Dating these early King releases are tough. For one, Syd Nathan was going through some growing pains trying to build everything from the ground up during the rationing caused by WWII. Second, these early sessions were not that well documented. Thanks to notes written on the original sleeves for this record, I know this was purchased on Saturday, 28 July 1945.
Sound quality was a big deal to Syd. That was one of the reasons he wanted to control as many aspects of the manufacturing of his product possible. For example, this pairing was recorded in Dayton and, thanks to the war, pressed using recycled shellac at the Printing House For The Blind, in Louisville. Frankly, these pressing sounded awful the day they were pressed. So, this pairing would be re-released, using fresh masters recorded in Cincinnati at a later date. It is that release, using the same catalog number, that charted in August 1946, topping out at #4.
To my knowledge, this recording has never been reissued.
