Do you experience this issue? As I mentioned in the beginning, having naturally small curl clumps is not a "bad" thing at all! This is more so to address stringiness that is dry, frizzy, and will not curl up. I hope it helps!

It happens to me but what I’ve been doing is styling my hair not soaking wet but wet enough. Also, I tend to cut my hair with a blunt cut at my bottom layer since my curls there are more of a 2c/3a.

Thanks for the video! I have this stringiness issue! But I never used a diffuser because I was afraid of damage or it not working and being stuck with an expensive diffuser. I have extremely porous hair. My curls are loose spirals when my hair is soaking wet so that looks promising. Unfortunately I am mostly couch/bed bound and that does not help my curls at the back (they get flattened) I have been trying out so many different methods for curly hair, and whenever it sort of works, it just doesn’t last, it will go frizzy and flat so fast, especially if I go outside, in 10 minutes a tiny bit of breeze will just destroy curls. Another thing is, I don’t know if you have tips for this: I don’t have one single hair type, each single hair is different, some are thick, some are flimsy, some are medium and curl wise: some are zig zag, some are normal curl, some are less curly. How do I work with weird hair like that? Haha

Yes but I have wavy hair (2a-bish) as opposed to 3a or greater curls. The stringiness happens with the gel application, not when I air dry, but air drying takes forever. In my case, I'm not trying to preserve the curl coil but the wave bend, which flattens out or gets stringy quickly. It feels like there isn't enough "texture" to my hair ever, straight or wavy.

My wife hates her very thick very curly hair and it breaks my heart. She does everything to destroy her hair and I just want to help her see that she has unbelievably beautiful hair that so many other women would be jealous of... I have only ever seen her with her poofy curly hair once in like 5 years and I absolutely loved it. I'm looking for all of the information possible and trying to find products to help her with her dried out curly hair... I want to get her a large tooth comb, shampoo and conditioner for curly hair, a leave in conditioner of some kind... If anyone has any more suggestions that are budget friendly I'm all in!

Aww Well, it depends on how fine or thick her hair is. If each strand of hair is thin/fine then she'll need different products than if each strand of hair is coarse/thicker. You can look online for definition of curly hair types. You can have a thick head of hair and still have fine hair type of curls. If her hair is medium or fine then most curl products and curl shampoo will have too much oil for her hair (Shampoo should never have any oil products in it no matter hair type!). If she has more textured hair then her hair can handle more oils and they won't weigh her hair down. Her hair type will also determine if she uses heavier gels or lighter gels or mousse for hold. Another thing to keep in mind for women is that chronic stress, hormones and childbirth can change the texture of your curls. The nutrients she gets or isn't getting can change it too. Supplements can change it too - for better or worse. I manage my fine hair curls by brushing my hair in the shower with a wide tooth comb while I have conditioner in it. Currently gel can be too heavy on my hair sometimes so I use mousse if I want more hold. Also satin pillow case is important for curls. Satin hair turbans can help at night. I can't sleep in them, but many women do. There's a lot of info on curls! It can be overwhelming to start. But just take it slow and experiment. You can also look for a curl salon or curl expert and book her an appointment. (They're usually in bigger towns/cities) I always loved my curls cuz I felt my hair was already done. I just had to wash/condition my hair, comb in the shower, put some mousse in and put it up/pin it up for an hour then let it down and Ta-da! It'd be curly. I was the only one in my family who had them so I had to figure it out myself and had to care for my hair differently than my sisters and mom. Good luck! and let her know there are definitely ways to make her curls work for her. She just has to get to know them and show them some love. PS I just saw another video by Gena that explains how to pick products, posted 3 months ago. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y2aDrrCTe6nTfMo.html

Awww this is the cutest comment lol Grape seed hair oil is really light weight yet nourishing for all curls and smells soooo good ! Argan oil is also good but can be a bit heavy on curls and weigh them down. A good olive oil leave in condition IS A MUST. It's important if your wife transitions to embrace her stunning curly hair to have a pre poo routine. Research pre poo routine-it's a curly girl game changer !😂😊

Show her tons of videos of women with hair like hers with before and after pictures. There are so many people who don't realize what their hair could look like if treated right. The curly girl method is the best start so that you know what products to avoid and ingredients to avoid in all products. She has to stop heat styling too. But the important thing is to show her videos of people with hair like hers that get transformed into lushious curls. Search KZread for naturally curly hair tutorials, like "I didn't know my hair was curly/could look like this" or something similar. They show step by step what to do to achieve the results. If she doesn't listen after that, then she must be very stupid and a lost case...

