More than 50 years later, still one of the greatest guitar solos of all time...
Jimi Hendrix called Terry Kath the “Best Guitarist in the Universe.” nuff said
None other than Jimi Hendrix once called Chicago guitarist Terry Kath "The greatest guitarist in the universe!"
@1perfectpitch
Жыл бұрын
No. He did not.
@gcarap
Жыл бұрын
@@1perfectpitch He most certainly did, go do some research. In fact there were AT LEAST two occasions Jimi sang Terry's praises, another time besides the one I referenced above, an interviewer asked Jimi how it feels to be the best guitarist in the world and Jimi responded "I wouldn't know, go ask Terry Kath."
@1perfectpitch
Жыл бұрын
@@gcarap He most certainly did NOT. You do your research. The ONLY documented example of Hendrix praising another guitarist was on the Dick Cavett late night talk show when asked who is the best guitarist he said. "I'm kinda digging this Billy Gibbons guy". I've heard the same rumor about everyone from Rory Gallagher to Clapton.
@oldboy7724
Жыл бұрын
He actually said it about several guitarists including Phil Keagy of Glass Harp. Jimi was extremely humble. That was his ultimate compliment to guitarists he admired. He never said it about Clapton.

YES, HENDRIX CALLED TERRY KATH THE GREATEST GUITARIST ALIVE!!
The Late Great Terry Kath on the guitar...
Terry Kath had the soul of a blues man. The voice of Ray Charles and the hands of Jimi Hendrix.

Truth!!
The group, Chicago started in the late 60s - and had quite a combination of instruments blending together. Of the original 7 members: 1) Peter Cetera - was lead singer in many of their songs. He wrote some of the music, and he also played bass guitar. 2) Terry Kath - played lead guitar, and actually was lead singer in a few of their songs. His guitar-playing was noticed by Jimi Hendrix who spoke very highly of him. Terry Kath's voice was quite unique also - he was a fan of Ray Charles, and when he sings you might notice that it sounds kind of like Charles. 3) Robert Lamm - played keyboard, and was the lead singer on many of their songs. Lamm wrote many of their songs and was gifted in songwriting. 4) Danny Seraphine - drummer. He definitely could play the drums! 5) Walter Parazaider played the saxophone. 6) Lee Loughnane - trumpet player. 7) James Pankow - trombone player who also wrote some of their songs as well. Each musician wasn't limited to the instruments that I had just stated, but those instruments were the ones they played the most. The band has had many changes over the years and decades, and exist until now: 11/12/23. They have had 37 albums from late 60s until this date of 11/12/2023. There is a current Russian group that plays many Chicago songs, and they play them very well. That group is called 'Leonid and Friends'. Leonid and Friends also play a few 'Earth, Wind, and Fire' songs - and they do it very well! Enough said.
Terry was awesome. One of the best guitarists ever. Definitely a great loss. This is a classic video. I saw them with the Beachboys together.r
CHICAGO, "25 OR 6 TO 4". From the Chicago Live at Tanglewood concert. One of the best Bands of the Late 60's too the Mid 70's ,leading up to Guitarest Terry Kath's death.. more of this era's Chicago magic, "BEGINNINGS", "MAKE ME SMILE", "SATURDAY IN THE PARK", "DOES ANYBODY REALLY KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS?", "I'M A MAN", "DIALOGUE PARTS 1 AND 2", "QUESTIONS 67, AND 68".
The solo in the studio version isn't nearly as long, but it is one of the most epic axe pieces in history. It show off all of the different things Terry could do in an amazing way.
Once seen never forgotten. RIP TK. Guitar was just an extension of his body. Thanks great reaction!
You need to get their 1969 debut album as The Chicago Transit Authority and cue up "Poem 58". It is 9 minutes of PURE FUNK led by Terry Kath on guitar, Danny Seraphine on drums, and Peter Cetera on bass. It will blow you away!
Tanglewood is the super famous venue where the Boston Symphony Orchestra gives sold out performances. It has been around for a long time. Tanglewood is a music venue and festival in the towns of Lenox and Stockbridge in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts. It has been the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra since 1937. Tanglewood is also home to three music schools: the Tanglewood Music Center, Tanglewood Learning Center, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. Besides classical music, Tanglewood hosts the Festival of Contemporary Music, jazz and popular artists, concerts, and frequent appearances by James Taylor, John Williams, and the Boston Pops.
And Rolling Stone magazine doesn’t even include Terry Kath in their list of Top 100 guitarists. Absolutely criminal.
Remember when music made love to us! Thank you, Chicago
SHREADIN HIS GUITAR TO PIECES 🙆🏼♀️🙆🏼♀️🙆🏼♀️🙆🏼♀️🙆🏼♀️🙆🏼♀️🙆🏼♀️🙆🏼♀️🙆🏼♀️🙆🏼♀️🙆🏼♀️🙆🏼♀️🙆🏼♀️
I worked as the brass tuner for Chicago, making sure the spit tubes on the horns were empty and polishing the brass on the horns. Great group of fellas.
that is considered Terry Kath's most iconic performance.
Check out ‘make me smile’ this from debut album - Chicago transit authority.. they insisted on it being a double- unheard of for debut and they had to agree to lower royalties.. they also insisted on the next 3 albums being doubles also.. that’s how much great music they had

