2am and out of nowhere from a distance he sees this woman just standing in the middle of the road. He said he slowed down to check if she's alright but passed her quickly when he realised something very weird was going on, he couldn't see her feet on the ground. He said he sped up never looking back but then checked his mirror only to see her sitting in the back seat! I was laughing at him teasing him about making excuses to bring another woman home but he was pale and dead serious. He said he was praying! Eventually the woman just disappeared and he got home safe.

    50 years ago, when there were honest hitchhikers, they also used that method, with no ill intentions. A travelling couple would leave the woman by the side of the road, whereas the man would be more out of sight. When a driver stopped, thinking it's just the woman, she would ask if it's okay for both of them to get a ride. Some male drivers, who might themselves have had less than honourable intentions, would then speed away, but more decent people might not mind and offer a ride.

    @@herrakaarme There were lots of serial killers on the roads back in the 50s/60s/70s, but we just didn't know it at the time. It turns out that the 'good old days' were a lot more violent/unsafe than a lot of people realize. With advances in DNA testing and investigation techniques gradually revealed links between seemingly unconnected disappearances. Also, back in the 80s, TV news coverage tilted to more 'blood & guts' stories for the sake of ratings, engendering the notion of an increasingly more dangerous America. Today, we are now more informed about the dangers on the road while being more afraid than we really need to be, as our world is actually safer than that of our parents'/grandparents', despite the hysteria of news reports. Essentially, back then, no one knew there was a real chance of being killed while hitching. Now, we are very much aware of that risk, even though the odds may be more in our favor than their were back then.

    Does anyone know if that officer made it out of the fire? Second, I would never stop (by myself) for anyone in the middle of the night no matter how creepy they looked. I believe in ghosts and demons, but I fear humans way more. These videos definitely gave me more awareness of people using this as a tool to carjack/thieve or worse.

    First, I'm tired of seeing this comment inspired by someone else and become a fad. Second, most of them are old. And thirdly, someone else above wondered why anyone would stop and try to get better footage in such a situation? My answer was that on the other hand there will be someone to say about the bad shots.

She didn't react because (1) it's india, bikes are common thing to see in any place there and (2) she might be living in a village nearby, as there are many villages in the outskirts and they are used to seeing vehicles going by

What happened is that he and his friends were driving back from work when they were in college and they heard on the radio of a drunk driver going the opposite way on the highway, and just a few moments later they saw headlights in their lane coming straight at them, they had to speed up and go in between two cars to avoid being hit.

    The police car driving through that fire was so freakin’ scary. I live in No. California, and fires are a real danger. In fact, while I don’t know which of the many fires the cop was driving through, it reminded me of the fire in Paradise, where my young cousin and her husband lost their first home. I’m so glad that Jason and his dad made it through that fire and were saved by the lake!

    They've been known to use children as bait, for gang initiation as well. As long as you stay in the car and back up with high beams on, one can usually get away with the scared child too. They usually spook when they realize you don't leave your car for a crying child that's obviously not trying to get help, just cry in a distance. High beams on, call police and hope the child isnt so traumatized that they'll squeal.

    I live in the area where the October 2017 fires were. I should add it stretched from Santa Rosa to geyserville. We woke up at 4 am to the overwhelming smell of smoke and ash raising from the sky. My mom and I were going to get gas, water, etc at 7-11 and there were cars packed in every gas station in town. Traffic was stopped in the middle of the road, we live in a small town and pretty much everyone was on the road. I still clearly seeing the hills engulfed in flames and fire raining from the sky. To this day, I can’t even smell a barbecue without having a panic attack.

    A lot of these "random people in/on the road at night" were very obvious attempts to get driivers to slow down or stop in order to ambush or carjack them. The best idea in that situation is to NOT slow down or stop if that's avoidable, lock all your car doors, and call the police to report the situation to them.

  • @Korean-US

    @Korean-US

    Good idea... But sometimes locking cars don't help as they can easily break the glass windows . It has happened in India... The fellow left his wife and kid in car and crossed the highway to get something to eat from three gas station on the opposite side, and some goons They broke the glass windows using stones and iron rods... They were prepared... Looked like a routine MO... Thankfully they only took away the belongings and didn't harm the family... But i think that.. locking the car and staying put inside is like a sitting a duck... They may have fire arms that they can use to break open...
