    Great review! You have amazingly pleasant video footage. And I loved that image of the girl in the salon taken through a narrow space. Black and white made it awesome. I am a complete beginner and this lens honestly sounds super exciting because you can get your hands on f1.8 without donating a liver. So it sounds fun and you can also experiment with MF. Also like that the bokeh is good because I enjoy those kind of shots.

  • @QippysChannel

    Yup this, lens is super fun to use, and sometimes the fact that things are cheap makes it all the more fun to use cause you become more and more engrossed in seeing how far you can push the lens with such little money invested. Btw if you haven't subscribed already do consider subscribing for more reviews like this :)

  • @nimkal

    @nimkal

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@QippysChannel Completely agree! Being able to use a quality image lens with f1.8 at a cheap price makes it all the more exciting! Because I would never consider buying a branded f1.8 with AF which costs hundreds of Canadian dollars, especially for a beginner. I heard the Meike is basically the same except without the soft edges of the 7Artisans so that sounds appealing and they are only $5 apart at $100cad. The only other consideration I have is the Panasonic HH025 LUMIX G Lens, 25mm, F1.7 ASPH for $200cad. But I would be paying $100 extra for AF (and also a better quality lens of course). But it's a decision I'm still trying to make. Do you have any feedback to this? Oh and, I already did subscribe :) Edit: And there is also the Panasonic Lumix 20mm f/1.7 Aspheric G for $217 USED* on B&H. So that's the lowest 20mm f1.7 option I will have.

  • @QippysChannel

    @QippysChannel

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@nimkal wow, the Meiki does sound appealing as that’s not too much more to pay in comparison, As for the Panasonic Lens I have not tried that as I am using the 7 artisans on a Fuji body , so Panasonic bodies is definitely not goin to fit on the FX mount, thanks for subscribing btw 😊

    great review! the images were pretty nice and sharp! I was in the market for a vintage 24mm f2.8 since some can be found dirt cheap but from my experience, the images a vintage lens produces are never as sharp as newer lens technology no matter how cheaply made the lens is. So, thanks for this review! I may just have to pick one up. also, at 25mm, its pretty easy to nail focus.

    I'm looking for a cheap lens like this and it's nice to hear people being so positive about their attributes. But reagarding the 'declicked' aperture ring. I suspect it is a cost cut. Cheaper to produce. As for better for filmmakers, how many non pro filmakers use aperture like that. Not sure of the technique's name, closest I could find is Iris Racking, equivalent to focus pulling. I suspect there's no way to implement this effectively on a tiny lens while filming because it would certainly involve some camera movement or focus pulling anyway. Cameras that actually have this as a feature have geared rings to which devices are attached so that the focus puller can work at an albeit small distance from the lens. I would suggest that a better use of the declicked aperture would be to have a more variable aperture, the spaces inbetween the stops that are normally not accesible.

    It's a great lens for street if you are familiar with hyperfocal distance and zone focusing. However, the markings of this lens (all three: focus distance, hyperfocal scale & aperture) are COMPLETELY off, like way way off. They are so off it seems they are for decoration only. Anyhow, after figuring out where the real F stops are, and marking out my own preferred hyperfocal distance, this lens is great for street, just point and shoot, faster than any AF lens.

    Yeah u are right, the markings are pretty much there for decoration only, one thing that I also love about thiis lens which I didn’t immediately mention in this review is its abilty to focus real close that itvhas a bit of macro capability to it and being slightly wide too u can get really interesting macro’s with showing some of the background too, and I find that so unique about this lens and really makes it a gem in my opinion

    Thanks bro! I wish I could tell however i have not tried those lenses so wouldn’t be a fair assessment I guess. But only thing I can probably say is that if the lumix lenses are to be used on a M4/3rd sensor body then you are definitely goin to get less shallower depth of field that’s for sure . Hope that helps 😊