Hi, Please add your suggestions to the googleform. You can find the link under every video. Thanks
Loved your reaction and that’s terry kath on Guitar you should react to some more Chicago songs they were more of a rock band in the 60s and 70s until terry Kath died and then in the 80s they became more of a ballads but were very good too Peter Cetera took over lead singing and became the Master of ballads
TERRY KATH IS LEGENDARY GUITARIST
You hear people talk about a band being "tight", well these guys were SO tight that Terry could start strumming his axe perfectly timed to when the others would finish getting set up and come in with him right on time, in sync, not breaking rhythm with each other, gliding into the song as smoothly as an Olympic ski jumper sliding down the ramp to the gold medal flight.
Lmao..is called music before technology..I love both..
I've seen Chicago 6 times in concert and this is by far the coolest version of this I've seen. Awesome thanks for reacting
Terry Kath really lets loose on South California Purples live at At Carnegie Hall .
I saw them twice in concert.
Kath was in the same leagues as Hendrix and SRV. RIP.
Jimi Hendrix told Chicago's publicist that Terry was a better guitar player than he was. They actually had plans to do shows together. When Chicago made the studio album with this song on it, Cetera's jaw had been broken and he had to sing it through clenched teeth because his jaws were wired shut.
If you want to see Terry Kath sing and play guitar, check out Chicago "Color My World"
I saw Chicago in concert in 1977. Best concert. Horns are amazing. You should check out the band, Tower of Power. From same era
@juniorjohnson9509

Tower of Power is still together and touring.
Hendrix thought Terry Kath was the best player out there back in the day.
I was there. Absolutely insane concert!

Wow I wish I was you that day
Hendrix said he was the best he’d ever heard
If you liked this one you should check Ekseption with Toccata (4:08). A live video from 1973 with the solo, not on guitar but on analog organ. A Dutch rock cover of J S Bach...
Yes Highly! Full brass section and all the regular rock instruments!
Same concert Make Me Smile
Chicago doc is on prime now, free with ads.
Someone asked Jimi Hendrix what it was like to be the best Rock Guitarist, He said go ask Terry Kath
You need to check out the entire Tanglewood Concert. Amazing show from Chicago. Oh, and Chicago's catalog is deep! If you like this, check out any of their 1970's albums. If you like sappy, pop ballads, you'll like 1980's Chicago.
Yes, they are kings of variety. Keep going down the Chicago rabbit hole.
Say hello to the DePaul University music program ! It's the largest private Catholic University in North America and yet another proud gem in the crown of the City of Chicago. Like much of our city's greatest institutions , they don't care if you are of their founder's religious preferences but offer excellence in an urban environment that adds to the educational experience, particularly in music.
Peter Cetara on vocals.
The title creates a lot of confusion for people. I believe the story is, simply, about "sitting cross-legged on the floor," trying to get through the need to do some songwriting, at 25 or 6 minutes till 4 am. As you seem to appreciate good guitar playing, i'd like to request: Stevie Ray Vaughan's TEXAS FLOOD Live at the El Mocambo. The video is available here on YT. I would assume you've been hammered with requests for this video, and may already have reacted to it and i just missed it. But if not, i surely would love to catch your response to it. Thanks. Peace -
Terry Kath, guitar God ! Overshadowed by the "band concept" as such. If Hendrix said Terry was the best, then he was, period.
Same concert. "I'm A Man." You will love it.

Hi Bryce, Please add your suggestions to the googleform. You can find it under every video. Thanks
Sadly the guitarist died much too early. The entire Tanglewood concert is on KZread.
I know this will shock you but they're from...... Chicago😊
First I thought you were Irish, then British, then Australian, finally southern US. Maybe Polish.
Jimi Hendrix saw Chicago in LA and said Terry played better than him and he invited them to go on tour with him!
25 or 26 minutes to 4 am...
Nice reaction, great talent. So sad he would accidentally shoot himself in the head showing people his gun was unloaded. Forgot about the one in the chamber. ☹
If you want to see this done live as close to the original as you can get. Then the Russian tribute band Leonid and Friends is te ticket. They are currently touring the USA.
With CHICAGO if you don't know shit you're in for a treat
Do peter frampton. Do you fell like we do. Live
Could I request one of Chicagos 80s balleds ether You’re the inspiration or hard habit to break or hard to say I’m sorry then you can see how great Peter Cetera’s voice was
unfortunately, the guitar player died in a gun accident in seventy eight.
Have you ever seen Lavia Strangiato by Rush live
