    This is great! Thank you for sharing Victoria! I recently decided I wanted a career change, I love learning about anatomy but can’t stomach seeing wounds. I’ve been searching the past year for what my calling really is since my current field of work, behavior therapy, isn’t what I want to do forever. My mom had been in the medical field since I was a kid and she always mentioned medical coding or billing and I never thought about it. Once quarantine hit, I had the time to reflect and realized how well I might be for this field! I decided to go through a program from someone who is certified through the AACP, since the community colleges in my area paused the medical coding program for now. I’m very excited to start and love that this is a field that promotes continuing education!

    How do you know when to look for a Guideline?

  • @ContempoCoding

    @ContempoCoding

    4 жыл бұрын

    Good question! Get familiar with the ICD-10-CM guidelines. Read over them a couple times. The key is not to memorize them, but become familiar enough that when you're coding for, for example, sepsis you remember there's a guideline and can find it and read over it to assure you assign the right code. CPT guidelines are usually right near the codes you're looking at, so you can check at the front of the section to see what the guidelines for code application are.

    Hey Victoria I want to say that I have recently gotten interested in this career and am open to changing my goals because of pandemic-related frustrations. I am an extrovert, so I love being around people. That said, I do not mind being alone for hours if I really have to. Would you recommend this job for someone with extroverted tendencies?

  • @ContempoCoding

    @ContempoCoding

    3 жыл бұрын

    We have lots of jobs for introverts and extroverts. There's always lots of jobs for behind-the-scenes introvert types. BUT, because of that there's always a big need for coders that are willing to work closely with providers, really giving them expert advice, building those relationships so they can partner and maximize revenue and really be part of the team. Those coders are harder to find, so those are usually the better paying positions in medical coding.

  • @ContempoCoding

    @ContempoCoding

    I believe the AAPC issues a "certificate of completion" after you finish the course. Once you schedule and pass the CPC exam they will send your certificate in the mail. All the job hunting tips I have are on this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hI2MsqNwotXAeto.html I have a video with a recruiter with some job tips that I'll be posting on Tuesday.

    Question. I just finished the program thru approved school by the AAPC. Since the book changes every year and I have not scheduled my cpc exam - I’m still studying. How is that going to affect me since I have the 2020 books. Thank kindly. Can I schedule my exam in 2021?

  • @ContempoCoding

    @ContempoCoding

    3 жыл бұрын

    For all AAPC exams you can use the current year or prior year's books. You cannot use the next year's books. So yes, you can schedule your exam but you cannot use any 2021 books until January 1 of 2021.
