Hey Andrew, great information to know! As an overtaxed, unhappy guy from expensive cost of living California, I hope to move & relocate to Texas next year. And being a GOP-Conservative I would look forward to the friendliness culture of Texas with its mostly conservative views in politics.

Was stationed at Reese AFB in the early '80s and eventually settled in the Central Valley of CA after my USAF career. Living in an Ag town here for the last 30 years, we are looking at Texas to retire on a couple of acres. Btw, a "ranchette" acre around us goes for $275K just for the land. Been to DFW and Houston last fall and going back to Houston, Austin and SA in May, just to look around some more. Thanks for the "NEED to know" segment.

It's only more favorable to not be taxed on your income if you make over 100,000$ a year. But ALSO keep in mind, that Texas gets a lot of it's taxes from sales tax. Compared to Missouri, where I live... we may have a state income tax, but that means you only pay more if you EARN more... and that works far better for rural people, who tend to have lower incomes and own lots of land. Texas has a sales tax that is 2% higher than Missouri, and that impacts everyone, even the poorest citizens. Texas ALSO pulls in 50 million dollars a year just from hunting licenses. In Texas, you are required to have a hunting license to hunt on your OWN LAND, and that does not occur in any of the surrounding states. so, I suppose you have more freedom compared to California, but to us Missourians, we don't look at it as being so free. And that freedom is not tethered to a political party, as we've had a Democrat governor for 12 out of the last 20 years.

I'm about to be gentrified out of my house in the next 2 or so years Soo, I'm looking to move to Texas and would like a small town like mine (we also ride horses to school here in Oregon) The politics is also more inline with 98% of my Conservative Libertarian views and it's closer to where my ancestry came from...However.. My family is of the low income verity so I'm lookin for an affordable town possibly east Texas so I've heard? And I'm renting now, been renting here for around 17 years with my wife and kid whose freshman now...The freedom is a huge factor in the choice as well as the weather...I hate the cold and love heat. We love animals, I got three cats, two are rescues, we're involved in the local non profits helpin the folks in our community with whatever they need...I don't want to move But I don't have much choice sadly the Californians have priced us out of our own community. Nothin affordable if for rent and homes cost over half a mil around here.

Ignore this video of fluff. This is just a commercial for their service and presents vague info at best. If you're moving to Texas you need to take your time, do the research and figure out WHERE makes sense for you based on your career, desires, education, social preferences and many other factors. Duh! If you're from California, think about how different a dozen locations are there and apply that to Texas. Once you find the right city region, then you have to find the right Zip code. Your experience will vary wildly depending on the people you move next to. These guys seem to have no clue about important factors like this. I'm a native of DFW but have lived on 3 continents and traveled 70 countries extensively. A successful relo is more than just packing up and saying "let's go there!".
