hypnospace outlaw is probably one of my favorite games I've played. I was born 2000 so i only really saw the tail end of that era of the internet, but something about it just has this, very personal vibe? It feels very genuine, and conveys the human condition in a way _I'm_ most familiar with - on the internet. It's been a couple years since I played through it but every time I see it I get a little emotional, and nostalgic in a way I might feel nostalgic for the actual internet _I_ grew up with.

I'm from 1991 and totally agree. The "bloggosphere" being new and kind of the wild west of media like tv used to be and radio before that, was pure and raw in that way because things like facebook hadn't yet tried to conglomerate all people to one website to mine them for content yet. When that happened it was so obviously just a way to get free labor. Even the site we're talking on right now is using this conversation as a way to push advertisement. During the older internet, this conversation would be on an email list, a bbcode forum, a personal website comment section, or an irc chat. Of course, not everything about social media is bad. There's lots of good things about it. but I hope more people will feel free to create neocities-type sites and carve out their own personal corner of the internet. Kind of like how work portfolios and wordpress & tumblr pages work, but entirely self-contained and all-encompassing. I highly recommend checking out the current neocities scene and brushing up on a basic HTML/CSS course at something like W3 schools. Web development has only ever gotten easier and more powerful so that's awesome ^^. I'm building one myself ^^

@@slayeromair I actually recently found a game similar to A Short Hike called Lil Gator Game. I highly recommend it if you enjoyed A Short Hike. It’s a really cute game with a larger scale open map, more things to collect, way more cute/interesting dialogue, and a risk-free playing experience. There’s a lot more to the game, obviously, but it’s way more fun to play it than read about it. I genuinely think it’s dethroned A Short Hike as my favorite game

The Invisible Hours reminds me a LOT of The Return Of The Obra Dinn, by Lucas Pope (yes, the same guy behind Papers Please). A first person detective game where you have to figure out the fates of every last person that disappeared on a big trading ship, and your only means of doing so is to see the exact moment of a person’s death, and use context clues and following trails of deaths to figure out who’s who and where and who did what. The game’s visual style is super unique, having a pixelated harsh-lighting look. The voice acting is stellar, and the music is REALLY good for what it is! By the time i finished the game i was just ACHING for more, the gameplay loop of deduction and discovering clues was THAT satisfying

Superliminal is one of my favourite games EVER, and every time I re-play it I still get surprised. It’s one of those games that you can play over and over again and it never gets less interesting because there’s so much detail. I think it’s very underrated, so thank you for sharing!

Superliminal is one of the only games I've been able to replay over and over again. I found it through Xbox Game Pass and have begged so many people to play it. Have to agree with you over the story fails at the end. I still found the story unique, but it had a lot more potential than it reached.

Played pikuniku like a year ago. Best experience of my life.

I’ve played pikuniku and superliminal, and let me tell you, they both are some of my most favorite games of all time. One of my favorite indies is Unpacking. So amazing. Unpacking boxes after moving over the course of several years is so interesting

recently finished Hypnospace Outlaw, definitely recommend, it was such a fun and bizarre experience, and the whole story and lore of the characters and the Hypnospace universe got me hooked till the end

Honestly, I loved the ending of Superliminal. The game is all about perspective, both pysically within the game and mentally within the message of the ending. It's...really nice. Maybe not from a gameplay standard, but...damn.

The entire point of those kinds of games is to be entirely philosophical in a way. I've seen a lot of 3D puzzle games that dive into such an experience where it feels like the floor from beneath you dissolves. It captures those experiences really well and I think it's really nice.

I feel like theres a bit of a divide between people who play it. Its either confusing & pretentious, or fascinating & inspiring. I feel the reason the ending makes-or-breaks it for most folk, is because up until that point they’ve been stumbling their way forward. They didn’t try seeing things from a new perspective, they brute forced their way forward.

I really thought the adam and eve part was for a game and when A Short Hike came up i was like “They made A Short Hike!?”

I recommend Dadish, it’s about a radish who’s a dad and you go from level to level rescuing and retrieving your radish children, it’s super cute

It has no fighting system, a fun little story, cute character interactions, and really nice controls like A Short Hike, but with higher resolution, a bigger world, and a bigger roster of unique characters. A Short Hike is genuinely one of my favorite games but I’ve gotta say, Lil Gator Game might’ve dethroned it as my favorite

Thanks for the recommendations as a bonus I never seen any of the games you presented and as a indie fan you definitely peeked my curiosity

I just played a short hike for the first time a couple days ago because it finally appeared on game pass, and it's really good. Although one of those people that when they're given a goal, I immediately like to work chords that and then check everything else out so I already saw the ending within a day. But I'm definitely going to go back and explore around more.

A Short Hike is honestly so wonderful on almost every level.

I completely agree! Another game like this that I would recommend to every A Short Hike player is Lil Gator Game. Genuinely dethroned A Short Hike as my favorite game

Hypnospace Outlaw is so good. I bought it when it was on sale and I had no idea how nostalgic it was going to be. It’s easily become one of my all time favorites. It’s one of those games that you can play over and over again and still find new things.

little side mode called Call of Duty: Nazi Zombies. first came out in 2008 from good ol' World at War!

Aint gonna lie that green screen set up was one of the best jokes I've seen on KZread for a while

the invisible hours remind me of a vr game called "the under presents" where its also a story where all the characters go through a path and you have to figure out the story by going back and forwards a couple minutes to go back to the convo you heard going on while trying to follow this other convo. its a good game.

You're probably one of my favorite youtubers to watch rn, every since your rant about AI Interpolation, I've been addicted to your videos.

I finished it recently and loved my time with it. Super charming.

I played and had a ton of fun with Superliminal. 3D puzzle platformers in the same vein as Portal are extremely my shit. I remember seeing a short clip of it a few years ago at a game convention and thinking "Huh, that's neat." The whole concept of objects changing size based on perspective is super cool and it only gets expanded on even more the longer you go on. Although I probably wouldn't recommend playing it if you're not already in the right mindset to handle it because it can seriously scramble your brain sometimes lol

I really enjoyed the video production! 🎥 It's a unique style that I haven't seen on KZread before. :)

I bought PikuNiku because of this, ironically it was on sale at the time. Easily well worth the 3 bucks. Though that bridge objective had me frustrated for longer than I care to admit.

Thanks for these recommendations! I decided to pick up pikuniku and later alligator with your recommendation! Later Alligator is such a charming point and click. I got smacked around playing old maid with Grandma on the tram so many times. The characters and locations are all neat! I think the ending(s) were all great as well, it was so unexpected!

A short hike and super liminal are so great!!!

"this is filler" Well, it's awesome. I'll always be up for more cardboard vids like this one.

Sometimes I wish Hypnospace Outlaw was an actual browser. That game had so much aesthetic and charm to it!

superliminal seems to be a lot like a game called The Witness, its a puzzle game that uses the environment for a good portion of that game

I love "The Witness"!!

Webbed is another game worth trying! it’s adorable and has a unique functionality since you play as a spider. it’s art style is childlike and the tasks are quick…definitely one of my favorites.