Im using curly hair products and drying hair with a t shirt, not a towel, and sleeping with a satin or silk pillow case or hair cap. I hope this helps and she learns to embrace her hair.

Get used to washing the hair only once a week. (Sweat removal only with a sour rinse in a basin, not even getting the full length of hair wet - if the hair is longer). If you just massage the water with a bit of vinegar into the scalp, you do not lose whatever product you have in the hair. Nor do you lose the curl definition (completely). Of course it would be a good idea to braid your hair or have it in a ponytail during exercising. For instance the Curly Girl method does not seem to be _that_ much work, especially when the big wash is only once a week. Wash your hair, condition, fold into a towel (or apply your gadgets to achieve cursl) and have a few hours at home (housework, reading, watching TV, crafting) where you let it dry. Then finish the job with a hair dryer (going to bed with wet hair is not such a good idea. I feel it could promote fungal infections on the scalp).

It doesn’t have to take hours. I wash 3x/ week and can get good results in 20 minutes. If I have thirty, it can look fantastic. Brush styling doesn’t work for me. If you wanted you could just try one tip at a time. Or don’t. Whatever works! Just saying I wouldn’t spend hours on my hair either

When I was younger, I wore my hair a lot like you do. However, I would purposefully pull a few curls from the left side of my head to the right and from the right to the left. This gave a much more rounded, fuller look on top and kept it from looking so flat at the part.

I thought this too but curly hair doesn’t need to be washed that much bc it’ll dry the hair out, so you can wash maybe 1-3x a week depends on how tight your curls are. I have 2b + 3a curls and i only wash 2-3x times a week and you don’t need to use lots of products or brush style, you can do the scrunch method and maybe finger curl just the front pieces like bangs

I feel that. Sometimes I miss my curls, and think of bringing them back, but too, for me at least, it’s the fact that if I blow mine out, it will last for days, but if it’s curly, the daily refreshing those… ugh. Maybe it’s time, or I just haven’t found a good refresh technique for my hair, but it feels like too much work.

When i started using curly hair i thought that too. But today its very low mainitence and healthy after using curly girl method. Each hair is diferent, but for me it worked very well. basically i wash it 2 or 3x a week, and in those times, i brush and apply gel while soaking wet (1min) wrap my hair up and i can get dress, prepare something or etc for 15-20 min, then i let it air dry or i difuse it. it is good for daays, the more healthy your hair is, the more days it will last. I dont waste time styling it. Regular days i just wake up and put a little bit of oil in the ends and im ready

Curly hair is like humans, we’re all unique. For me, I have a 3C curl pattern and have lots of shrinkage so I prefer to use elongating products. Make sure you're not using any silicones in your products! Not in the shampoo, conditioner, masks or in the styling products! Google "Avoid silicones in hair products". Read every label and avoid products containing words that end with -cones, -conols, -silanes, and -siloxanes. If you live with your parents it can be hard to get them to allow you to buy your own hair products depending on culture and country. Some cultures don't let their kids deside anything or even handle money on their own. But it's essential to get rid of silicones to be able to get the moisture into the hair. Hide your own products from the rest of the family because they might not care and use your stuff without your concent... I hope your family is not toxic like this but I've seen many videos of girls from different countries living with parents who are extremely toxic about their curly hair and won't let them buy anything and constantly tell them they have bad ugly hair when in reality it could be so beautiful if they embraced the curls instead...

