Baby fine, very low density. I have to use toddler micro bobbles. I find that not going for 'juicy clumps' was a big key...and accepting that I needed to break my 2c3a hair into smaller clumps is Fine. The Curly community puts so much emphasis on Fat Ringlets. It's nice to see you and Holistic Enchalada both talk about it being OK to separate out your curls and not go for Maximum Clumpage. My front pieces still try and clump together into 3 ringlets🤪🤣

Video just popped up randomly on my KZread suggestions. You've just explained why so many Curly Girl tips and methods don't work on my hair. Mine is somewhere between a 2b and 2c, almost pure grey, and has some coarse weird hair, but not a whole lot of it. I thought my hair was fine, but my weak little pony tails suggest it's low density. Thank you for this video. I'm going to officially stop trying to plop my hair.

Thank you SO much! I thought my hair was thinning with age…NO! Turns out I was just using methods that were not right for my fine, low-density curls and I can’t thank you enough for breaking this all down. This routine is much more similar to the one I used years ago before I was told I had to start styling upside down, put in product on soaking curls, etc., and I’m so excited for my hair to feel like MINE again. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I am coming back to this video to THANK YOU for these tips! I started curly girl method one year ago and while I've been loving how healthy my hair is becoming, I had such struggles styling it because I was leaving too much water in my hair and doing it upside down. The very first time after following your tips (right side up, combing my hair back away from my face, and taking more water out before using my products) I started getting more compliments! I've stayed with your routine and it looks so much better!! :)

Girl! I am so happy to have found this video and I will be checking out your others. I have fine, low-density, high porosity hair that goes just below my shoulders (right now). I am also not a natural curly girl, I have a perm. So, that along with my naturally sun bleached hair, means that I am trying to build bonds and create/maintain my curls. I am also noticing a lot of hair loss, but don’t know if that is because I am washing less often or because of age (I’m 54). I have been using Aragon oil for 5 years and that helps. I recently started using a leave in repair cream and found a hair fall rescue shampoo and conditioner. My go-to styling product is a jelly but I do have a cupboard full of products. Anyway! I have to say that my whole life the instinct has been to flip upside down to dry my hair (with a diffuser) but what you said made so much sense that I didn’t this morning and my scalp is well covered! I don’t have as much lift at the scalp but I do have nice curls this morning. I know it will get fuller on day two. I don’t know for sure if I should use curly techniques, especially as the perm grows out and I have a good 2-3 inches of straight regrowth, but I figure it can’t hurt! Anyhow…thanks again!! Added to my liked videos,,,

I am SO happy to have found your channel!! I have always had naturally wavy/curly hair but never knew how to style or care for it so I always flat ironed it... I am a recent breast cancer survivor and am now taking the time to learn how to care for my new curls; now that my hair is basically brand new. Your videos have been so helpful!! I was especially grateful for this one bc I seem to now have a cowlick that wasn't there before and I feel like I have a bald spot and it's been so embarrassing. Anyway, any other tips you might have for very short curly hair? I can't do some of the steps or techniques bc of my hair being so short. It can't grow back fast enough, lol!! Anyway, THANK YOU for all the tips and time you put in to making these videos!!

This video is SO GREAT!! Thank you so much for sharing so much about finer hair. I’m doing a modified CGM and I have found a lot of these things to be true for someone like me. I have fine hair, probably 2b or 2c, maybe low or low-medium density and I guess I must have high porosity hair…it dries quickly. My hairdresser always wants to put a lot of heavy product in it and then it feels like it has a greasy coating on it when it’s done, I don’t like that feeling. If I use the right combination of products and methods of styling, my hair is fluffy and curly, with defined curls and feels like there’s no products on my hair. I’m definitely still in the process of figuring out what is best for my hair, but I occasionally have a day when my hair is exactly as I would like it to be. Thank you so much for this great tips, this has helped me tremendously!

