Thank you, Thomas. That was a great shot at Pontypool...
Nice. It was interesting to see that the brand new OLE has now been installed at Newport (in mid-May this year it wasn’t there, just the structures). Evidently they are relaxed about steam locos running under it - year’s ago, they weren’t. Incidentally, rather long telephoto shots (e.g. around 15 mins) tend to make it look worse than it really is, especially under the GWEP project!
Remember her on the cover of 'Meccano Magazine' I think, lovely rake of blood & custard too!

Hi, I am seeing this tour today (5th September) and I'm wondering how did you get into the station at Newport? There's barriers at all exits as far as I know. Thanks!
I thought she was not allowed on the main line because of her flangeless centre wheels. Have I got it wrong?
Where did it go at Hereford? Did it go off for water? Nice cross with the DRS 66 at Newport.

In to the old diesel refueling sidings...
Been watching a lot of UP4014. In comparison, 70000 looks like a cheetah. Long legged, slim and built for speed.
Being ignorant about steam can somebody explain why, before leaving, a huge amount of steam is vented forwards? Thanks. :-]

When the locomotive has been stationary for a while, condensation can build up in the cylinders. As water is not compressible, it could damage the pistons if not drained away. The driver opens the drain cocks to clear the water (and some steam) from the cylinders when starting to avoid any damage occurring, causing the steam you see in the video.

Nice one...
Their train drivers aren’t obsessed with the train horns like they are in America. In America, they blow it about 10 times over the course of 1 minute for a single crossing, even when they can clearly see no one is coming. It’s the biggest disturbance of common peace u can imagine. They’re designed to be the loudest thing in existence here. It’s so unnecessary.
