@@azuredragoon2054 It actually took me more tries to beat Alecto than Malenia. I prefer mid to long range combat and using status when possible. Alecto’s arena is tiny, you can’t use Spirit Ashes to draw agro or flank, and she’s immune to every status except frostbite. Don’t get me wrong, Malenia was definitely the harder fight, but I encountered her much later with my Faith/Arcane bleed build more fine tuned.

It’s less of a traditional summon, but I love how in Majora’s Mask the moon crashing into Termina is a serious apocalyptic event, and then in Hyrule Warriors slamming the moon into your enemies is a super normal thing that you do all the time.

To be fair the HW one is only about the size of a car as opposed to the skyscraper sized structure it was originally.

The best thing about Ark is, if your party has an HP Regen effect active, it will continue to apply during the ludicrously long attack animation, likely causing your party to be fully healed by the time it’s over. This makes Ark a powerful attacking spell, *and* the best healing spell in the game.

Came here to say the same thing. The animation was a full 90 seconds long. (Yes, I timed it.) There's a reason it was called Eternal Darkness. Of course, Ark was locked behind either the hardest or second hardest bosses in the game, so if you had Ark, you didn't need Ark.

That giant apocalyptic laser in the second half of Ark's animation was only for a single HP, too. The rockets are Boss!Ark's reduce-to-1HP move that he spams when you fight him. This makes Ark the most ludicrously over-the-top attack in the series.

Yes but damage wise end game I used No mage in the party besides if I really needed to heal AND do 9999 damage at the same time I'd absorb the Doomsday spell in the final dungeon AND USE it on every boss their starting with the bosses you fight AFTER Doomsday is usable.

Too bad you can match arks damage with a cheaper summon not even that hard you just need a lot of ore. Dragon crest, theivery, frog drop, shock, flare, and holy need a little work to match but are all cheaper than Ark though as said it allows you to do stupid healing and damage at same time.

if you use the passive "Boost" the laser beam comes out of the other side of the planet

For context on Satanael blocking damage: that was Almighty damage, which is strong enough to essentially erase someone from existence and even ignores an item that bends the laws of the universe to make you immune to all damage.

Honestly, the P5 boss fight and it's conclusion are probably my favorite gaming moment of the last generation. The battle, the build up, the music, the fn badass "Pillage him, SATANAEL!" command to shoot god in the face point blank. Just perfect.👌💚

Satanael isn't technically the one who heals the party or protects them from the enemy's attack, that would be the will of the people. That same will is what supercharges Joker's persona to become this version of Satanael. In New Game+, you can fuse Satanael and use him in battles like a regular persona, but in that form he is tiny, about the size of the big version's head. He's still a large persona, but nowhere near what he is in the final battle against the god of control. But yes, after fighting through the rest of the game, the vindication of making that shot is so amazing.

Going from Earth to the Sun (which really isn't even going across our solar system, since that distance is less than 1.67% of the width of our entire solar system) is like not moving at all when you zoom out to the scale of our entire galaxy.

Probably the best part about Satanael is that he is the awakened form of your starting persona Arsene, who not only doesn't level up along with you like the rest of your party, also stops getting moves at level 7ish.

You can fuse Arsene using other persona's though and get strong stuff for Arsene through this. And actually the Satanael during the fight with Yaldabaoth is essentially just using Arsene to act.

@@emeraldhoarder2298 And that is true of all Personas that any Wild Card has. They level up more slowly and only learn moves for 3-7 levels after their starting level. Arsene is no different. And if you want to get technical, Satanael is the third form a Arsene (fourth in Royal).

Golden Sun was my childhood and what got me into loving jrpg's. What an amazing series, filled with plenty of other over-the-top summons.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, which came out for the Nintendo DS in 2010 had all the summons from the first two games plus some multi-type djinn ultra powerful extra summons thrown in. The problem with the huge fuck off summons like Iris and Charon though is that you can only get them after you clear the game's final boss and then go on to visit the post game areas/manage to beat the hard as nails optional superbosses. After all that it's kind of a shame that you don't really have anything left to use your big fancy mega summons on, (nothing that will survive them anyways) especially since this installment got rid of the arena mode where you could put them to use in a boss rush gauntlet or battle aginst all the games hardest enemies one right after another. Still a fun game. Highly recommend if you somehow haven't played it as a die hard GS fan.

Yeah the most op thing about those summons is that they all do %health damage to enemies. This means that it doesn't matter how much health the enemy has, you'll always be able to hit like a truck.

