That solo is widely regarded as one of the greatest live guitar solo of all time. I was so fortunate to have seen Chicago at Fillmore East about 3 weeks before the Tanglewood show. Terry was on fire that night as well. RIP guitar master. 🎸🔥

Terry Kath was a monster on guitar. The whole band was ultra tight on this performance.

Fun fact: I had to play this song in school in middle school (I play trombone), and I had no idea where it came from until high school when I discovered Chicago. This song is literally a part of the Illinois school band curriculum 😂

Had the privilege of seeming them live many times, but twice before Kath died. I also saw what I believe was Kath's last live performance in the city of Chicago at old Soldiers' Field in the fall of 1977, months before his untimely death.

Peter and the guys went to a Cubs game in San Francisco which the Cubs won. Some Marines took exception to the loss and took it out on some long hair Cub fans. Peter ended up with a broken jaw. He recorded the studio version of this song with his jaw wired shut. He liked the way it sounded so much he incorporated the clenched jaw in his singing style which you can see in this video.

Great reaction, Bob! You're as proud of Chicago as I am of Boston. One of the best guitar solos ever; Terry nailed it! Back in the day, I saw Chicago and the Moody Blues...talk about a dynamite double bill! No one will ever make the kind of music we had back then. Tragedy for both bands with Terry Kath and Brad Delp gone way too soon.

My first rock concert was going to see Chicago perform in Cincinnati in the early 70s. I think I was in either 9th or 10th grade. It was wonderful! I remember walking through the parking lot after the concert with my ears ringing so badly from the level of sound I had been exposed to for a couple hours. I still have some residual hearing loss today - no joke! But I would do it all again if I could!

The best years for music 50’s, 60’s and 70’s and Chicago was that bridge band a 70’s rock band with the horn line like a 40’s & 50’s big band ! I’ve got a young lady you should check out, she performs old school like your seeing here, LIVE ! Travel back to the summer of 1964 with her and take a listen to her cover of the Animals “ House of the Rising Sun “ ! You can find this video on her KZread channel from about 11 days ago, and the young lady is Allie Sherlock ! Take a listen to her powerful, rich, raspy, soulful voice and her beautiful guitar accompaniment , Enjoy ! 🎤🎸🎼

This Chicago was the best Chicago that ever was. After Terry Kath was gone, I didn’t enjoy most of their stuff. But goodness the talent of this band and what they did with Terry Kath puts them at the top of the list for me as an all time favorite.

Terry Kath had a great guitar solo in the song, but the song was NOT written by Kath. It was written by the keyboard player Robert Lamm. He was awake early in the morning staring blindly out the window of a rented Hollywood home seeing the flashing neon lights of the city and struggling to come up with the lyrics for a song. He looked at his watch and it was 25 minutes or 26 minutes to 4 AM. Hence, 25 or 6 to 4.

Actually Robert Lamm wrote the song. You mentioned Terry Kath. Jimi Hendrix spoke very highly of Terry Kath. Terry's voice was quite good, too. He has a 'Ray Charles' type of a voice. Now, there is a Russian group that plays many Chicago tributes... and I tell you: they are AMAZING! They are called, 'Leonid and Friends' - if you watch and listed to 'Leonid and Friends' perform Chicago songs, not only do they play very well, but they could make people want to see 'Chicago'! Now, Chicago is still around, but it is a different lineup from the 60s and 70s. The group has a total of 37 albums as of 11/10/2023. I was a Chicago fan in the 70s and 80s too when they still had the original lineup of the seven which are here at this concert. Sadly, Kath took a revolver to his head, thinking that it wasn't loaded - but there was one round in the chamber...he died in 1978 and only 31 years old. He was certainly a 'foundation' type of a guy for the group.

CTA Baby! This is in fact one of my overall favorite live performances from any band, the whole Tanglewood concert was incredible. I grew up with this song on the radio, but never saw it live until I got older. I kinda wish we had youtube in the 70's, so I could have seen this live as a teen.

I saw a lot of bands in the '70s, but unfortunately I never saw chicago.. and I live in chicago! It's one of those bands that I will never forgive myself for not seeing back in the day. Later on they just made me sad. Such good horns.. good guitar.. good everything. then .. pathetic ..so sad. Always finger check your firearms to tell if they are loaded .. dang Terry!! I LOVED CHICAGO! That was quite the guitar solo! Goosebumping Good Grief! I don't remember that extent of a solo on the record. That could be my bad memory or that it wasn't that long. I loved most of their songs and probably would have loved more had I ever seen them live. Good choice for this week, Bob! Thanks! Can't wait for the next two days' choices. I'm thinking the instrument variety really gave them an extra 'edge'.

From their initial album by The Chicago Transit Authority ( later shorten to Chicago to keep from being sued by the actual Chicago Transit Authority) they were 1 of my favorite groups. This video shows why you should watch live performances over just listening to studio versions, live is where the magic happens. In the 60s and 70s living in Iowa meant a 250 mi. trip to the twin cities, Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago to experience one of the super-groups of the era. Bummer. Love your channel, keep on keeping on. 😎✌🏻🤟🏻🤙🏻🖖🏻

The “path they went down” and got “too soft” I would say had more to do with their new producer David Foster, who is a great song writer and Producer himself but definitely changed Chicago into something they weren’t before.

Producer song writer David Foster wanted them to use strings and less horns and wanted Peter Cetera to become their front man. When the band said no, Foster convinced Cetera to go solo. Then with Terry's death it didn't look good for Chicago. Cetera only had one hit album followed by duds. With Robert Lamm and the horns they have rebuilt several times and still perform and record

After they were a good band, but never like the original. Todays version isn’t very good at all, quite honestly.
