#74: resin sculpture, bending resin
Hello my Creative Friends,
Today we are playing with resin in an innovative and fun way.
Crushed glass resin sculpture with:
Le Rez Star burst = glitzy glam ✨😊✨
Artisue Teal
Artisue bright gold
And my favourite resin- MAD resin. (2 cups)
I got the mat from Kmart- Amazon has similar.
This creation is directly inspired by Sue Findlay- here’s the link to the original for you to view; • How to bend curing res...

Thank you for showing the frustrating parts as well. Helps us learn to figure things out and to know its okay to make mistakes or to not get a concept perfect every time. Although it did turn out perfect. :) Would love to try this if I ever finish my other half finished projects.

Well said, I agree
The front picture is the final result as the final result is examined at the end of the video - and it’s now on someone’s mantle 😊
I love the realism in your videos , as we all learn so much for people like you , the struggle with the cans was great as I know if I was doing it and hadn’t seen you I’d feel so alone , thinking what have I done wrong , so thank you
I've had this video on my "watch later" since you created it, impatiently waiting to get decent resin & the results. Finally, last night I had a test run on a tiny coaster. Oh my goodness, I am so excited to do something large and most certainly mixed media style. That's my go to but since paint pouring has been the rage, I have been wanting to do a collab with all 3 disciplines. Phew, so sorry to ramble on before even commenting about your STUNNING piece of art. That's the result of excitement to do my own.🤦♀️ You must keep creating these and please, please share your process/results. This video has HUGELY (cannot express how much) inspired me!!! Teal/turquoise and all tones of it is the most amazing colour (imho). The way in which you used the crushed glass and blowing it out with the straw? Incredible!!!😲😲 Truly! Thank you very much for sharing your video, I am off to see how you did the glass & any further videos you have made. I'll definitely be sharing this as well. Wow! Tyfs.C 👀👌🐾🐾

I’ve watched a couple videos for resin pours, yours is the only one to make me want to try it. Stunning!! ❤️💯
Love those pieces, just did one of my own after watching Sue as well she is amazing
Its a beautiful color design! Remove from the mold BEFORE you try to bend and wrap it. The mold isn't designed to wrap. Once you remove from the mold, lay it on contact paper, then wrap it around a vase or glass. I actually use bubble wrap because I can roll it up to whatever size I want.
You could try replacing the cans with a piece of plastic drain pipe in your desired diameter, Then you could use small spring clamps to secure the artwork to the pipe to keep it from springing back up,
Such a gorgeous creation, thank you for sharing your creativity!

Thank you and you’re so welcome 😊
Love these pieces, something to keep in mind with resin is that the thicker the piece, the faster it sets.
You could tape the cans together. And I bet some play doe stuck to each side of the can would prevent it from rolling/moving.
That's absolutely beautiful. I would definitely buy that.
YOU are so Smart.... and This is So BEAUTIFUL... Thank you for sharing.

Absolutely beautiful you made it so easy to use I am dying to get the mat and create my own thank you for sharing I so love it.
Stunning piece!
I love this piece! You've given me so many new ideas, thank you for your wonderful video!
I love this! Beautiful!
Wow going off to find out how to crush glass for this. I lampwork glass beads and have lots of different coloured glass rods. So glad to watch your videos. Very nice outcome. I also made my secong one with translucent pigments. Yep MAD resin. Great for hot Aussie conditions. Used it one day -outside like you - when it was 37C. Shortened worktime but that was OK.

Joolz the Jewel I love MAD resin 💖 your lampeork beads will work well for projects like this. I got this mirrored glass from ikea ~ I’ve got it in the garden section of Bunnings too. I did another resin sculpture pour experiment today - I used rose buds and tinted the resin with a vibrant pink and a sprinkling of glitter/ I’ll be posting it 2 days once I’ve popped the mold- that’s of it does pop out- cause I used plastic sheet layered over Aluminium foil - and it shrank and crinkled sigh I ran the heat gun over it to pop bubble 😂😂😊😊 hahaha live, learn and share the learnings I say :)
It's very very pretty..Just a few tips for you I've learned. #1 the mold is just a little too thick is why you had trouble.#2 next time use tape (double stick) with your cans so you can get it to stay where you want it to#3 Really #1 it would have been advised to put a piece of Saran Wrap over it while you're trying to mold the shape. Because your gloves take away from the shine of the resin!!. Hope this helps.
I love it!! But...I think I'd have gone for narrower tins, maybe like a Pringles carton or maybe a tube from Pilsbury dough or an inner tube of a kitchen roll. But that's just my thoughts. Definitely need blu tack to stop round tins/tubes from rolling, tho, or blocks. But a beautiful piece was made. Thank you for sharing with us.
Love this , I subscribed and yes I love Sue also .
Waow! Love your work!!! Thanks for sharing!! 🤗😘
Great outcome. I would suggest, using blue tack to hold the tins each side, then place time on top to make the bend perhaps .
Wow!!! Stunning!!!
I would really like to see a finished product at night with light behind it.

She’s pretty awesome It’s important we acknowledge our founders and inspirations - it helps us all learn and it helps us record the history of resin evolution too.
A larger cylindrical object with some weight in it for stability and leave it until it was completely set & dried would have given you a nice curve that would allow it to stand up after it was completed. They both turned out fabulous!
Thank you for the info 😀
Very nice ! Great job ! And beautiful too ! I can't wait to try this. Yes, I'd love to see your revised video of this technique ! Now that you have the 'curves' worked out, lol! Thanks for sharing this and not cutting out the issues that this piece gave you! Pam

Thanks for sharing! A rubberband ar thes base of the cans should keep them from rolling on you. Really beautiful piece!