Maybe someday. 'Til then I guess I'll just have to listen to the bitchin' soundtrack some more. Boss Battle #1 from Dark Dawn and Doom Dragon Battle from Lost Age go hard. I still have such nostalgic feelings when I hear Wintery Imil from Golden Sun.*sigh*

Don´t forget that you then get to steer Jubileus past all the planets in the solar system before slamming her into the sun. Gods, I love that franchise so much.

that Ark video was quite funny, all those over the top explosions, doing just a little more dmg than that sword hit afterwards.

Even before they nerfed the Mimic, Black Knife was my absolute favorite summon and one I stuck with for the next 2 playthroughs.

@@hughsmyth9524 I actually don't there there is a single enemy in FFX that is immune to Zanmato. First time I fought Penance I Zanmato'd for the win in fact! @Setzer Steel Also for FFVI, Bahamut was not the best summon. That title would likely belong to Crusader, so powerful that it hurts your party too!

Black Knife Tiche is also really good at dodging and she doesn't actually do bleed damage but takes off 10% health of the boss/enemy and ALSO does a %max health drain constantly throughout the fight. The good part about it is it's not a status effect like poison. It's rapid and has no downtime or need to proc and also can't be resisted in any way. It's like the godslaying black flame but all the time and stronger.

My favorite thing about the scene where you summon Satanael to kill Yaldaboath is that immediately after shooting off a Sinful Shell, Satanael strikes the "Sexy cowgirl who just shot her revolver" pose. Dude has the hips for it and HE IS WORKING IT.

Wow golden sun, final fantasy and persona in one video. That's a good day

Also, Judgment from Golden Sun is just really cool. I know others are cooler but the fact that it is so easy to pull off and fun to watch makes it a true standout.

Always happy to see Golden Sun in the list, I might have gone with Apocalypse over Iris, though. In game effect, Iris rules as overkill summons, granted, but as the animation goes, Apocalypse doesn't even shoot at you target with its giant hand-cannon, it is merely the area of effect of a blast that seems to destroy the whole world that damages them. If that ain't overkill, I don't know what is.

Golden Sun is still the greatest set of games that I've played... incredible story

I love that the best summons range from "chick with a knife" to "demon good with a hundred food long gun that kills other gods" Games are amazing

Now I remember why I don't know what Ark even does or any other summon in FF9. 4800 damage for 2 minutes animation compared to 4100 dmg from Zidane in half a second...

Gotta love the light melee hit at 8:42 dealing nearly the same ammount of damage as the world-ending explosion caused by the summon.

Omne's appearance was cool, but it doesn't quite measure up to the nonsensical scene of Sheba punching Jubileus so hard her soul was launched out of the statue she was inhabiting, teleported to the outer edge of the solar system, only to fly back INTO the solar system, dodging every planet in the process, and crashing into the sun.

Summoning Ramuh in Final Fantasy XV was fun, especially against the Jabberwocky. And summoning the 7 deadly sins in Bravely Second.

I loved Golden Sun Lost Age in middle school. I don't think I ever got Iris though.

Don't feel like checking the first video to make sure, but Iron Bear is most likely missing. It's in a different league, though. It's the mech Moze can summon as her action skill in Borderlands 3. She can spawn it and drive it around for a while, with any skills to improve it, of course. But she can also make it small and autonomous, walking around blowing things up on it's own for a while. Or keep it big, and make it stay after getting out herself. And add a turret she can climb in on top. And a massive shield. But wait, you may ask, what does it attack with ? Well what about whatever you want ?? Two arms, two choices. Missiles, melee claws, acid railguns, grenade launchers, flame throwers, explosive miniguns, nukes ? Sure, that and more. Also it's always OP. It scales with difficulty, on top of your level. So when you decide to get into max difficulty, and none of your gear can handle it, Iron Bear can. And boy will he. And while it may not one-shot the final boss (not far to be honest but that's besides the point), it is more importantly super reliable. You can shorten it's cool down, get out early and recharge it while in the turret, have the cooldown ready before it leaves (by jumping in enemies' faces and EXPLODING), or make it last stupid long, while in or after leaving. It protects you, allows you to get health back, can get you through every threat in the game besides falling in voids and the physical manifestation of Death ... Out of every summon this video presented I would take Iron Bear.

Spiritual successor to Deathtrap from the second game. You can cheese so many boss fights by just letting Deathtrap handle it. And since Deathtrap’s kills count as your kills, it’s easy to come back with a second wind thanks to him. Robot buddies are the best.

