I was born deaf in one ear and hard of hearing in the other. My cats (we have four) will approach me on my HoH side and meow loudly. And if I don't acknowledge them, they'll gently touch me with their paw. We never taught them this, it was just something they figured out on their own. (the lamest thing about losing my hearing is that I can't hear the cats purr anymore, unless I put my head on their bodies).

We took in a stray cat. He didn't do any kind of meows. I assume he had forgotten to do so, tho he was very friendly with us. He did do a yowl-hiss when he was upset. He did it one time when my dad was gone and he wanted to be with someone, so came into my room doing that as he was upset and wanted to be with me. He wasn't angry. He was welcome to come in and he curled up with me.

My daughter's cat could "target" her purrs at me or my daughter. It was really funny. We would both be in the same room, but we could tell who she was purring to. And she had so many different kinds of meows and other vocalizations. It was like a real conversation.

My elderly cat trills or chatters sometimes when he sees me come in the room; it's like he's saying hello. He also has many ways of non verbal showing of love, like laying on my chest and placing his paw on my cheek. It's very sweet.

My kitties go on their window seat everyday around noon and make those chirping sounds to the birds looking at their reflection in the window. I've had cats my whole life, several living over 20 years and have never heard this before. I thought it was their own language because they are half siblings and never roamed outside like my others 🤦‍♀️

When my tuxedo cat came to live in my house, I never bothered to find out if it was a male or female. It was here temporarily, for a couple of weeks during Spring Break. That was the first time I heard a "caterwaul." It scared the beejezus out of me! I swear I thought that poor cat was dying! I rushed to the nearest vet, they explained the feline birds and bees. I found out she's a she the hard way. That was eleven months ago. I guess she's here to stay.

I hear most of the trilling from my female black kitty but her brother whose an orange tabby is the most vocal with the long merowels and the louder meows. He gets a little temperamental and makes a sound like he’s doing a long drawn out “no” with his mouth closed. It’s usually when he’s on his back and wants me to give him my arm for his bunny kick time. He’s a big orange fruit case, and he just does wacky stuff while his sister looks at him like he’s a dork. 😉😂🤣

My cat sighs a lot when he's disgruntled, like when I stop paying attention to him and he's not done getting attention yet. My cat also caterwauls, but he's a fixed male. He usually does it after I'm gone for longer than he chooses and runs from the other room to come "yell" at me, or if he's doing what people call "the greyhound run" around the house 😸 Thank you for another video, I always learn new things and it's great to share with my friends so they learn too!

I have conversations with my cats all the time. I know what sounds they like\mimic the meowd they give me. Both my gals love it. They are quite happy. The chats are trilliing\chirping with a higher pitched meow. The gals also sit right on our chests, faces basically just about minimal touching. Opening our eyes to a cat, right there, in our face. They are sweeties. I make a "im not pleased" moan.... One of my gals do it too now. She also snores. She is also 18\19. Her brother was put to sleep a couple months ago, old age, she is having some struggles. We try to help her.

You just reminded me 🤭 I was in Italy visiting family/sightseeing etc. Apparently "Italian cats" don't say "meow", they say "mao". Yes, there's no "W" in the Italian alphabet, even so, I think it would still be "mao"😄 It's interesting how, even we humans, can hear the same thing yet interpret it differently!😸

My cat when she's content will purr loudly. Especially if I'm petting her in her favorite spot. The best spots are chin (obviously. I have never had a cat that didn't love a chin scratch) belly (she's one of the cats that like that region rubbed from time to time) or Paws (don't ask why but she loves a good paw massage) and shoulders (my last cat even loved her shoulders being rubbed so I know it's not just this cat)

I’ve only ever had three cats, and each was very different in the noises they made. My tabby made the most noises - a trill sound to greet me, lots of purring, and occasional yowling and hissing. She very rarely growled - usually only when severely stressed. What’s funny was that she meowed a lot but didn’t make any sound when doing so. She’d make the mouth movements and you’d hear the exhalation of air, but she didn’t vocalize her meows. She did this all the time, as if she didn’t realize she wasn’t making any sound. It would work if we could see her, of course, but if she didn’t get our attention that way, she’d usually get right up in your face and do it again. My second cat was a tortoiseshell. She was a very quiet cat. She purred a lot but didn’t vocalize much. Mewls were her usual sound. A full meow meant she needed something - usually heard when she could see the bottom of her food dish (which wasn’t empty, but rather with a just bit of the bottom being visible, meaning she was going to starve to death). No yowling, no hissing, no growling. She was the sweetest cat, never biting me, never scratching. She would express anger in passive-aggressive ways, usually by peeing somewhere like on a piece of clothing or something else that smelled like whoever she was mad at. Her biggest noises came from her chirping, which she did whenever she saw a bird. If she saw birds through the window or even on the TV, she’d make the chirping sounds. My last cat was a little feral black kitty. It took about four years, but we got her comfortable enough with us that we could open the back door and she’d come inside. She only wanted to sit right up under my chin, and nowhere else. She’d get terrified if one of us stood up, but as long as I was sitting or lying down, she’d be up on my chest, snuggled under me chin. She made no noises other than purring. No meows, no mewls, no yowls, no hissing or growling, no chirping. If she wanted to come inside or she needed food, she’d press on the screen door, causing it to thump against the doorframe. Otherwise, she was almost completely silent. She did yowl if I accidentally stepped on her foot or her tail, but that was it. I think having reached maturity away from humans, plus having to hunt for food, she just outgrew the juvenile cat behavior of making noises. Cats that grow up around humans don’t ever really fully mature emotionally and retain some of their juvenile behaviors. Our little black kitty could catch birds with amazing skill, although once we befriended her she ate mostly cat food. Being completely silent helps in hunting, I’m sure.