Good points Gena. When my hair was longer it was more stringy and that was due to being low density and uneven density through length. I've had my hair cut to a pixie and it's now a Bixie (bob/pixie) and this improved the appearance of my hair. It's much even looking curl clumps now though they are small. Curl pattern impacts your curl clump size too. The tighter your pattern the smaller the clumps. However density comes back into play about how full your hair will look. There are people with tiny curl clumps who can still appear to have a lot of hair however density and styling techniques contribute to this.

@@GenaMarieIn 2008 I stopped dying my hair. I had like 30 gray hairs on my head. Well I'm at 60 70%. My gray hair does not curl like my old hair. And it's been an absolute nightmare for me. I've never really used a lot of heat. And the more and more gray hair that has come in I've literally just thrown on a cap and put my hair in a bun. I would love to have my curls back.. Now I know my gray hair has to curl because some of them curl. But then some of them are this weird wave it's just weird it's so weird. I guess when I was in the womb I was like hey God you got that beautiful Elvin white hair like my mom has. God was like no. Oh what kind of hair do you have you'll see.. It feels like wires. I don't know what to do right now. I got messy head. I can't wait to watch this. I stood in the aisle tonight looking at thousands of products. Apparently I'm not hydrating my hair enough. And I could just fall into anxiety whenever I think about going to hair stylist. I've had really good luck with them. I've done everything on my own. Although I did have a hair stylist teach me how to do my curly hair. But this is a whole new thing. I feel like I'm back at the drawing board. At 12 years old, my mother promised me. For your 13th birthday you can do anything you want to your hair. I'm not joking I had hair down to the back of my knees. It was never shorter than mid thigh. A nightmare when you were going to the bathroom at night and tired. A nightmare and absolute nightmare.. Everyone talked about my curls but I didn't know what they were talking about. They were talking about the hairs around my head. Funny.. When I was 13 years old I immediately got it chopped. To my shoulders. I always wanted a bob. The woman did say wow you have natural curl. I laughed and was like what Okay? She chopped it. I threw it up in a bun. Went and had ice cream and passed out.. My little soft hair tie wasn't holding it. As I slept it just afroed.. I woke up that morning with my hair I'm not joking It was midline ear.. I couldn't believe it.. My grandfather said My goodness you got a permanent. I said no I didn't. I didn't perm my hair? I looked in the mirror and flipped.. I called the salon and met the woman at the salon.. panicked. I was like, ma'am. Did you use something on my hair to make it curl what happened? She laughed and said Oh teenagers. Only hearing what you want to hear.. 😅 I said what do you mean? She said Do you remember me saying Oh you're curls. And you just shrugged it off.. I apologized. She said that's okay. She invited me into the salon and her morning appointment canceled.. She said, sit down. This is exciting. I had a cancellation. And I'm going to help you. She taught me everything about my curly hair.. And it was very simple If I have weight off my hair. It curls.. I'm a 3B 3C.. And the shorter it gets the tighter it gets. Especially around the nape of my neck and around my forehead and stuff. This new gray hair is crazy. It's not hair I swear I bet you I could not it from end-to-end and catch a tuna😅 in the ocean. The stuff is like steel💪😂😂😂with a mind of its own.🫸🙃🫷👉😏👈 I feel like a teenager again. What's going on 😅 😂🤣😆 My husband asked me well why don't you just straighten it. I said because straightening it is harder on your hair I use less heat with my curly hair. And it has a crazy movement to it and it's thick thin thick thin thick thin. It has that weirdness that curly hair needs. Why straighten it. He said because you wanted the Elvin hair 🧝🏼‍♀️... So just go that way. I said no way. I got to dig down and love my weird witchy hair. Especially since there's so much of it now. It's completely unavoidable. At least the hat helped hide all the new growth. That was really hilarious. I'd wake up in the morning and my husband would be staring above my head. And I'm like, darling I have no halo up there. You looking at all my gray hairs growing in 😅 Yeah they didn't start bending over until they got a couple inches long. Oh my goodness hilarious.. Time to love this crazy hair and learn how to manage. 😅

Holy cow! This is the first curl video with someone with the same texture of hair I have. I am definitely going to try your technique. You have beautiful curls. ❤ Update: I tried it, and now I don't do my curls any other way. Actually, my curls are curly now than they have been in years, even on days I don't try very hard. I keep getting asked if I've had a perm. Girl, thank you so much for this video!