I'm amazed they didnt include anything from disgaea. The top two levels of every element are summons, as well as true final boss and Tyrant Flughude, though those are more transformations i guess, and ... there are a lot.

I love these summons videos. They hit my interests 100%. I love the other list features as well, but these are at the top!

When I hear "overpowered summon with a really long animation," I think Eden from Final Fantasy VIII. The only summon with an attack animation so long that not only can you fully boost it to 255 power with the square button, you can go get a coffee afterwards and still get back before the explosions are over.

I tested it you can get up to 255, mess it up purpose and still have enough time to reach 255 again.

I love how in the Final Fantasy 9 entry all of that spectacle deals 4300. Then Zidane pops up, attacks normally and deals 4100.

A good one one is Thanatos from Chaos legion, a hack'n slash with summons that help you all the time. Thanatos could literally solo the last boss alone, and it has 2 or 3 phases

Exactly but Erdekaiser costs TOO much MP to spam it after you unlock it in the first game it always does 9999 damage but Episode 1's last boss I believe has more then 9999 HP BUT in Xenosaga Episode 3 it does a fixed 99,999 damage to everything and theirs only 1 boss in the ENTIRE 3rd game that has more then 99,990 HP the 2 Omega bosses. But the 2 Omega bosses 99,999 HP and 999,999 HP respectively in Xenosaga Episode 3 are basically Gundam/Mecha battles so you can't even USE the Erdekaiser summons against EITHER one and both have attacks that 1 shot the entire party. As for Erdekaiser Sigma has a boss it only has 100,000 HP but in order to even fight it in the first place all 3 Erdekaiser summons not only must be gotten but in order to break the 3 shields it has to DAMAGE it in the first place you need to all 3 summons against it. But the summons are 1 TIME ONLY use per battle so its not possible to kill Erderkaiser Sigma WITH them.

If we're talking OP summons in the Golden Sun series, I'd go with Daedalus over Iris. For its main attack, it does a Macross Missile Barrage similar to Ark, but you also see a massive ICBM careening off into the distance. The small missiles do moderate damage for a summon, but you are left wondering what the internet hype for this attack is. That is, until the end of the next round, when the big missile hits and does about 3-4 times the initial damage.

Speaking of absurd Final Fantasy summons, Bahamut zero from ff7 was pretty O.P. too. Not quite Knight of the Round level, but a close second for sure.

The planet buster bahamut summon from ff7 was indeed epic but knights of the round takes the cake for me and keeps running since it can oneshot any boss except the 2 new ones in the english version only who each have a specific counter to it since knoghts is just that op.

@@thefinalpotato8607 I remember that summon. To be honest, ff7 starts off a line of crazy OP summons in the series. We had powerful summons before that point, but from 7 forward we got increasingly over the top that broke the broke the mold entirely. Let's not forget the likes of Bahamut Fury from Crisis Core either. That one wipes out a freaking moon and blasts you with the results.

Best part about Ark in FF9 is if you got the full summon animation (rather than the quick one) and you have Auto-Regen equipped on your team, they will all almost always be completely healed by the time the animation ends.

If there were one Oxboxtra member who *can't* deliver the line "I dress terribly" with any credibility, it's Andy

The yakuza summon made me think of the wild crossovers that some games (especially multiplayer ones with cosmetics) have. Theres an elite skin for Rainbow Six Siege that gives one of the characters a Majima skin and its amazing

FFX's Yojimbo should have been on this list. Dude instakills everything in this game if you're lucky enough (or know how to abuse the mechanics)

Even if you manipulated everything on Yojimbo to it's most perfect outcome, he still only uses Zenmato about 10% of the time at best vs the hardest category of enemy. You effectively need to access the RAM of the game to garentee it, or play a frame perfect game from a save point.

Not only is Satanael's arrival and size epic, he has freaking theme music.

Respect and much love for that Golden Sun entry 🤙

While not technically a summon, the appearance of the shade lord at the end of the pantheon of hallownest in hollow knight is definitely overkill

Bayonetta doesnt summon being made of her hair, those are real creatures and they are binded by her hair so she can control them

fire is often a symbol of destruction... but at the same time also a soothing warmth alot of times...so a summon related to the sun would obviously make it feel super rejuvenating for you... but absolutely burn the hell out of the enemy...

that was an ABSOLUTELY LUDICROUS video. and I LOVED IT!

I love Knights of the Round in FF7 because it's such a funny visual to imagine all of King Arthur's knights coming together to smack the snot out of a lowly Shinra guard

Or use it on ANY chocobo since after KoTR hits those they will still run away and Midgar Zolem can't be killed PERMANENTLY in FF7 either.

