Mikaela has an amazing grasp on what is really the point of competition - doing your best, regardless of what the stakes are. No giant self-promoting ego, unlike too many other athletes. Great role model for all young athletes, as well as people in general.

Mikaela’s emotional honesty is what gets me. I’m old enough to be her grandfather, and have enjoyed watching her mature as a human, overcoming the biggest emotional barrier she ever faced, the sudden and very unexpected passing of her beloved father. Living one’s life in public is surely painful and she has learned how to do that without artifice. No doubt the public fascination with GOAT is simply a PIA, and what carries her through is the solid inculcation from her parents of “make a few good turns.” There is a lesson in that, for all of us.

A great interview! So nice to have a chance to hear her express her thoughts and perspective in a more expansive format than the typical sound bites. Such a considered and humble approach to life and performance from one of the best athletes of all time. Just amazing ❤

Mikaela has an incredible sense of self-awareness and thorough mental strength training. I have never seen anyone else doing such a deep self-reflecting, honest, analysis in a casual media interview. She has done that before, right after the '22 Olympics. It is fascinating to hear these details that most other elite athletes would never reveal. Her skiing is unique in balance and grace - seemingly effortless. No one else could touch that. She skis just like Federer plays tennis. I bet in some other universe Shiffrin wins grand slams left and right and Federer is a top ski racer amassing crystal globes. GOATs!

the greatest athlete of all time. After the 2018 olympics when the entire world expected a back to back gold in slalom and after that heartbreak in the 2022 olympics to bounce back in 2019 and 2023 to have 2 of the greatest seasons in the history of the sport with 17 wins, overall globe and 3 disciine globes in 2019 and possibly 15 wins, overall globe and 2 discipline titles in 2023. Increadible mental toughness and talent.

Aline Skiing is one of those few sports where you have to be ok with losing more than you win because that's the reality of it. Even Mikaela has more losses than wins. Focus on the process is what makes her so successful. I believe she is chasing the perfect run, and in the process, she has racked up a lot of wins as a byproduct of searching for the perfect turn, the perfect technique, and the perfect line. That's what it's all about! The Train Don't Stop!!! Choo Choo!

Great interview. As others have said, I found it really nice that Jeremy Schaap didn't interrupt, didn't try to strongly direct the conversation, just asked broad questions and let Mikaela talk. Just like I find it a great pleasure to watch her ski, I also find it a pleasure to listen to her speak, when she's given enough time to expand on some subject. One question he asked was how Mikaela would stay motivated now that with 87, she's passed everyone. To me the answer seems clear. 87 was never her motivation, and neither will 100 be. She is motivated by a love of skiing and a desire to improve. Maybe at some point that drive to improve will get focused more toward speed disciplines...

I’ve watched videos of this young woman’s behind the scenes workouts and life. She has earned her success! Some of her workouts are just mind blowing. She’s a lot more than a great skier, she’s a world class all ‘round athlete. When the public only sees the final result, people think that is all there is to the sport. What these athletes go through just to be competitive, not to mention be successful, is incredible. They pay a huge price and work extremely hard. Us mere mortals can’t appreciate that, but it does help, and is fun, to see some of the behind the scenes peeks into what it takes to become this great. Congrats, Mikaela, on all of your success and hopes you continue to enjoy so much more.

You need to set a goal. I suggest 100 wins. This may take more than 1 season. As long as you enjoy what you do you should continue. You are a role model for youth skiers, winter sports, women in sports, and more. You will be getting more attention than before please use this to promote skiing. Don't forget where you came from.

  • @flipper3691

lol… oh boy, you have an opinion without having touched the skis… I saw a video with Ken Reed and he was skiing like Ted, those guys made the sport evolve and you expect him to stay stucked in a time bubble? Of course he changed his style, of course he keeps evolving. Have you seen videos of Stenmark? He develops skis for Elan nowadays, you think he developed them from his style back in early 80’s? Those guys, including Ted Ligety made the sport what is was today. I think I had a better style that Jean-Claude Killy after 2 years of skiing with my Rossignol foam skis… yeah…Wood was what metal is today. I think you go out of your way to discredit the man and for all he’s accomplished. He is the freaking most successful male US skier, ok Mikaela is now but he remains up there. Bode is 6 years older than Ted… who do you think Ted was looking up to as a model… Frigging Bode… is it a reason to copy him and not evolve? Is it a reason for Bode not to evolve. Patrick Roy is one of the best goaltenders ever…. His style does not even exist anymore. Anyways, I think Bode’s answer was very classy…. You deserve a slap behind the head… 😅. I think you use Bode’s name to generate clicks to a pretty useless video…. He speaks about Bomber and how it was a failure for him… Everybody fails at some point now he has a new project… all good for the ski community. By the way, Ted was involved in a posh private ski resort that failed miserably… do we care about it? Does it take away anything he’s done? Both these guys will always be much better than both of us at going down a hill…. Best regards.