I super appreciate this video. I grew up handling my curls all the wrong way, lol Soaking wet, putting products in very wet hair, and never touching my hair with a brush. The Denman brush stuff that's been trending the last few years caught my eye, but as someone with low-density hair, it's been frustrating wading through steps that don't apply to me. Been straightening my hair so I can better cover my scalp in areas, but I'm excited to apply these ideas and wear my hair natural again. Thanks!

Thank you Gina, for these great tips! I have both low density and mostly thin hair. Although, as I’m nearing 40, I am discovering some random hairs that are very coats and thick. From root tip, those hairs feel very rough and bumpy. (Could be hormones 😬) I love the definition, when I can get my curls there. But it is that challenge of being “see-through” and really looking like thin hair.

You have been a great help to me. I have hair like yours, and I didn't understand about density before seeing your videos. My strands are thick and coarse, and my hair looks thick when it is dry, but once I wet it down or (heaven forbid) flat iron it, it's like I have no hair at all. I actually use products labelled for thick curly hair, and they work far better for me than products for fine hair. It's a weird predicament, but I am grateful for your expertise.

I couldn't figure out why my hair was forming a part there. I was in my 60s years when my hair started coming in curly (due to illness and medication). I am overjoyed to have curls, but at a loss on how to get the most out of my super fine, low density hair. I truly appreciate your videos; I am learning so much. I especially love the tips for covering my scalp where my cowlick is!

Thank God there's somebody else out there with coarse, low density hair! I've been searching for years! 99% of products and YTers are targeted for fine haired curlies, full of protein, usually. Now if I could find one with an inconsistent curl pattern! Your curls look beautiful! And I love your techniques.

I do appreciate the tips you so have shown. Most of the videos I’ve seen are from women who have super thick hair. Mine is very fine with the occasional corse errant hair. My hair is so fine that I cannot use any brushes with the tips like the brush you use. It will get tangled up immediately and impossible to extricate it! Thank you, I’ll be looking forward for your next videos.

I’m so glad I found this video! I would say I have fine medium density wavy hair. Everyone I see recommends styling upside down or plopping and every time I do that my roots look wonky!

I've also come to the most of these conclusions for my hair. Mine has even lower density plus inconsistent texture and porosity (almost two different heads, basically😅). One thing is that I like to really go in with fluffing my roots (to break and hide the cowlicks) and I do that before breaking the cast, so I don't create too much frizz Edit: forgot to add! I mostly can't and don't like to wash my hair upright, so when I detangle it before washing, I kinda brush it forward, like how it would be it the process of washing. That way it wont tangle too much with shampoo and the slip from conditioning and leave-in will help to place it back more safely afterwards

Wow, this is really good! I've been in my "curly journey" since 2007, after I first read Lorraine Massey's Curly Girl book (even though I've never relaxed or straightened my hair, before reading her book I really didn't pay attention in how to style it/treat it properly). It took me almost 10 years of trial-and-error to finally learn how to deal well with my hair (I think I've 'mastered' it circa 2016~2017), mostly because a lot of the common curly girl tips wouldn't work for me, though I didn't know why. I had to realize all of this by myself, but I'm glad you made such a detailed video that could help a lot of people, so they wouldn't take as much time as I took to understand why some techniques don't work for them! And I have to say that, even though I don't style my hair upside down and also use a brush, I never realized this was related to having low-density hair! I have always wondered, "why does this work for everybody except for me?"

Sounds like the virus has lowered your vitamin and minerals that are stored in your body. My hair started shedding from poor nutrition so I fixed this by upping my vitamin D, taking a multivitamin pill with probiotics and using nutritional yeast in my cooking. My hair is looking so much better now that it’s stopped shedding, and I’m not freaking out anymore, as clumps of hair would shed.