Yes I'm so happy to see a Golden Sun entry!

Some of the best summons for me, were the ones in wild arms 5 after you leveled up your mediums to somewhere around level 70 or 80. The sword medium summon was the best way to finish off the final boss. You could even sync it perfectly to the music for the finale if you activated it at the right time.

I feel the dragon Tyris from the Golden Axe franchise calls in deserves an honourable mention at least.

Me and Mimic Bro were best pals all through Elden Ring from the second I got him, till Elden Beast, we had the envoys long Horn and blew bubbles on everything melting bosses instantly. We were the over levelled Bubble Bois and life was good. Towards the end a lot of enemies and bosses were holy resistant, but luckily we had a spare +10 blasphemous blade. Mimic Bro, I'll never forget you.

Black Knife Tiche helped me defeat Malenia. You know, the one who's never known defeat.

Edit: Made this comment before being reminded Eden was in the original list.... Silly me. Well you're right that these lists wouldn't be complete without a Final Fantasy entry, so eventually you need to get around to Eden from FF8, which turns the entire planet into a magic railgun, fires your enemies into a nearby galaxy (which of course explodes, duh), and then they land right back where they started at galaxy-explosion velocity in a summoning cutscene so long you can use the Boost skill to max, intentionally fail it twice, and get it to max again before the damage is actually done.

Didn't someone at SE say something along the lines of "When you Summon, the enemy is taken OUT of the game's dimension" as an explanation on why summoning something like Bahamut Zero or Eden doesn't wipe the planet out for the bad guy?

For Golden Sun, my personal favorite will always be Judgement. A simple world ending death cannon, but still.

Ark: Unleashes an entire armada's worth of firepower for 4,800 damage. Zidane: Casual slash for 4,100 damage.

Narrator: How's Bayonetta going to get out of this hairy situation? Bayonetta: I'm going to summon a giant creature made of hair.

In the lengthlily titled Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King, you're able to tag in your team of legally distinct not pokemon to take over a battle for you until they are knocked out (in which case you tag back in) or your enemies are, which is enough to mean you don't really need to do anything against a lot of the attacks by random scrubs that relentlessly pop up and grind you down at you as you navigate between settlements

Incidentally, party member Yangus in the same game also has a skill which summons a horde of old men to attack the enemies. It's called Golden Oldies.

@@MichaelWarman I mean, it was the capstone of the Humanity tree, which was pretty weird overall and somewhat underwhelming power-wise so I suspect a lot of people have never seen it.

Super fun video, and I haven't played most of these. Have you done a "7 most overpowered weapons" list? BFG 9000 from Doom, Pesticide weapons in Earth Defense Force, Crissagrim from Castlevania Symphony of the Night. . .

Kinda surprised that Let Me Solo Her wasn't mention or Izanagi no Okami, also Andy the game is called Golden Sun what did you expect her to do, drop the moon on the planet.

FF IX is such a great game, and in that franchise the OTT summon is always a guarantee.

little thing to note about the ark summon is its the only summon in the game that is by technicality able to break the 9999 damage cap tho it reqires a bit of grinding if memory serves, but at its absolute peak it can hit twice for 9999 damage each hit

Best part of Ark from ff9, it's full animation takes so long that if your characters have regen on it could fully heal from single digits since regen keeps going through the animation lol

My favorite missed mention is Skies of Arcadia's Blue Rogues, which excluding Guilder's ship Claudia would be the only summon in the game (and that one counts as a skill). But it's a progressive one because it grows in length, and power for each crew member of a different kind that you have. You get it about midway through the game and it's ridiculously weak considering it costs a fully upgraded spirit meter (1 of 2 of the game's special attack currencies), but by 80% of the story completed it becomes a minute long summon that at least takes up half a bosses health (including the final boss) and completely heals your party. It's a nice reward for exploring and grinding... and for spending a considerable amount of turns building up your spirit meter.

“Mr Slave who… wait can we show this?” *proceeds to show it anyway. Andy pls lol

Ark is cool for a Final Fantasy summon, one of your few methods of Dark-Elemental damage, but FF8's Eden takes the cake for giant explosions from outer space. Not only does she nuke the enemies into a black hole from cyberspace, she's one of THREE attacks in the entire game that breaks the 9999 damage limit, and you have to steal the summon from Bahamut. So not only can you get the most powerful summon in the game, you get a pet dragon on the side whose own attack ignores magic defence, and comes with some powerful refine abilities.

Eden from FF8 will always be my fav op summon.
