7 Bosses That Were Immediately Killed by a Much Scarier Boss: Commenter Edition

There’s no better way of making a boss seem intimidating than by having it smash flat the boss you thought you were about to battle. So effective is this reveal that it turns up in a bunch of games, as previously presented on Outside Xbox. Now consider these seven further bosses that were easily destroyed by a much scarier boss, as suggested by the boss-savvy watchers of the previous video!

There is this rather embarrassing one in Hollow Knight. Early in the game you meet this guy named Tiso who is searching for The Colosseum of Fools, a place where mightiest warriors cross their blades. You meet him several more times as you explore, each time he boasts and shows disdain for the world around him, and your final meeting takes place when you finally find that Colosseum. You enter it and meet him in a break room, him boasting and all that. You go to fight and when you come back he is gone. You can later find his corpse in a deep chasm beneath the Colosseum. He tried his hand at fighting there and was immediately killed and thrown out. The humiliation continues however. You see, one of the DLCs for the game released a location where you fight nothing but bosses. You can fight them in individual or you can fight them as a Boss Rush in Pantheons. And in one of those Pantheons you meet Tiso again, he brandishes his weapons and just when you think you'll finally get to fight him... he is jumped on and killed by the actual boss. Poor Poor Tiso, he now exists as nothing more than something for another boss to casually kill before he faces you.

Ridley was actually never in charge of the Space Pirates. It's mother brain that's in charge. Ridley is just the second in command. @@ericb3157 I’m not even that much of a Star Fox fan, but even I still thought that was kinda cheap. At least in Mega Man, where you always know that Dr. Wily (classic series) or Sigma (X series), having the same main bad guy in each game is kinda funny because it’s become somewhat repetitive, basically becoming a running gag, and you can see signs that it will happen in some respect (except X6; while I like the reborn Sigma as a frail zombie-like being, it was kinda unnecessary and shoehorned in and definitely not predictable outside the fact that Capcom apparently can’t make a Mega Man X game where Sigma _isn’t_ the final or penultimate boss). Same with Dr. Eggman being betrayed by his creations and/or betraying Sonic & co. once the current threat is dealt with. And at least, outside of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, each classic Mega Man, Mega Man X, or Sonic game (for the most part) _feels_ like a game made for and part of their respective franchises even if you were to change the characters in them. With Andross, though… Like, of the 8 games in the Star Fox franchise (not counting the spin-off with security cameras or ports for Virtual Console, NSO, or mini consoles but including the originally cancelled and until-recently-unreleased Star Fox 2 as well as the 3DS remake), four of them (the original, Star Fox 64, Star Fox 64 3D, and Star Fox Zero) all tell essentially the exact same story with minor differences (and not even in a “the plot of this game follows the same general trends as this other game in the series” kind of way but in the sense that it’s literally the same story being told slightly differently (if not exactly the same), not even taking place in a different time), and two of them are essentially the only ones (outside of Star Fox 2) to receive remakes and ports at all (because apparently remaking or porting any GameCube games-aside from Pikmin 1&2 for the Wii, Metroid Prime 1&2 for the Wii, Mario Power Tennis for the Wii, that one Donkey Kong platformer with the DK Bongos for the Wii, two of the three GameCube Zelda games for the Wii U, the original Luigi’s Mansion for the 3DS, and Super Mario Sunshine for the Switch (as part of a limited release, which is ridiculous)-is just too much for Nintendo to be capable of, but not remaking or porting NES, SNES, or N64 games for the umpteenth time). Star Fox 2 itself also had Andross as the main antagonist and final boss, too. The two that didn’t have Andross (Assault and Command) weren’t even being developed until after Star Fox Adventure was released, and one of them (Command) was really weird from a story perspective, though the other is actually really good. So that’s 6 out of 8 games that have Andross as the final boss, 4 of which are just the same story with some variations. On top of that, since Star Fox 2 wasn’t officially released at all until the SNES Mini was released and Assault, Command, 64 3D, and Zero weren’t even in development yet, when Star Fox Adventure was released, the only two Star Fox games that had been released previously were the original and Star Fox 64, and Star Fox 64 was itself basically just a remake of the first game. Star Fox Adventure was the first Star Fox game to be released that actually told of events beyond what happened in the first game. There was no reason for Andross to be the final boss. And it was obviously shoehorned in to justify making it a Star Fox game. Like, outside occasional minor appearances from or references to Peppy, Slippy, Falco, and that one guy who’s the commander or whatever, the only things-in terms of plot, gameplay, or visuals-that made the game a Star Fox game prior to Andross’s sudden appearance was that you played most of the game as Fox and occasionally got to fly an Arwing at certain points. You didn’t even get to use Fox’s Blaster! Yes, I know it wasn’t originally a Star Fox game, but it’s just way too obvious that it’s really just a Star Fox game in name only. Throwing Andross in at the end only makes it even more painfully obvious that all the Star Fox elements were shoehorned in without any real care. There was no build-up, no hints that, even in hindsight, could lead one to see this coming or see it as a logical progression. And while that can be good for plot twists, it was too abrupt for its own good, and it also doesn’t work as fanservice because everything else about the game is so unlike Star Fox (not to mention that there were only two other games in the franchise at that point along with two appearances in Smash Bros., so there wasn’t much to pull from for fanservice to begin with and it was much too early to depend on such fanservice to critical aspects of the game like a plot twist for the final boss). On top of that, you don’t even get a chance to face the antagonist every other part of the game was building up towards: General Scales. While that worked for Conker’s Bad Fur Day to some extent since that whole game was about subverting expectations and parodying 3D platformers and mascot platformers (and it led to a pretty neat movie reference, which is something else that game loves to do), Star Fox Adventures takes itself too seriously for that to really work. Maybe if you had a previous fight with him before or he changed sides when Andross betrayed him and helped you out, maybe it could have worked better than it did, but as it stands, Andross’s appearance just makes you frustrated that you never got to fight General Scales at all after all that build-up. It was super anticlimactic, and the payoff was not at all worth it. And the mechanics of the boss fight was using the Arwing. Y’know, that gameplay style that rarely got used earlier in the game? Yeah, you have to use it for the entirety of the final boss battle. Rather than making it feel more like a Star Fox game, it only makes it even more apparent how tacked-on all the Star Fox elements were.