Ooooo that’s another great idea 💡 we’re going to have many fabulous ways to try bending our resin
Wedges to hold cans in place, also a nonstick topper to weigh it down like a silicone oven matt lightly oiled
Love to learn about resin. Haven't tried it yet. New subscriber😊😊😊
This real beautiful, maybe you could get a friend to make wooden shape molds to lay them on.

Gayle Osornio my thought exactly! Also maybe hit the cans with some hot glue to keep them from rolling once you get them set where you want them!
When shaping your resin, have you considered turning it front side down so you can limit the number of curves?
Thanks for sharing. This is Beautiful!
Thank you for including the frustrations! And the crushed glass is just ordinary glass?

Lovely piece of work, you could try glue tack putty around the cans to stick them to the table and keep the resin art in place by sticking to them as you shape the bending design.

Hi - I LOVE this and just came across it the other day. I was wondering how large your mat is. I finally found one at KMart and I'm ordering it but would still like to know if it's the same dimensions as yours, because the mat I found is red. I've been searching everywhere and finally saw it there today. Anyway, I look forward to seeing more of your work down the road. Thank you!

Interesting. I've seen other videos where the resin is not in a mold and folds into shape easier. You'll find that the glass is preventing you from shaping it. Just a thought. 😊❤️🙏🇦🇺

Beautiful colors!
Something to stop the cans rolling would make that easier, it looks fantastic thank you for sharing x Edit: blue tack comes to mind 😉 Edit again: or maybe use small objects to bend it round like rolling pins or something
If I make a more rounded on how close can a candle be to it without melting the resin??

Would it be possible to lay the resin out like you did on a cooking sheet and shortly after once its held its shape to drape it over an object with many contours? As if it was creating a mold. Or would applying a higher viscosity resin over the object work better?
I love it!!! Awsome

Extremely beautiful piece. Love the colors and everything. I think I might give it a try. I can't find the mat you used in this video though😥. I'm going to keep searching for one similar. Just my 1 cent
Is the measurement of the silicon mat a 9x13... like a cookie sheet?
Oh sorry. I didn't watch till the end when I asked you about the type of resin you were using, now I see you're using the epoxy one. Congrats for the project. It's really nice and I've found lots of inspiration for mine. Many thanks for your time

WOW! This is beautiful! I love the first one the most! TFS Hugs!
This is Beautiful!! Im wondering tho because i have noticed with my projects, the heat might be helping it cure faster making it harder to work with and bend the way you want. I did a small experiment with 2 pieces and found the one i heated cured twice as fast then the one i left alone. I could be wrong with something as large as your wonderful piece but thought it may be worth a mention. I am definitely inspired by this and would love to try a small one!!
@ArtMaggikwithMaggie

Yes the more resin in the creation and the deeper it is- the faster the curing process. It was also a hot heat and well above the temperature resin is best to use in. Still ... a very very satisfying process that’s inspired so many people.
CREATIVE... STUNNING..
Hello from Spain, I'm new in the channel and in using resin too. Would you please kindly tell me what type of resin are you using ? Is it epoxy resin perhaps ? Thank you for answering

Yes- it was Epoxy - and welcome to the channel 💖 I hope you find inspiration for your own creative projects here :)
Minunat !
Great work! But PLEASE turn your camera horizontal. Thanks.
Is the resin you use a special resin that allows for the shaping?or does the art resin brand do the same thing?
@ArtMaggikwithMaggie
4 жыл бұрын
Art resin will do the same- brands have slight variations in curing times and overall curing hardness - but no need to rush out and get s new brand - try it with what you’ve got!
Amazing
Great piece Maggie. I was thinking that your piece had a little more resin than Sues, and maybe that’s why it wasn’t so pliable. Resin cures faster the deeper it is. Sure is pretty. 🤗🤗🤗

Laura’s Art Corner Laura Usher good point - the second piece I created - I used only one cup of resin- and it was more manuable (is that the word I’m looking for? ) yet it cured beautifully hard by the 24 hour mark. Resin is amazing - no wonder we all love it! 💖
@usherl250

Maluable.means pliable. The deeper the resin, the hotter it gets, which makes the resin cure faster. Also depends on the resin. Very beautiful
I was thinking it might work better if you add something flat like some small wood blocks hot glued to your cans they'd stay in place and be easier to work with.
Or like... Set the cans in egg crate style foam so they don't move around... And then maybe have some kind of armature holding them in place as well
There's a mirror paint out now that a youtuber tried. It worked great. Might I suggest getting clear stones or whatever and spraying a mirror finish on them yourself? Viola--no white or any other back but a less shiny mirror finish..... (the back is less shiny mirrorish finish than the front view through the clear item it's sprayed on)
Hello! First off, I love your videos! You seem like such a sweetheart and your projects are fabulous! I've been searching highland low for a silicone mat like yours on amazon and I cant seem to find anything besides flat mats (no walls at all). I'm not sure if maybe I'm naming them wrong when I search for them? What exactly do you call it? Or even better, if you might be able to send a link? It looks like you have a nice big one.. is it around 16"×20"?
Where did you buy the huge silicon mould from please ? Would love to try this 😀😀 loved the finished results. Could you imagine them with a light behind ❤️❤️
