    My wife is studying medical coding in hopes of improving her career outlook. Now, we are inside the Technological Singularity, which is just fancy sounding words to say that we have a surge in the rate of development of science and technology, like when a car is accelerating from 1 MPH to 2 MPH to 4 MPH to 8 MPH. This acceleration of the development of science and technology will not slow down until it gives us scary levels of advanced technology which will seem like science fiction but will be a reality and it is coming so fast society is not preparing well for it, thus it is going to be very disruptive. Who knows exactly what that disruption will result in, but the disruption will increasingly happen and not stop until the rate of development of science and technology not just stops accelerating, but slows down so that society can adjust to all the new things we learn and create. One of those disruptions is that AI will, eventually, be able to 100% replace human workers in medical coding. However, I am hopeful that this will not happen so fast that my wife will just waist learning to become a medical coder because within a few years she will be replaced with AI. Why I am hopeful for this is that medical coding is an important enough thing that even as AI becomes good enough to do it well, there will be a requirement of human medical coders to oversee and manage such AI. This could mean that fewer medical coding jobs will be available, because one human using AI medical coding tools will be able to do the work of multiple people who do not use those AI tools. I think my wife is above average and thus will end up being the more valued employee to keep. What concerns me more is when I see outsourced companies using AI tools who are offering experienced medical coding positions for minimum wage, or worse over seas companies like Medicodio which appears to be located in India and the only medical coding position I see open is for someone with 8 years of experience and they must work on site in India. Given they are offering cloud based medical coding services using AI with human oversight, well, I just find this concerning. Problem is, every choice seems scary. So, I think one has to make a choice and then work hard to be good at whatever choice they make. Our choice is for my wife to become a medical coder and she is working on getting the certificate now.

    I have a CBCS from the NHA. Is it one of those that isn't up to par with what employers are looking for? I've only had the certification for a few days, but I haven't seen any job postings that specifically say "CBCS" and I'm getting worried about my future in this business.

  • @ContempoCoding

    Yes, you must know how to type the same as any office job. There is no requirement to type a certain amount of words per minute and that fast typing wouldn't be considered important by employers.

    Due to the extremely high demand and my desire to focus on my channel, I do not directly teach the CPC curriculum as I would not be able to provide the quality needed without hiring and managing a large team (which I suck at). I do partner with Preppy, which helps out all my viewers with getting amazing training and customer support. You can find out more by signing up for my free career masterclass: www.medicalcodingmasterclass.com I think you’ll find it very helpful! I need some advice: I took a course for Medical Billing and Coding in 2020. I never took the exam to become certified. I would like to take the exam now but should I take the course over again since it’s been 4 years or just get a tutor/take a refresher course to help bring me up to speed?

  • @ContempoCoding
    @ContempoCoding5 күн бұрын

    Given that it's been a few years since you took your Medical Billing and Coding course, a refresher course or working with a tutor might be a great idea to brush up on the latest coding standards and practices before you take the exam. This way, you can target any updated areas and ensure your knowledge is current without needing to redo the entire course. Good luck with your certification!