The only thing the Destroyer could actually destroy is a wet paper bag. And Commandant Steele, apparently. Embarrassing way to go, quite frankly.
Mike's commentary inspired me. I now want to see a game i which the actual lore of the game is that a world populated by robots or somesuch are literally filled with numbers, and that is what they bleed as you hit them. When they run out, they can no longer function.
I love these especially for JRPG's the only exception is IF the replacement boss just so happens to be a Tonberry but you already covered that in your last video and DQ6 is POST game only for that scenario so its kind of pointless.
I've got to say that recruiting the superboss to wreck the final boss of the game is an awesome concept and it's a crime that more games didn't follow Dragon Quest VI's lead.

Wow, two episodes of this and nobody mentions Totem Araquanid from Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon? In the original S/M, a massive school of fish called Totem Wishiwashi comes to kill you as you swim out into it's home, it's scary, so on. However, in USUM, when you visit this same home, you watch as the school of fish form again before a massive beam of light eats all of them, and a massive Araquanid rises from the sea like it's ready to eat you next.

Totem Araquanid doesn't eat the Totem Wishiwashi. It just scares away the Totem Wishiwashi before it's able to summon other wishiwashi through its school ability.

I was so surprised when that happened. I wonder if Lana had a talking to with Totem Araquanid about knocking out Totem Wishiwashi. I can imagine it going something like this Lana: I know you wanted a turn but you know you didn't have to attack Totem Wishiwashi. Araquanid: Araqua... 😞 Lana: No. I'm not mad just makesure you apologize alright? Araquanid: Araquanid 😔 Lana: Good boy. Other than that you did a great job out there. 🙂 Araquanid: Ara Araqua 😊

OK, I have to admit having the much harder secret boss beat the stuffing out of the regular plot boss is a brilliant idea and I'd like for it to become a thing
I posit: Saren, taking himself out and then his corpse being controlled by Sovereign. Unless you didn’t max out charm or intimidate, then you had to kill him.

That footage of Kid Icarus Uprising was rough. Proves that Nintendo really needs to get 3DS games off of a dead platform asap.
Another game that did this is Stick wars legacy. (which was especially surprising since the flash game stick wars was more or less identical. They then revealed the final boss identical to the final boss of the flash game just to have a bigger boss come out kill him and then use the original boss as weapon in legacy)
how you guys keep having more things to list and more lists to list them in is stunning to my feeble mortal mind
I like to imagine that during their time together, Revenge Armor just made some really thoughtless comments, or was always leaving the empty roll of toilet paper on the holder or something, and Talos figured that would be a good moment to pin his demise on Belmont.
Not a game, but my favorite example of this is from Slayers NEXT. They spend most of the season gearing up to fight the big bad Gaav, then Hellmaster Phabrizzo snaps his fingers and dusts Gaav.