A cat has been coming to my house in recent times. I suspect she has an owner, because she is well nurtured, but has not a collar or something else for identification. Anyway, the cat now knows how to enter the house and tends to sleep in the living room and greets me whenever I exit my room, asking for food or attention. I have never owned a cat before, so I am kinda learning as I talk. One thing I know is that cats, compared to dogs, tend to like attention but under their terms. That's why I respect this cat's space. My brother, on the other hand, tries to take advantage of any opportunity to pick the cat up, and whenever that happens she always makes this sound that is similar to what is being described here as a "mewl", but not quite the same. I interpret the sound as disconfort for some reason, but I am not entirely sure.

I earned to talk to dogs. Or to put it more accurately I learned to know what they were saying. I rescued a badly abused puppy mill momma who got to old to be of any use to the puppy mill anymore so they just let her loose to starve. She was in a shelter, so skinny we didn't know what breed she was. She hardly had any hair left and looked pleading at us. She came home with us and although she had some damage due to being in a pen all the time, she was a very good girl. She would sit on the loveseat that was next to the couch I sat on and gaze at me. One day as I was gazing back, she slowly turned her head and looked at a jar we kept dog cookies in. She has asked for a cookie, so I gave her one. This went on for a long time. That was the only thing she had to say for all that time until my husband got sick. He had all his teeth pulled and this made him swell up and had a very bad headache. He was lying down in the bedroom and my dog (Sugar) looked at me. I gazed back at her and she slowly turned her head to face the bedroom. I immediately checked on my husband who had a high nfever. I called for help and I am now convinced I speak dog.

It was an easy decision when I first saw them. Had to have both. They’ve made having my first pair so easy. Took a little longer for my boy to bond with me unlike his sister. But we’re fully bonded now.

You might want to mention this to your vet. My older cat did this also and it turned out to be a thyroid issue. It is one of the signs. After being put on "Filimazole", a thyroid medication, she felt so much better and calmer, and stopped the pacing and caterwauling.

I had a cat that chattered every time she brought a live mouse into the house. It was a good warning call for me as she was bringing them in for my newborn twins (now in their 20’s) to teach them to hunt as she would have done if she had, had kittens. She always looked at them as if to say “well you two aren’t going to survive long, are you?” The twins thought this was hilarious as myself and their elder brother tried to get said mouse out of the house!

One of my cats tends to do a regular meow at my dog, because he sort of adopted her as his mom. He also does a drawn out meow to greet people, and to ask for a person to pet them. My other cat tends to yowl at this cat, as she is very uncomfortable with interacting with cats and prefers humans.

Hissing and purring are done quite often in our home. I have a male cat that loves to annoy my female cat wanting to play while she’s sleeping and it’s not long before she starts hissing and trying to run away from him. Thanks for the heads up though on the sounds they might make after moving cause we’re literally moving in a week and a half. It’ll be the first time for both of them too and my female already hates being picked up and held since she was a feral kitten when we got her. So we’re trying to figure out the best least stressful way to get her into a carrier and to the new home.

a good way to make it less stressful is to get them used to the carrier before you actually need it. Leave it open in a room where they often sit, lure them in with treats, and reward them if they sit in it willingly for a few minutes at a time. That way they won't suddenly have to sit in a scary new thing for a long time when they're already stressed because they don't know where all their stuff went. It might also help to put their favorite toy or blanket in with them, just so they have something familiar nearby

My cat makes a short sharp "yeow" sound when I offer her something she doesn't like and turns away in disgust. she also make the same sound if i touch her on parts of her body, like her belly, that she doesn't like. She also makes an "oorr" sound (my male cat a deeper "orr") when impatiently waiting while I get their food.

Gotta disagree about the caterwaul sound. My cat was spayed but also suffered from quite severe separation anxiety. So when I left for work, she would sit by the door and caterwaul, sometimes for hours. It used to break my heart. It got so bad, I almost got kicked out of my apartment. I used to go home on my lunch break to try and soothe her. Eventually I had to resort to sedatives to reduce her anxiety.

Pls, respectfully, ur cat is ur pet, not ur furbaby, humanizing animals is wrong, cause u can't replace urself as his or her's "mother." We are their owners, their bosses, nót the parents, cause the animal will not see u as their mother.
