Should i persue Medical coding as a career if AI may take over?
Thank you I will be taking my exam soon
I have Asperger’s syndrome. Do you think this is something I might be able to do?
Oh my gosh! I have just started a class and this was so confusing to me. This explained it perfectly!
My wife is studying medical coding in hopes of improving her career outlook. Now, we are inside the Technological Singularity, which is just fancy sounding words to say that we have a surge in the rate of development of science and technology, like when a car is accelerating from 1 MPH to 2 MPH to 4 MPH to 8 MPH. This acceleration of the development of science and technology will not slow down until it gives us scary levels of advanced technology which will seem like science fiction but will be a reality and it is coming so fast society is not preparing well for it, thus it is going to be very disruptive. Who knows exactly what that disruption will result in, but the disruption will increasingly happen and not stop until the rate of development of science and technology not just stops accelerating, but slows down so that society can adjust to all the new things we learn and create. One of those disruptions is that AI will, eventually, be able to 100% replace human workers in medical coding. However, I am hopeful that this will not happen so fast that my wife will just waist learning to become a medical coder because within a few years she will be replaced with AI. Why I am hopeful for this is that medical coding is an important enough thing that even as AI becomes good enough to do it well, there will be a requirement of human medical coders to oversee and manage such AI. This could mean that fewer medical coding jobs will be available, because one human using AI medical coding tools will be able to do the work of multiple people who do not use those AI tools. I think my wife is above average and thus will end up being the more valued employee to keep. What concerns me more is when I see outsourced companies using AI tools who are offering experienced medical coding positions for minimum wage, or worse over seas companies like Medicodio which appears to be located in India and the only medical coding position I see open is for someone with 8 years of experience and they must work on site in India. Given they are offering cloud based medical coding services using AI with human oversight, well, I just find this concerning. Problem is, every choice seems scary. So, I think one has to make a choice and then work hard to be good at whatever choice they make. Our choice is for my wife to become a medical coder and she is working on getting the certificate now.
Another question i have is the how to interpret the operative report for sequencing the cpt codes?
I want to challenge myself I probably won’t finish in six weeks but I definitely want to be sitting for my exam in 3 months!
i went on the aapc website and they’re charging about 2600 for something. i don’t know if i need that or not. how much is the aapc membership?
on the website, it says that you need 2 years of on the job training. so how can you get it in 3 months? im confused.
I am taking the Aapc course i been struggling with the cardiovascular system especially the Cabg they had like 6 diagnosis on it that you had to fill in was crazy until you pointed on the icd 10 chart the and the muscle skeletal section i think my problem is i am ocd and over think everything any advise on how to break that habit i want to take my test and did the course 2 times now i am taking each section doing the aapc and feel i still dont get it. When you said don't think you know it all i think help me to stop being a perfectionist. Never again will i do self pace course
I have a CBCS from the NHA. Is it one of those that isn't up to par with what employers are looking for? I've only had the certification for a few days, but I haven't seen any job postings that specifically say "CBCS" and I'm getting worried about my future in this business.
Ok so i totally was able to keep up until the last question. It jumps from 99199 in my book directly to 99500 and idk what to do😢
Thank you so much. I need that because this will be like my second time going back to school for my CPC and I really do want to pass.
Do you have any guidance for when the patient has seen the provider when the provider worked for a different group, and is now seeing the same provider at a new group? Would that be billed as a new or established patient?
holy hell....I am watching your video bc I am literally on the verge of homelessness, recently separated, single mother of two. On the spectrum myself... I love you girrrlllll! congratulations! I am so proud of you! you go girl! and I am coming I hope I'm next for success, bc I need it! I wanna work for you, just knowing where you come from! If you need help, I am ready!
Hey Victoria! I love your videos. I just completed the CPC course and I am preparing to take the certification exam, however, I still need a lot of help with finding the correct CPT code. Any insights would help me greatly. Thank you 😊
Loving the shorts. Great reminder to use index for procedures.
WHAT ABOUT US CITIZENS WHO WANT TO LIVE ABROAD
Not my area of expertise, sorry.
Thank you it helps me a lot as a new guy in job,
What do the hours look like or is it based on completing the work load? And are the hours 9-5 or can you chose your shift or time of day that you work typically?
Most medical coding jobs are the same as standard business hour jobs unless you are working as a 1099 where there is often more flexibility.
i still don't understand 😭😭😭
Is the e&m calculator on the actual Cpc exam?
Yes, it is.
My thanks for explaining this
Do you have to know how to type ?? Type words per minute!?
Yes, you must know how to type the same as any office job. There is no requirement to type a certain amount of words per minute and that fast typing wouldn't be considered important by employers.
Thank you for your videos I just got out of school and feel I didn’t get a good grasp on medical coding your videos have helped me a lot!!
This was a great interview! I am finishing up my last two coding courses. I am eager to explore this new career change for me.
@contempocoding, I was wondering am I allowed a magnifying glass on the CPC exam? I am "legally blind, best corrected with," but I still don't have 20/20 WITH my glasses. Thank you!
you are a savior
Hi, quick question. Are Medical Coders who work from home required to be up to date on their vaccinations? I'm looking into Preppy but not willing to get anymore immunizations. Thanks.
It depends entirely on the organization's individual policy.
Hello im from Georgia I have been wanting to take the CPC exam can you recommend me on a good practice test for studying.

@@ContempoCoding thanks
Do you teach for certification examination
Due to the extremely high demand and my desire to focus on my channel, I do not directly teach the CPC curriculum as I would not be able to provide the quality needed without hiring and managing a large team (which I suck at). I do partner with Preppy, which helps out all my viewers with getting amazing training and customer support. Another great video! I just passed my CPB exam on Saturday. Starting CPC class soon!! 😊 These videos have been WONDERFUL. I love being a channel member.
I am currently a Certified Medical Assistant, but I'm *strongly* considering going for CPC! Thank you for all of your wisdom you've shared here!
This has been very helpful to me. Now im understanding how to know what to look up.
Process of elimination is the best advice for the exam! I took my CBCS exam today! I am stalking the NHA site waiting for my results. Thank you SO much for your videos! I went into the exam facility with confidence because of the details that you shared with your viewers. Thank you so much!
just discovered you. great videos!!
Hi Victoria, I’m really glad I found your channel. Would it be ok to use icd 10cm hospital 2024 for my cpc test? Thank you for all your help
Do you prefer the ebooks or the paper books?
No preference.
I need some advice: I took a course for Medical Billing and Coding in 2020. I never took the exam to become certified. I would like to take the exam now but should I take the course over again since it’s been 4 years or just get a tutor/take a refresher course to help bring me up to speed?
Given that it's been a few years since you took your Medical Billing and Coding course, a refresher course or working with a tutor might be a great idea to brush up on the latest coding standards and practices before you take the exam. This way, you can target any updated areas and ensure your knowledge is current without needing to redo the entire course. Good luck with your certification!
I completed the Preppy program in May. Step 4 is LOOOONG but Core of it. Currently trying to practice coding, and get my AAPC Certification
I’m thinking of doing it. How much is it?
So the codes have to be memorized?
There is no memorization in medical coding as it works be impossible to remember tens of thousands of codes.
@@ContempoCoding got it!