Tales of Arise, Vholran killing witch lady you just fought. Then you have to go and fight him after losing a main character, and farming xP off of mobs to get there. Idk if that’s been mentioned or was in previous. I just beat that game a few months ago.
Point of order, Jane: the verb in the phrase “swashbuckling” is actually buckling. Which is to say, it is more appropriate to say “buckling swashes” as opposed to “swashing buckles” *snorts* *adjusts glasses*
In Hearthstone’s Trial by Felfire adventure, one of the later bosses is a simple imp. Easy fight. Until the ground starts shaking.

for reference to the uninformed, the butterfly that makes Morpho Knight ate Galacta Knight in Star Allies. Galacta Knight was one of Kirby's main superbosses for a good while. said butterfly is also *A being that decides the fates of souls lost in battles* . i'll let that sink in for you.

This is coming from someone who's never played a Borderlands game, but I love the detail that Steele has additional dialogue in her subtitles that she never gets to say just to *really* catch the player by surprise, since if they're a quick reader, they'd get her death spoiled a moment before it actually happened if they wrote something like "Yes, the key works. Sergeant, get your team ready to go inside-- AAAAAAGGGH!"
Professor Nakayama from Borderlands 2. He got killed by the scariest boss of all: stairs.
There's always the most badass cut-scene in video games.
In my experience, if you want numbers you take an engineering textbook. You can find pure mathematics texts where, to find a number, you have to look at the top outer corner of a page or the header of a chapter.
4:44 It is widely believed among scholars, that even the complete sections of the Bibliotheca Pseudo-Apollodorus, are an epitome of lost works. Like how the ancient Greek dramatics only briefly alluded to the whole space pirate story arc.
I was sitting next to my husband (who has a math doctorate) watching this and after the pure math textbook comment he immediately said, "Pure math textbooks mostly use letters." Lol
I miss when they’d say the comment that recommended it, even if a lot of people would recommend a boss, like the borderlands one in this video for example, it gave these videos some extra personality.
In Dino Crisis 2 the player is cornered by a T-Rex near the end of the game, just when it seems like the boss battle is about to begin the T-Rex is attacked and killed by a larger dinosaur a Giganotosaurus.
I think that human face WAS it's actual face and at the start of the boss fight you are just attacking the snapping turtle's "snapping turtle".
Absolutely love how Nokturnus literally just kicked a guy’s butt and dipped. He really said “that’s all? Cool.”
The contra turtle boss scared the shit out of me the first time I played. It just spins slowly around to reveal a giant baby head on its ass
Balore in Castle: Aria of Sorrow. You're about to fight a giant bat, but then a giant hand crushes it. Epic
DQ6’s bonus fight and well… that, is by far one of the funniest things in the series
Because my wife is who she is, when she saw the Contra boss, she yelled, "WAGYU BUTT!" hahaha now I can't unsee it.
I wouldn't say the first boss in Castle Crashers is scary, but it was killed by a much larger boss. The best part is the bonk mark on the inside of the door
Great video
I recently played through Borderlands 1 again and I forgot just how annoying that final boss is to fight. So many of his slam attacks just knock you around (or off) the arena
Here's another one for a future video like this. In Starfox Assault Level 1, you fight Andross's annoying nephew Andrew who turns his ship into a head and hands. Once you defeat him, he gloats about being the heir to Andross only to be blasted into scrap by the real level 1 boss, a flying Aparoid with moth-like wings and it turns out to be a lot tougher then Andrew ever was.

Well, you can get the Castlevania Advance collection on Steam and consoles that includes Aria of Sorrow (that featured in the original list of "bosses that get instantly destroyed by another boss"), Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance (that featured on this list) and Dracula X. It's just a port, but it's pretty well-done and features a few QoL improvements (such as a full bestiary for CotM, AoS and HoD that lists their item drops, a tracking system for Aria that tells you if you've already got a monsters' soul or not and a Harmony of Dissonance checklist that tells you if you've collected all the relics/furniture in each area).

@@dinoshotgun The way they made it sound in BL3 was like the Destroyer from the first game was basically just its little toe sticking out, which would've explained why it was a bullet sponge (it was to big to fit through and actually do anything). So I was expecting the actual Destroyer to be essentially the ultimate raidboss (like Crawmarax + Terramophous + Vermivorous + Haderax) and for Tyreen to meet her end similar to Steele, instead we got imo one of the stupidest bosses that felt like it was supposed to have QTEs. They could've done like with Son of Crawmerax and fight him for the story then any rematches are against his raid boss version. Also did they ever explain why that first vault apparently led directly to the Destroyer? It kinda defeats the point of the elaborate system turning Pandora into a giant vault if they're going put in an easily opened side door too.

@@AZ-rl7pg that somehow makes the destroyer from BL1 and BL3 even lamer then I already thought. We fight it’s stupid toe in the first game then get to fight a lame invisibility phase boss in the next.
