Man, nothing better than when you find the tutorial that finally ties together all the other tutorials you've watched. I redid my kick and low end on my newest track based on these suggestions and am sitting in my studio dying laughing from joy. I love that I can move forward on all my future tracks and carry these easy methods with me to find what kind of sound works for what type of track. I was definitely someone who would find a "good enough" kick and bass and then spend ages adding effects and EQ'ing, only to have to come back later and redo it all again. Starting off with strong sounds is absolutely key and got me 95% of the way there before doing any EQ'ing, compression or sidechaining. I was shocked at how good it sounded with no effects on the channels. Thanks so much!

Very true man! The power of simply using the right sounds! So happy my work was helpful!
When I saw the title of this in the suggestion queue I wondered “how much do I need to watch this one” and holy shit I’m glad I did thank you
When you want to pitch your kick back down from the high tuning range the quick octave shortcut is : select the pitch parameter then press shift and down. The pitch will transpose down by an octave. Press again for another octave. No need for a calculator.
I think Will is the entire reason why I never finish a track - every week I learn something new and then have to go back and apply these learnings.
A tonal balance control tutorial would be great👍

@@EDMTips Thanks for replying! Yes, I am struggling with how to build drops into my live set. Thanks your videos I was able to perform my second ever producer set live in Ableton by looping in session view. The feedback I got was the set was awesome except for the dynamics being a bit static as there weren't any quintessential builds or drops or transitions. Any suggestions or links to your other videos where I can learn how to move through loops into transitions and drops back to loops? Thanks!

Really enjoying these videos. Number 6 is really great. It's not something I've ever done before so keen to try it out. I've only been producing for the past 18 months, but I'm starting to understand that making your music sound better isn't about making one change; it's about implementing small changes all over, which result in an overall increase.
I just learned that you have a mixing guide. Thanks for making it free, most people say “IT’S JUST $10” (for example) but when everyone is charging you $10 (or more) for everything + all the money you just dropped on you new equipment you suddenly start feeling like you won’t be a good producer unless you have a ton of money (which is technically not true, but they really are making it that way)
@EDMTips
Жыл бұрын
Cheers, Boris! I understand that in order to produce high quality content you need to invest money so if people decide to charge $10 for a useful piece of content, I can see no problem with that. However, my mixing guide is totally free for anyone who wants it.
I am not going to tell a lie BUT this made a 500% improvement to what I am working on! Will, you are the best! WOW, what a game-changing tip right here AND as always delivered in the concise and understandable manner that makes EDM Tips stand out above the rest! Thank you so much for this!

BTW I'd love to se your tips on synthesis with Serum and/or any other ninja moves you have. I spend so much time on sound design and I'd rather get tips from you than search the billion other randos who. put up a video so they can show off their demo tape.
try reversing the "basic shapes" sine wave so that will actually be a true sine or you can just go into the wavetable editor , left click; hit clear and make your own sine wave by just turning up the very first frequncy bin as high as it goes ... you could even add some more punch to it by slightly turning up the next few bins up and play with the phase offset (the bins underneith the freq. bins to get your prefered sound. but yea... that basic shapes sine is backwards another important thing is to make sure the random knob for the oscillator is off. awesome trick though for sure! also a big thanks for showing the bark of dog plug in. im going to half to check one that out. I love subs with tons of low end. alot of times for my own mixes i wont even cut off the 20hz and just let it jam( i know thats kind frowned upon but its crazy how much a 20hz cut can change a sub)

Thank you, I am really glad my videos are helping!
I made a summary again ;) Thanks for your video :) 02:51 - Mistake 1: Choosing the wrong Kick for you Bass or vice versa. Rule: Sharp Kick - sustained bass and vice versa. Just listen to the low end (low pass on master) for searching the right combination of kick and bass 05:37 - Mistake 2: Forget to tune the kick to the root note of the track or to the 3th or 5th to the root note. Doesn't always work but most times its better to do it. 09:14 - Mistake 3: Frequency masking / clashing of different instruments, e.g. Kick and Bass clash on A0. Solution: Bass at A0 - take away some A0 from the kick and see if it works better. Always take away from the less instrument. 12:19 - Mistake 4: Treating Kick and Bass as one instrument. Ozon Imager to identify face issues (anything 15:50 - Mistake 5: Not sidechaining your kick and bass. Solution: Compressor or LFO Tool 17:22 - Mistake 6: Not Bussing. Solution: Process the Kick and Bass at some stage together and comrpess them together (equal the volumes out, make it more unifying). Add some Limiting or Distortion. 20:50 - Mistake 7: Not adding sub harmonics. Free Plugin: Bark of Dog. Boost it hard, search for the frequency where the bass pops through, then dial in the boost (6-8 db).