@@raquelswavycurls that’s good, I hope that you have no serious side effects from getting COVID and fully recovered now. I live in New Zealand and thankfully it hasn’t hit us hard yet. Hopefully the vitamins will help like it helped me. I find it very fascinating with what vitamin and minerals can do to the human body. However, once my hair started to regrow it looked like I put my finger in a power socket as my new hair was curlier. This resulted in me cutting my hair, so i didn’t need to wear it up

I can’t thank you enough. I’m dealing with a really upsetting amount of hair loss after I stopped taking spironolactone, prescribed for acne, I hate the side effects, stopped taking it and a couple weeks later my hair is falling out everytime I touch it. I’ve since started spironolactone again because I panicked at the hair loss, but it’s still falling out. In one month I feel I’ve lost almost half my hair. I previously had lots of shoulder length 2b - 3a hair. It was fine but you really couldn’t tell because there was a lot of it. I got compliments on my hair all the time. My mom who passed away had lots of curly hair and once I embraced my curls and grew it out from a short pixie, I felt so proud of my hair and looking in the mirror I saw my mom in myself. I had my styling techniques down, I knew exactly what to do to get really defined curls and I naturally had the volume to not have a need to break up bigger curl clumps. Cue the hair loss. Quite suddenly my hair looked flat even while dry, my scalp showing all over. Not to be dramatic but it kind of broke my heart. Up until today I’ve spent weeks looking at every type of hair product to regrow hair, to stop hair fall, serums and mousses and oils and shampoos and conditioners and hair fibers and hairline powders and root lift. I started getting depressed spending most of my limited free time obsessing over finding that magic bullet to “fix” my hair. I accidentally ended up here. I was looking at tutorials for a root lifting hairspray. Clicked on different somewhat relevant algorithm suggested videos for a while, and ended up here eventually. I was blown away early on in your video. Literally every single thing I’ve been doing to my hair is working against me. Rinsing upside down, heavy products, thick gel, plopping, scrunching and styling upside down, not separating curl clumps, letting all my hair fall forward while wet with my roots pressed against my scalp, applying my products to completely soaking wet hair and then air drying. All these methods worked great on my hair before. It never occurred to me that if my hair has fundamentally changed, I should adjust my hair care and styling methods to follow suit. Use methods that will actually work for my now low density hair. I kind of absentmindedly played with my hair just a little bit while watching your video. Broke up some curl clumps, messed with my roots a little bit to make sure they weren’t so pressed against my scalp, made sure the underside curl clumps were separated more. I went to go look in the mirror and WOW, just doing those things made my hair look SO much better. I can barely see any scalp, my hair looks full and healthy. And this was after I had already styled my hair the totally wrong way and after it had air dried. Ummmm I am super excited to do my hair tomorrow. I already know it’s going to make a huge difference. Just watching this video made me realize that instead of hyperfixating on how “wrong “and “bad “my hair was, I could start working with what I’ve got and I can still lovingly take care of my hair. I know it sounds strange but I feel like a weight was lifted off me. Seriously, thank you so much. You’re changing lives out here. Much love and appreciation from your fellow curly haired sister.

Hi Gena Marie, Thanks for this great video! My hair has definitely lost density as I've gotten older so this video is very helpful for me. The best product I found is Dippity Do Curls For Girls Curl Boosting Mousse. I tried other mousses but this is the best. I get fat, voluminous curls with it.

Omg, it now makes sense why the upside down squish to condish method did not work well with my long, fine, low density curls. I tried curly girl method a few times. It got weird when I flipped it back over. I could see my scalp and always had to rake thru to break up the curl clumps to make it look better. I quickly went back to my normal method, which is super close to yours!

"aging grayish hair that has another mind of its own" ahahahahahah so true! My graying hair started when I was 18, just one here and there, and now I'm 34 and 60% of my head is made of white hair (which I refuse to dye because it's so exhausting to retouch roots, and I prefer crazy colors anyway), but yeah, white hair have a whole other personality to them, it's like they are really rebelling ("I don't wanna have the same color than other hairs", "I don't wanna have the same texture", "I wanna look like dog's fur") LOL
