Hola! Welcome to Jane in Spain, where Sarah "Jane" and Jones Longshot (and dogs Ruby and Hazel) explore how and why we left the US for Spain, and show you what our life here in Spain is like. We are in love with Galicia and its people, and we love to learn about this ancient culture and how its rich history is reflected all around us.
We are committed to publishing positive, uplifting content. We hope you find our videos calming. We are focused on the beauty that surrounds us, often little things that sometimes go unnoticed.
Please help this labor of love grow by subscribing, liking our videos, and sharing them. Muchas gracias!

Nunca choveu que non escampara means that as bad as it may seem whatever it is that life throws at you, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. Literally yes, it never rained that it didn’t stop. Figuratively or used with Galician “retranca” it means as bad as it may seem, it’ll all pass and eventually it’ll all be well.
😊
I just got placed in Galicia for the English teaching program through the government program. Galicia was my first choice though I didn’t know much about it when I chose it. Your videos are making me SO excited. Galicia seems so beautiful
Good for you for coming here, Amanda. It will be a great adventure. And yes, Galicia is very beautiful in multiple ways. My advice is to watch and listen as the culture swirls around you. Don't focus on what you are missing from your own culture, focus on what this one can teach you. You will remember these days your whole life. Un abrazo!
My dad's side of the family are from galicia and im going there in August for the fiestas but next year im moving to galicia permanently because i love the lifestyle and the culture and traditions hope you enjoyed your visit to beautiful galicia
What's your favorite fiesta? Congratulations on moving here. Lucky for us, we're not visitors. We live in beautiful Galicia and will stay the rest of our lives. ❤
@@JaneinSpain I go to the one in sada because that's the town I'm moving to but I do enjoy the balloon in betanzos

Breath taking. I love Spain
Just found your channel. Love your videos! I notice you haven’t posted in a while. I hope you haven’t given up the ghost and that you aren’t sick.
What a great video about an often ignored but incredible region of Spain. Galicia is our blood whether we were born there or not.
Extraordinaria calidad de edición , sonido , guion y amor for this lovely corner of Europe.

Love this (and the music really touches me, since i'm a fan of celtic music, and i hear similarities with portugese, as i myself am half portugese)! Anyway, i plan to do the camino frances in september. Have you already made videos having to do with the Way of St. James?
Hi. Thanks for the kind comment. Galician music is very important to us, and we love featuring regional artists on the channel. We have actually filmed a video about Santiago and the Way of St James, but we haven't edited it yet. We are very involved in another project, creating a cultural exchange program that brings North American musicians/artists/writers together with Galician artists and Galician culture. We hope to get back to our videos soon.
Similar in Devon in Winter. Nice words, thanks for the insights.
“Si chove que chova”
I am a normal Galician, after traveling through Spain and traveling a little around the world, I have learned to love my land, Galicia. It is incredible for me to see how you love this land and enjoy the rain, that rain that no one wants and that the rest of Spain fears since it usually means sadness. For me, the rain is the memory of days making bread in the family oven, a large wood-burning oven, enjoying fresh, hot bread on cold, rainy days with my grandfather. Every time I watch your videos it makes me think why you have fallen in love with this inhospitable land. You are amazing.
Such a kind and lovely comment. Thank you. We hope to be back very soon with new videos. 💗 Every day we are enriched by being here.
@@JaneinSpain I am not ashamed to say that sometimes watching your magnificent videos, I shed a tear. It is a real pleasure to see how you fall in love with this land, with all its virtues and its defects.
Please keep making these videos! I get my Galicia fix!!
We are launching a big project here in Galicia that has taken up much of our time. But we hope to be back with new videos soon!

having walked the Camino twice, and having surfed in Galicia a few times, how come, I’ve only found your channel now? 👋🏻 ☀️
I'm happy you found us! We hope to be back with new videos soon. xo
Lovely. Hazel looks very much like an Australian Cattle dog... Ci?
Yes! She's a ACD. We don't see many of them here in Galicia.
You made an amazing video. Your way to show my dear land touch my heart
Thank you for the kind comment. We will be back soon with new content. Un abrazo!
👌👍
Pero ¿Qué maravilla es ésta? ¡Qué increíble descubrimiento, qué suerte poder disfrutar de esta maravilla de vídeo y de canal! Gracias, gracias, gracias...
¡Gracias por el comentario tan amable! Besos y un abrazo fuerte. xoxo
Lovely piece of journalism...
Thank you! xo
Wonderful video-poetry. I am amazed how many words for rain people use. As here, in Canada, in the north, the Inuit people (I was told) have similar number of words for snow, which, as rain, comes with multiple personalities. I love your work.
Thanks for the encouraging words! There are a lot of interesting Galician quirks we are working to find creative ways to show you.
Great Video , well done , you should do a video about other popular legend in Galicia , "o lobisonem " the galician werewolf legend , very popular in all Spain and in general in the North of Spain, forget full moon or silver bullets ( its and invention of Hollywood) my father and my brother are galician and told me stories of men and women that turned into wolves , but I let you investigate the myth , good video
Great idea! We'll look into it.
Grazie per il video, Salutamu!
Your love of Galicia comes through in the beauty of this video. It's wonderful. Thank you.

