Mike, Lee McCallister Jr here. I'am retired from the Air Force and Lockheed Martian here in Texas. Love all your video's.. Making a 20x20 workshop and I got a lot of good pointers. Although, I would of cut all the my rafters first and then set them in. But I do understand why you cut the ones you made. Lupita and I send prayers out to your family and we just love your grandson. He's a character. God bless, we live in Burkburnett Texas.

Here is one viewers opinion. I ❤️ the fan based intros and outros. It’s a nice seasoning to go with the main course. I’m sure the fans love seeing themselves. I’ve been considering doing one myself but I’m kind of a homely mutt so ... The rest of y’all keep makin em and sendin em. Mike says we need to balance the boat so more outros are needed at this time. Everyone be good and stay well. 😎👍👏

MIke...You impress the heck out of me. So happy for you that you are so close to getting the he-shed done. A lot of the questions I have in getting mine started I learned from you thru the invaluable video. Never take this video down, as it will feed many guys answers in the future. I think more and more people are recognizing the need to burn wood and rely less on natural gas or propane. We burn 100% wood (about 10-12 cords) to heat our house in winter, and turned the pilot light off. Our furnace is about 38 years old, but in usage years is about 5.

Rafter tie downs, pretty good idea. They have done a lot with roof vents lately. I was thinking a couple of spring loaded hinged roof panels like they have on the NASCAR circuit now, that flip open when they go into a spin and head down the track backwards so they don't go airborne!? Just a thought. The snow would still slide off. My mom used to make liver sausage when we butchered Hogs. She used the Head meat, that was boiled off the bone , the liver , and I think some other organs, with a little tender quick. Made into patties and fried with pancakes and eggs for breakfast! My mouth is watering, I miss it a lot!!!

Isaly's Chipped Chopped Ham AKA chipped ham. Cooked in a crock pot with Heinz BBQ sauce on a hoagie bun - nummy nummy. Pittsburgh would like to take credit for Isaly's but I found they started in Ohio. They made the original Klondike ice cream bar. This was the stuff of my youth, way before wings (chicken left overs). Wood shed - I would use 1 1/2" purlins. More screw engagement. Open sided shed on a flat field, on a hill - good chance for wind uplift (you did mention hurricane brackets on the rafter / beam interface). Hey - what is one more log to mill? More fun for Mike. Always look forward to the next video. Love the family and the wood lot management. Thanks and take care.

Wood shed is looking great! Since you like to over build and make a wood tank use 1.5" that way it will match the rest of the building. I was thinking,.... Mike all those first cutoff from the logs with the bark just get the big chain saw out cut them in your normal length for splitting and just split them up, if you did not want to sell them use them for the fires you have at home.

Hi ,Mike. As an old-time sawyer from the last century, I like your learning curve on the sawmill. I have a tip that might help you. I noticed a large amount of mud or dirt on the end if your saw log. I would always get as much dirt/mud off the ends as I could to keep my saw teeth sharp (52" circle saw). That dirt dulls your blade just as quick as what is on the bark Just a thought. Best.

WOW, a walk down memory lane. You mentioned chipped ham. I didn't think that there were any places left to get that. Since Isaly's went out of business. It use to be a weekly jaunt to Isaly's (Jeanette PA) to get some hand-packed Ice Cream, a pound of chipped Ham. and We would get some Klondikes. We would get some Italian rolls from a small mom-n-pop Italian store called DeLallo. DeLallo is now a huge market place. However, that was a lifetime ago. You can't get chipped ham down in North Texas. But we can still get our Klondikes. 🤣

Spoiler Alert Melissa - we have Chipped Chopped Ham in Ohio !! We have bought it since the 1960's. First at the Lawson's Convenience stores in the 60's, 70's and 80's and now we have the deli "chip" or thin slice the chopped ham meat. Anyway, I still vote for the "Downstairs with Melissa" channel name...Thanks, Charlie

Mike, With 16 inch on center rafters 1 inch purlins will suit you fine for a metal roof application. If you had gone 24 inches OC or a heavier roof material then 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 in. could apply to avoid warp and pitch problems.

I would go to 1 1/2" for the purlins. I built a couple of buildings using 1" purlins when I had my sawmill back in the late 90's. I have had a problem with the screws getting loose over the years. I built some using the thicker purlins, and have not had the issue with them. Keep up the great videos.

If the screws that hold the tin down go through the purlins, they will have tendencey to back out over time, and you don't want the sharp points sticking through to cause injury to someone. You may want to make the pulins a little thicker to prevent this from happening. Have a Great Day!

As far as support, the 1 inch is more than enough. However it doesn't provide as much for the screw to bite...which becomes an issue down the road. My 2005 pole barn has spruce purloins (big mistake!!!) and started shedding screws at about 12 years of age. Barns I built before .... and after.... use green white oak, which when it dries put a death grip on the screws and have never lost a screw.

I don't know how your steak salad's are prepared, but steak salad is my favorite food (Thai Yum Neua). They have a good version in some of the Thai restaurants around here (Augusta, GA), but they're all good in Thailand. Maybe we can send you an intro from there after we're able to go back.

nice content ... I would've built a jig for marking the plumb line on every rafter, both for the top and bottom rake ... just sharing a thought, not criticizing ... the jig is made out of two pieces, one the same width as the rafters with the plumb cuts on each end and one piece twice as thick as the rafters, centered and nailed on the top of the first piece ... anyway ... thanks for sharing the build and the experiences ...

I haven’t heard about chipped ham or goose liver since growing up 40 some years ago. One of the things Mom used pack in our lunches was a goose liver or chipped ham and mayonnaise sandwich. Mike, you are debunking the saying “jack of all trades master of none”. Seems like you’ve mastered everything you put your mind to. The wood shed is impressive! Lotta good advice in the comments! Watching from Ontario, Ohio.

Shed Work now coming along. Noticed when you cut up your red pine, that a bunch of DIRT was on the end of the log and could possibly dull your saw!! Keep up the good work!!

Mike, you might could use those first cuts to make hexagonal or hexagonal-ish planters.