Ohhh, that brushing technique is cool. I’ve gotten a perm recently for my fine hair (I have a lot of it, it’s just the texture is fine) and tried to do as much research as possible beforehand with care and styling. I’ve had stick straight hair all my life, so most I ever had to do was some oils/serums and be on my way. I have been able to maintain the curls thus far, but this routine will be good to incorporate to ensure the best results, so thanks. So much respect and gratitude for the curly haired girlies that share their knowledge.

My mother had no idea what to do with my curly hair growing up, she had very straight hair, and would just keep brushing and mine and I looked like a scarecrow, some people even say my hair was like rats tails or unruly. It wasn’t until I became an adult and realised what she was doing was all so very wrong, now I just follow the same black hair care routine. I’m not great at it but it does help.

I have the same kind of hair except it’s a little straighter at the top . I started using Wella sugar spray and it worked great. It made my hair dry in a way where the top looked smooth and I had big voluminous curls towards the end (my hair is long). I would spray it in, comb it straight, and twist all of my hair into a side curl. Then I’d hit the crown with a little cool air from the diffuser. Perfect Beach babe hair. And it smells so nice!

Im 61, have very curly hair thats getting dryer with age. I use coconut oil on my very wet conditioned hair. Then comb it all in the style i want it to lay. Then, just scrunch. Air dry, no hair dryers. After 4 or 5 hours, just comb it with my fingers and scrunch. Then the next day, i flat iron my bangs, then clip up the rest. Then i might flat iron the rest to a gently curly style because i like to brush my hair, which you cant do If its very curly. In the winter time low humidity, i can keep my gently curly style for 2 weeks without washing. Ive had people say they love my hair...do i dare tell them i havent shampooed in 2 weeks?😂 yes!

My hair is very thick, long, and 2c waves with a few ringlets underneath... and yet I always get such great tips from your videos! 🙂 I get very little frizz with air drying v. a diffuser, but ONLY if I've kept up with my deep conditioning. I'm going to practice with my denman brush, though, because I think with a little effort I could develop more curls. Thanks for such a thorough video!

Have you ever tried using bantu knots on damp hair with a good leave in conditioner? Several hairstylists that regularly work on and/or have curly have have mentioned this to me. I haven't got the technic down yet so I am braiding my wet hair with my favorite leave in, and sleeping with it overnight in a satin cap.

I am so glad I found your videos. You really know a great deal about curls. I have gray curly hair (3c) that is falling out, thin and low density. (Im 72) I am letting my curls grow out since April 2023 when I had a terrible haircut. I sleep on a silk pillowcase. The second day how do I refresh my curls? The day of washing and styling are fine, but after that curls are a mess. Thank you for your input. I’m happy to have found your videos. Great explanations.

To soften my cast I will either fluff the roots with my dry fingers and/or run a wide tooth comb through my curls no more than once as to not break up the curls too much. I get compliments every time I soften the cast with the wide toothed comb. Until today I have never found a video which addressed all of these particular things that I struggle with and have struggled with for the last 40 years living with curls. Definitely a very useful video with fantastic tips and tricks!

@@Elizabeth-gj9jb usually I add a volumizing foam after plopping for 10 min or after microplopping and before diffusing. Usually I apply it upside down and glaze the foam over on both sides and very lightly scrunch/squish or use an open palm scrunch.

Love your video! So easy to follow…I’m still learning…so much is trial and error, but having an explanation for my result is such a relief! Frizz is a huge issue, but I tried JVN Instant Recovery Serum and it helped my porosity issue…game changer. Your comments about gel are really sticking with me too though. I have only tried one so far. Also, I very recently got a much needed trim after my postpartum hair loss is recovering, and it was exactly what I needed for the super thin ends. That explains a lot! I will watch for the thinning to happen again and call my stylist for a trim lol. Amazing tips ✌️