Wonderful content . Loved the music. When I saw you and husband walking down that beautiful path, I saw myself and my wife walking that same path.
Thank you for the kind comment. We hope to start adding more content soon.
Love your vídeos! Galicia is our lusitânian brother! Love from Portugal!Make vídeos about Portugal toooo!! 😂😂
Muchas gracias for the kind comment. We will be back soon with lots of new content. And we will consider a video about Portugal too. We are trying to plan a trip to see the big waves in Nazaré.
@@JaneinSpain Cool! You are very welcome here! ❤️❤️❤️🫶🏻
Que hermosura!
Muchas gracias!
This reminds me of the Ireland I remember growing up in. Thank you ☘️
Many thanks for the supportive comment. Means a lot. xoxo
There are Celtic legends that link Galicia and Ireland, look up the Milesians / Míl Espáine.
Congratulations, a beautiful video with no stereotypes. Shows simple rural life in Galicia and northern Spain. Its done with care and love and knowledge!! ❤
Thank you so much. We love this place and the people and culture. We always let them show us the way. It is much easier to begin shooting a video with a concept and look for footage to support the story you want to tell, but if you want to honestly portray the soul of a place, you can't project your notions onto it. xoxo
Dear Jane-in-Spain and Jones, I happened upon your KZread channel a few weeks ago when looking at items related to Spain, a country whose beauty and people (and food too) I admire. I have traveled Spain and Portugal over the past 15 years or so, and now spend half of each year in a town an hour south of Lisbon, and the rest here in the States. Being bilingual in Portuguese after living over a decade in Brazil, and then having learned passably fluent Spanish through lifelong travels in Central and South America, helps me understand, appreciate, and communicate. As they say, and you both have clearly discovered, language is culture and culture is language. Please do keep producing and airing your superb videos ... clearly works of love, talent and dedication. Your husband's filming & post production and your narration are all top-notch. I will not even try to imagine how much work and time is involved. Abrazos, Bill Stolz PS - Your dog's putting her ball next to you both as you rest on your couch is delightful. My son's German Shepherd does the same. Dogs' hopes and anticipation of the next throw never end whether awake or sleeping.
Hello Bill. Thank you so much for this lovely comment. Means the world. Let us know when you are here again and maybe we will meet up. Un abrazo fuerte.
It turns out that we are both New Yorkers who appreciate the uniqueness of what the Iberian Peninsula, and especially Galicia, have to offer. If I get to your NW corner of Galicia, I will definitely look you two up. Abrazos fuertes.@@JaneinSpain
A wonderful video and one I'll watch many times I suspect. it was funny seeing you watch your Australian bred Blue Heeler cattle dog down a dusty road past eucalypt trees. As an Aussie I did a double take but other scenes and of course the wonderful people and culture were pure Galician. Looks a wonderful place.
Yes, it is interesting, the parallels with Australia. Our Blue Heeler really sticks out here -- people are more likely to have a mastiff or chihuahua. I don't know that we've ever seen another heeler in the 3+ years we've lived here. As for the trees, the Galician people have a love/hate relationship with the eucalyptus. They are viewed as an invasive species as they have replaced a lot of native vegetation but it's difficult to resist the steady income that the groves supply.
This is so wonderful. Your videos really capture Spain in the most beautiful way. I have watched a lot of films and documentaries of Spain 🇪🇸 and I have travelled 🧳 there many times. But with your wonderful narration and poetry and the traditional Spanish folk music. 🎶 So good 😊 please make more. 👍🙏🥳
This comment reached me during a stay in the hospital and it had a tremendous impact on me. You just never know when an act of kindness will have reverberations. I was extremely ill and it was so heartening to receive it. Thank you so much for your gift of appreciation. I'm doing much better now, and we hope to be back soon with lots of new content. Un abrazo fuerte! xoxo
So poetic and warm
Thank you so much, Henrik. Un abrazo.
The name Maria also has an accent over the letter i. I learned this late in life, when I attended university in Puerto Rico. It is my mother's name. Without the accent, the word means dizzy! I almost fell out of my chair in class. I never knew that was what my mother was indicating when she made her "i" look cute to me when I was a child and saw her handwriting!!!!!!!!!
What a great story! We got a good chuckle out of it. Thanks, Nellie!
Beautiful video
Thank you for the kind comment! xo
What a beautiful documentary ❤❤❤
Muchas gracias, your kind comment made my morning. xo
Precioso reportaje. Gracias! 🌹

A Blue Healer almost the national breed of Australia !
We love our heeler, even though she is a challenge! We think ours must have a lot of dingo.
@@JaneinSpain Yes I'm familiar with their ability to ignore you if they want to but they'll break through any fence of gate to get to you.
