No I’m on my 3rd golden retriever. I’m 64 and have always had a dog but never two at the same time. Violet was 12 in June and I got Tilly last Christmas Eve and she was 8 weeks old. I broke my right ankle last November. I would never have gotten her if I knew in the middle of January I broke my left ankle so bad I had to have surgery and lots of screws and plates, in the hospital for 2 weeks and was in a wheelchair until recently I got on to my walker. I made a mistake of not hiring someone to walk her. Now she is way too strong for me to walk her and needs a very strong person to not get dragged around. I feel like a very bad dog mama😢. She hasn’t been on a walk or ran free, ever. I can’t drive yet and my car transmission is shot anyway. I had hope to train her to be my next assistant dog but I haven’t been able to do stuff I did for my other dogs like I socialize at the library, beach etc. I’m on social security for my spine and a little for being a widow.

How is it going Herbert? We have a 10 wk old rottie pup now that is nipping pretty bad. Restraint and collar hold doesn’t seem to make it better.

France. Not new (I am a huge dog lover) but want to do this one right this time: I am getting a new puppy -- he is 5 weeks old right now and at a friend's with his mom and his 4 litter mates. I'll get him end of August. I can see him everyday. Had several puppies -- all kinds -- who turned into absolutely wonderful dogs but instilling obedience was not my forte. I always felt like my dogs did what I needed them to do (for safety reasons mostly) because they always tried SO HARD to make me happy but not because I made it clear and simple...Never used food rewards, ever, and I feel I should have. Too many misses. Most important this time: no running off too far during forest or beach walks! Looking forward to your advice. You guys are absolutely awesome -- I have watched one of your videos. You explain everything in detail with the WHY. So important. And you are so knowledgeable!

Really good tips. I'd also like to respond to Norma regarding trying to convince her parents to get a red heeler/border collie mix. Do you plan to take the dog with you to college? If you've promised your parents that you'll properly train the dog, etc., it wouldn't be fair for them to take on the responsibility if/when you leave home for an extended time. In general, not specific to you, when the entire family isn't on the same page of owning a dog, it could be problematic in the future. Of course, if your parents are willing to accept the responsibility, then definitely enjoy your new dog.

Thanks so much for all your videos filled with great tips! They are so helpful and entertaining. (And I must say some of the tips apply to my two young human children as well, so bonus I'm getting parenting training! 😉) I'm getting a new Golden Mountain Dog (Golden Retriever / Bernese mountain dog mix) in a couple weeks, and I'm so excited to have a furry friend back in the home since our previous golden mix Shelby passed away 2 months ago. We adopted her from a shelter when she was a little over a year old, so it will be a brand new experience starting off with an 8-wk old pup. Guess what! I'm bringing a new puppy home on Saturday!🎉 I have been watching your videos and they are all great but I have to say this one was really awesome! It has been 9 years since I've had a puppy( I've had two senior dogs in the house and one just passed.😢 The other one thinks she's still a puppy!😅) Anyway, ever since we decided to get this little munchkin, I've been a little overwhelmed. I'm like a new mom in the nesting phase of pregnancy! Lol I have to do this and this and that and I need this and this and that....😂 Your video really helped get me organized and helped me feel a little more confident about how we're going to do things. We made a lot of mistakes with our other dogs especially the first one but I feel I'm really ready with this one. Thanks! 😊

What I'd like you to do guys is to make a video of your puppy when it does make those puppy mistakes. For example when it runs away from you, or runs towards other distractions. Basically when it's behaving like typical puppy. It would be great to see how you react in those situations. How do you discipline or encourage puppy in those "mistake" times. It would be really helpful.

New...hi I have puppy now 17 weeks .. she is charcoal lab .we love your videos. She has learned already sit, stay,down , come to her name both verbally and with hand signed. She has never had accidents in kennel....Her huge issue is eating her own poo.. i only have her walk in our yard . I pick up as much as I can and even tho she knows leave it . I have to repeat it so much .

My lab breeder told me to start the sit and stay and come … at 3 months.. it worked like a champ… they have a lot field trial awards .. i started the recall in the hall way ……earlier I did create the drive with the bumper without knowing it …. But I duck hunt and the lab I have ok working on hunt trials ..you right .. with the socialize the dogs ..

How do you size a crate for your puppy/dog. For example-if I know my dog will grow into a medium size dog of about 40lbs, do I purchase a crate for that size dog or do I start small and eventually get a larger one?

Hi. I am French, but I am living i Norway now. Thanks a lot for all of your videos, especially the ones about using a crate. But I am having a problem I cannot see a video about with my 12 weeks old puppy. He has periods when he really tries to bite at me and I cannot seem to have him relax quite enough. He also growls and bark when I say "no" to him sometimes, and redirection is not working. He has been with us for about 3 and 1/2 week now. I tried to restrain him, but he is calm 10 seconds after I free him, and tries to bite or growl at me again. I do not feel that I have a lot of quality time with him because of it. He is really food motivated, so training time with his food is great, handling exercise with food is also great.... just this frustrating biting and nipping. Some videos that could help me? Thanks for all the great content you published ;)

@@sofiakritikaki9130 It is over now. He is 17 month now and he is much calmer. He was actually not getting enough sleep when I wrote this comment because of the two cats and my boy who were too much for him. He had to learn that it was OK to move to another part of the house to sleep ;) Good luck!

I kept my LGD penned near the farm animals when he was a puppy. He only got out when I was at the barn doing chores. He killed two chickens by playing with them when they snuck into his pen! I gave a sharp scold if he romped around the birds. As he grew, he learned to leave them alone.
