Big problem I have today are "low waisted" pants. I miss the high waisted pants I grew up with and wore for decades. I'm 52 not 17 and low waisted pants that most stores carry today do to fashion trends is not flattering at all to middle aged men or men who don't want to be dressed as a teen ager.....

I'm 26, and I hate low-waisted pants. Like modern fashions in general, they are built to suit one particular body type which most people don't have.

There are still companies where you can get pants with a traditional mid-highwaist! Mister freedom, Darcy clothing, monsivais co, Nigel Cabourn, and even the dickies 874 pants all have a more traditional rise in many of their pants

should've mentioned cuff width. Since thats also important when talking about trouser length. You can get away with a longer inseam if you trousers are wide. If theyre skin tight you have less wriggle room and need to be precise on trouser length. And even for my own preference, even if the trouser sits correctly onto the shoe, it may look too short when walking about. Another point too is choosing the correct rise trousers. Wearing low rise trousers with a sport jacket looks wrong and I have fell for this mistake in the past, even though it was chinos. If youre like me, my legs are on the shorter end. Im 5'9.5 tall (i know specific lol) and my perfect inseam length for a no break look is 28 everytime. I benefit from high rise pants to make my legs look longer. rather then short and stubby

I am very conscious of the hang of my clothes, thus I keep what I put in my pockets to a minimum. For pants, right front pocket gets a handkerchief and loose change (usually under a dollar) front left is for my key chain with three keys. That's it for pants. I always wear a suit so the left inside pocket gets my cell phone and the right inside pocket is for my wallet. My wallet is a coat wallet, the pro is no bulge, the con hard to find. With the exception of my pocket square that is all that goes into my pockets.

  • @themoderndandy713

I've got a similar story here. The only thing my trouser pockets hold is my pocket watch when wearing a two-piece - I found that carrying around a handkerchief just doesn't provide enough use to warrant it. (After all, I doubt most women really want to dry their eyes on something that was sitting in your pocket for a year.) What uses do you find for such an item? I'm legitimately curious. My suit pockets carry my phone, keys, and a fragrance atomizer in the interior, and in the front pockets, I carry my wallet and earbuds. I do struggle in those select times when I don't wear a suit, though. I just end up dealing with the overstuffed pockets, because carrying around an attache case to put your earbuds and keys in is simply overkill.

This comes from my female point of view [Showing my age here I suspect!] : - Good pleats matter a lot; no pleats is fattening and terribly unsexy. Waist at the proper waist position is sexier than low waist especially with even the faintest hint of a paunch. This is true for the kilt as well. Trousers that are too short are so horrible that I prefer slightly too long in preference to the current shorter fashion. Jackets with a non-intended horizontal crease in the back at the waist level are fattening.

Fantastic insight as always! The next pairs of trousers I plan on getting will definitely be more tailored so I wont have to wear a belt with them. Currently my lightweight Wool pair fits perfectly without the need of one so hopefully I can get the belt loops removed if tailors do that as well. Most of the year it's hot out here so I've shifted to Chinos and Wool trousers. One is Summer weight as I mentioned above and the other is Performance with a bit of stretch so they do an excellent job of keeping you cool. Not really sure if I should invest in a pair of linen trousers as well since Wool is more wrinkle resistant but I suppose it could be a nice addition since I also wear Linen shirts. Appreciate the content glad to support.

Almost all my Dress Trousers are now either light, medium Wool with a few Chinos. I realized in wearing good fitted trousers i soon had to upgrade my bulky wallet to a slim sleek Credit Card like leather wallet. I wear my wallet in my front pocket now. That made easier as my Dress Trousers actually have an inside front right pocket inside of the pocket where the wallet perfectly slides into. So it holds the wallet perfectly in place. It completely makes a difference in how I now sit in a chair as well a sleeker wallet inside of a pocket in my front pocket. Most my Trousers are pleated so they have extra fabric in the front with the drape. However, get your Trousers tailored to fit you properly. I buy all my Trousers unhemmed and take them all to tailor for fitted fit.

Trousers that are too tight in general ("I can't breathe" pants). Trousers that gather up like a wrinkled paper lunch bag at the ankles. Trousers with too low cut a waist. That horrid trend I see these days where the trousers give off the impression of looking like jogging pants instead of crisp uniformity. Sagging. Or hanging below a big protruding belly, in particular.

This is an excellent video as ever. However, there is a key part missing regarding trouser length and that is the width of the opening! The opening width dramatically affects how long or short a trouser can be without causing a break or pooling at the feet. It is why many trousers are cut short these days because the opening is so slim that it would result in a very unsightly break as it is isn’t big enough to drape over the shoes. Likewise, if you wanted longer trousers like the late Duke of Windsor, where his trousers seem to cover much of his shoes in some photos without a trouser break, it’s only possible due to the trouser opening being much larger than what is normally seen off the rack today.

I don’t mind a bit shorter trousers. But for a summer suit. without socks and with double monks. Usually, I always wear socks, but its the only exception I take here. Also a try out. The suit has pleats as well. Its very out of the comfort zone, but I like to wear it :)

I constantly have an issue with trousers being too long on me, because I'm a bit wider than the average guy of my height. So over the years I just learned how to hem my trousers. So whenever I get a new pair (typically when an old one tears beyond repair lol) I just ignore the length and focuse on the fit everywhere else, mainly my waist area

Maybe just a little bit of balooning at the waist should be excused. After all, people need pockets they can place their hands in without extra work. The real issue with pleats is if your hips are wide in the first place, pleats will always have a tendency to make them look wider.
