    fun fact: there's a german children's book called Der Struwwelpeter and the outlast bit in this video very much reminded me of one of the stories in it. In the story Konrad gets told by his mum to stop sucking his thumbs, warning that if he kept doing it, a tailor would come and cut off his thumbs - so once his mum leaves the house and he puts his thumb into his mouth that's exactly what happens. The tailor barges in with comically large scissors and bam, no more thumbs to suck.

    Fun fact about bees: Depending on the species, they can be detrimental rather than beneficial to pollination. For instance, in my native Ohio, European Honey Bees have shrunk local pollinator populations to such a degree that it's harmful to the environment. This is because local prairie pollinators are more efficient at pollinating plants in their biome whereas invasive species like the honey bee fight them for resources, pollinate less efficiently, and directly kill the locals in tiny turf wars. Save the bees, absolutely; however, spare a care for the genocide the honey bee has wreaked on the humble bumble in the name of human profit.

They remember your face and inform the hive if you're friend or foe?? AND THEY CAN BE PETS?!?! WHAT ARE THESE INSECTS EVEN PLAYING AT HERE!?!??!

    Potentially important note: if you lose a finger or some such and want to save it to potentially reattach it, DO NOT put it on ice! Ice is cold , cold enough in fact to do damage to your cells, potentially killing them. What you want to do is wrap the removed part of you in a warm, damp cloth to keep it moisturized and WARM.

    Keep it moist, yes. Warm-NO. That will speed up decomposition. Instead, DON'T put it directly on ice because yes it will freeze the cells and damage them further. What you DO want to do is use a moist sterile dressing to wrap it up and put it in a clean plastic bag and THEN put that bag in a bag with ice. The other bag and dressing act as insulation to prevent the freezing of the tissues whilst allowing them to keep moist and cool to slow down cell death Source: first aid instructor for 4 years and wannabe med student lol

    not only "damage" but straight out destroy, at least from my very small knowledge of a normal human who doesn't know crap about the human body, blood is a liquid (wow) and liquids when frozen aren't exactly flowing through and might get stuck and basically destroy every of your big and small veins in your finger, from the ones you can see through the skin to the microscopic ones, which I think it is kinda too much for any doctor or machine to "fix"

  • @Handles-Are-A-Stupid-Idea

    @Handles-Are-A-Stupid-Idea

    2 жыл бұрын

    Uh, no. You wrap it in DRY cloth, then put it in a waterproof bag, and then put it on ice. You simply don't want the ice directly touching the tissues because that is a level of cold that does damage. A little insulation goes a long way. This is what we do on ambulances when we can find the part that got amputated. Warmth promotes bacterial growth and thus decomposition. You still want to keep it cold, just not frozen. The ONLY time you use a wet compress is for eviscerations, because organs are meant to be wet. Why do you think we put organs in ice boxes? Don't give bad medical advice, it's dangerous as shit. I don't even know how you got warm. A cursory google search is enough to prove that wrong.

    Subnautica. Late in the game, when your helpful PDA with the soothing calming female voice warns you that it detects foreign bacteria in your body and advises that you self-scan with your handy scanner tool, upon doing so, you are treated to an animation where your character looks at his hands in shock as gross green pustules are now growing on your hands, just like you've seen them on various fish now and then. They've somehow grown _through_ whatever scuba gear you're currently wearing, even! But hey, the game takes pity on you, and near the end of the game, treats you to another cutscene involving your hands, this time you stick your hands in goop that looks a lot like glowing excrement and said green pustules melt away and your character admires his now-clean hands. Also, there's the part where an alien machine jabs a pencil-sized spike into your wrist to check if you have the disease while you try to shut the gun tower down that shot your ship down at the start of the game so you can leave the planet safely. Go there before getting cured and you'll have to do it twice, and the second time your character tries to dodge the stabs but the alien computer tricks you and stabs you anyway.

    Its funny how this was always a trend, but it only came to the spotlight with RE7 and 8 because of how abused Ethan's hands are at every single cutscene. Btw Devil's Kiss is hardly the worst thing to happen to Booker. Did you see how disgusting Undertow is? And I dont even have trypophobia.

    there's two bits in subnautica that come to mind: when you first get to the quarantine enforcement platform, try to turn it off, and it fucking stabs you through your scuba glove, and then later in the research lab when you pull off your glove and see that you're infected.

    If it helps any, for the Mantis Blades, they probably amputated your entire arms and replaced it with prosthetics. Assuming that wasn't already done to V, since they have a sub-dermal implant used to directly plug into terminals to begin with at the start of the game, and at least partial hand prosthetics installed near the start when Victor gives V their first bit of cyberware.

    Little thing I found out in EMT classes. Never ever put a severed digit, (finger, toe, etc) directly on ice. Cellular death will start on contact! Use seran wrap or a plastic bag between the severed part and the ice as a barrier to keep it viable as long as possible! So by all means get a cut off finger on ice but NOT directly on ice!
