I just got placed in Galicia for the English teaching program through the government program. Galicia was my first choice though I didn’t know much about it when I chose it. Your videos are making me SO excited. Galicia seems so beautiful

Good for you for coming here, Amanda. It will be a great adventure. And yes, Galicia is very beautiful in multiple ways. My advice is to watch and listen as the culture swirls around you. Don't focus on what you are missing from your own culture, focus on what this one can teach you. You will remember these days your whole life. Un abrazo!

Good to see that besides the drought and forest fires the Galician people are still enjoying their festas & romerías. Again, great selection of Galician folk tunes in your soundtrack. I wish our Spanish filmakers that so often go to Galicia for the backgound landscapes, would make such a wise and tasteful effort as yours.

Muchas gracias, Pio! Putting the soundtrack together takes tremendous effort, but we don't feel we can make these videos without using the regional music -- it carries so much the spirit of Galicia. The musicians here are a Galician national treasure.

My dad's side of the family are from galicia and im going there in August for the fiestas but next year im moving to galicia permanently because i love the lifestyle and the culture and traditions hope you enjoyed your visit to beautiful galicia

Thousand of them. From early Spring till Summer end too. In Autumn they called to receive Autumn Season 'Fiesta/Feira da Castaña 🌰 ' En Ourense est tras jolie de voir 💛

So much fun. The Galician people work very hard and also know how to have fun together.

Las fiestas de pueblo son las mejores. Too bad that they looked empty. I am from Galicia and 40 years ago I atended San Roque in the fishing town of Viveiro. It was seven days nonstop. I was there for about three and we slept on the field on the mountain. It was packed. The young people have gone to the big cities to forge a future. The small town are deserted. By the way, Spanish is still required in school and now the young people speak some English. Love from an old timer!

Hi George. I think the fiestas were a little slow because of the pandemic. We went to one last weekend and it was packed with people! We went to a few that weren't included in the video, and believe me, fiesta culture is still alive and well. Do you ever get a chance to come back and visit?

People of all ages partying all night! You don't get that here in Rochester.

Hi! I have a question about Galicia. We travel to Spain often and are looking for a place to settle for long stays. I have avoided Galicia because of the strong preference for the local dialect. I'm a Spanish nerd and if we go somewhere, I want Spanish. Is the dialect as prevalent as I have been told? Would I feel like I should learn it if I lived there?

Hi! First -- you should know that gallego isn't a local dialect. It's an 800-year old language that is spoken by millions of people. That said, I would estimate that just under 100% of the people in Galicia speak Spanish, and many, many others speak one or more languages in addition to those two. One of the "problems" we have dealt with here is that a lot of people like to practice their English when they encounter an English speaker, so we often have to ask to speak in Spanish (which we are focusing on learning first before tackling gallego). Out in rural Galicia, most people speak gallego in their day to day lives. We have heard so much of it around us, that our brains are starting to understand it even though we aren't yet actively working on learning it. It's a lovely language, and you can tell when they switch to it by all the "shh" sounds that sneak in that you don't hear in Spanish. I encourage you to check out this incredible place without fear. The people are warm and inviting. This complex culture is infused with passion and history and melancholy and joy. If you come here with a humble spirit and respect the land and take an interest in this culture without imposing your own, you'll have a magical experience.

So far it was going to be mostly Asturias and Cantabria but now we may try to include Galicia and I thank you for your encouraging words.

Hi! Galician lenguage is same like Spanish, Catalunya or Euskera lamguages. They are open to speak (if we can) in own & languages from persons visit us (hope you (and ur family can enjoy those water lands ( Galicia is so similar with 'our Ireland cousins: in tranditions and same ( they almost r same feelings) way ro live It's nice to me (personally) travel other places, towns & countries too. Art, culture, gens&gastronomy are the most value in each country or lands 🤍💙🤍 ~ 💚🤍🧡 💒

One place to live one, two or singles days rent is nice in #RiasBaixas (all year really, each season time is wonderful to enjoy). There is a lot of things to do (Pontevedra Museum is perfect to rain days and sunny days too). Vigo, all his streets, Parque de Castrelos (there is a lot of concerts too) or Vialia are places to enjoying 4 all ages. Sanxenxo has so much sunny days wiz warm temperatures & Ribadeo (North-west coast in Galicia arr the best to enjoy fresh mornings and nights , perfect to Galician siestas, cocido gallego (lacón, grelos , patatas, chorizo, habas [fabas] and repollo---> feels so great in stomach warming heart & soul with this traditional meal (lot of gastronomy jewels round here too) I hope i help you and be #always #welcome in #Galician lands ❤
