I wasn't happy with the hair stylist blowing out my wavy hair straight, even when I asked her to diffuse it, and then using the curling iron and watching the style fall out when I left the shop. So I started doing it myself. I used gel & set my hair using toilet paper tubes that I cut up. Yes, LOL I need something sturdier than that, but after removal I worked my hands thru my hair & it looked so pretty! I have volume I didn't have before and after sleeping on it, the curls relax into what you call "stringy". I don't mind that now because the warm & humid weather has arrived & my thin hair looks full. Now I'm a new subscriber!

I’m black, so I have coils hair., I don’t need to scrunch mine; it will roll up on its own if I let it. I am watching this to learn about different hair types. And a difference I see is that if I can get my hair to a point of being stringy when wet gives me beautiful curls. Most of my problems were solved using Curls Curl Paste on slightly damp hair. There is no noticeable gel caste. My hair just looks great. But, I think your hair looks lovely.

I actually like your hair at the start of the video too!! Probably because that's what my good hair days look like. I prefer a bit more of a looser wave and less definition on myself; I usually run a wide tooth comb through once or twice and I get so much volume! I've found the trick to combating frizz is to use two small pumps of the Curlsmith Full Body Thickening Lotion and it really keeps that frizz at a minumum :) Also! I finally bought a chelating shampoo as we have *extremely* hard well water. Haven't tried that yet but gonna try next week when I have my next day off!

Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I’m at the beginning of my wavy hair journey and have done two wash days so far. I’m excited at just how wavy my hair is 😮, but was bummed with having curly fries on my head. I tried (without knowing how) to soften them up and break the cast, but unfortunately that just turned into a big frizzy mess. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m grateful of you taking the time to share your knowledge with us and am encouraged to continue. I live in Dallas and would be very appreciative if you would suggest a wavy/curly stylist I could partner with. Thank you again. 😊

My hair is very fine and thin. I did all the things for over a year and most of the time the back looked terrible and it was super stingy. Every so often the stars would align and I'd have the perfect hair day. It's so frustrating not being able to figure it out. And with two little kids I just don't have time to devote to figuring it out right now. So I've just been washing with good products and doing the squish to condish for now. Maybe one day I'll be able to figure it out. Mine looked like your stringy picture pretty much all the time when I would style it.

Could you do one explaining the different techniques for volume vs definition. Both are ofcourse ideal but probably not realistic. When I say please to a volume video, I don't mean the bad stuff obviously. I won't use Terry cloth towels or cheap, bad products. But perhaps different methods of styling that are also healthy for our hair. Thanks! Also, as I said in the fb pm I sent you. Thanks for the t-shirt tip! I now own sooooo many!

I have just stumbled over your video thank goodness I did. I had stringy crunchy strands of hair, I had to get ready quickly this morning. I tried out the clap method over my dry hair it really did work. Now my curls are back with their usual bounce. I want to ask what do you do with your hair when you sleep? I have subscribed to your channel.

I bleached my hair 2 yrs ago Lost all my curl and finally gave up on it. Finally decided to get back on board and got 6 inches off it’s a little Shorter than yours. I have a little bleach left but it looks so much better. I’m in transition but hopefully it won’t last long. My hair is also about the same color as yours I do have some great curls coming out. Just gotta work on my tech and products my hair loves.

My curls got mad at me after I worked at a factory where I had to wear a hair net and put my hair up every day. They are really elongated. I also need a trim badly. It's nice to see you again. I haven't seen a video from you for a couple years.

THIS is what my hair is like! Where have you been all my life? 😅 & I think post cancer treatment, my hair came back just as thick & wavy, but finer than before. So I still struggle with what I call “wildebeast” volume if I just let my hair dry naturally 😂 & I do have somewhat hard water, so clarify on occasion, but I’d really like to see what you do for your clarifying & deep conditioning routine.

Thank you for this! I did not know about the t-shirt drying. My 18 month old has curly hair inherited from her paternal grandfather. And of course, she inherited my super fine and super slow growing hair. So I've begun researching what I need to do with her hair as she finally has a couple inches of hair. Thank you again for the info, ill be checking out your other videos. Any suggestions on products to try for a little kid?

Try oiling your ends. I have highlighted hair and get a trim once a year. My hairdresser is always amazed at the fact I have very few split ends. I oil them everyday with olaplex or Moroccan oil, ends only. The hair soaks it up like a sponge, no greasyness at all and seriously prevents split ends. I have stage 4 oral cancer that has spread to my neck at the moment so have had to cut it short for convenience really, it was down to my elbows. I cried my guts out but its just hair am I right. Oil,oil, oil those ends girls,it really helps.xx

I am glad you mentioned the towel thing and how to dry properly, because I really have been (I think) messing this part of my routine up. Using all the right products, but literally wrapping up my hair in a big twist in a towel (admittedly a microfibre one, but still), really drying out my hair and then aggressively scrunching. My hair looks like absolute sh!t as a result 😆

Hi Courtney! I’m a new subscriber, and thank you for your great tips! I have a question that I’d love your input on, please. If I occasionally blow dry and flat iron straighten my 2C/3A hair, do I completely reset the transition period? I feel like when I have to look “good” for an event, I can’t count on wearing my hair curly because it can look wonky and stringy. I also feel like I’m addicted, if you will, to my straight hair style which I can count on looking good (mostly from the benefit of the body my hair has from the curl). Please advise … do I need to completely stop straightening my hair to expect big, juicy curl clumps? xo

Now that my hair is shorter, I love scrunching my wet hair (upside down) with a little bit of Vo5 Strawberries and cream conditioner. It makes my wavy hair slightly curly... with no crunchiness or stringiness. It lasts for a few days... then back to wavy.

*Healthy Hair First* . I discovered your channel when I was on a mission to just have healthy hair. I was going through menopause (hair fall-out), hard water and crappy product repercussions. I stopped coloring my hair, upgraded my products and got a series trim. I wasn't even attempting to embrace the "waves", but I did and have never looked back. I recently took off about four inches because pictures say it all. My hair had gotten to long to hold my 2B waves and looked sparse at the ends. Collar bone length works best for me as I don't have high density and I like to be able to put my hair up in a claw clip. I have yet to find a ride or die gel so I stick with mousse. T-shirt only for plopping and minimal diffusing works best for me. I only use distilled water for re-freshing and a bit of Aussie Mousse with Leave-In. Any time I have over manipulated my hair, it's not been a great wash day. I stay in my lane. It's a good wash day for me if my hair looks like yours does in this video. Thank you Courtney, you are a gem!

I think your hair looks great. I am 64, hit menopause at 40, and my wonderful curly hair has never been the same. Extremely thin now, and if I try to let it dry naturally, as I did in the past it is frizzy, and the curls are stringy like a poodle. Perhaps this is a topic other natural curly gals have issues with. Thx!

Always had fine, lower density hair, that gets really easily weighed down and stretched, and it is lower density still going into menopause. Without knowing what you are doing now, no one could say for certain, but I can tell you that I have to go really lightweight, have my hair soaking wet (to use less product and encourage the clump), use mousse only at the roots, I actually use body lotion just at the ends for definition and hold, and then use a camping towel to scrunch and get the excess off. I then deal with those roots that like to stick to my scalp (ugh) or lie in funny directions. Good luck to you!
