    #4: The original version of Super Mario Bros 2 was way too dificult for many players in the west , so that's why we got the altered version of Super Mario Bros 2. The original was only released in Japan, untill it was rebranded as the lost levels in Super Mario All Stars.

  • @rna151

    @rna151

    4 жыл бұрын

    That's not the only reason. Japan SMB2 followed up its original within less than a year on the Famicom Disk System. Nintendo had originally intended to release the disk system in the west as well but dithered and by the point they finally decided firmly against it years had passed and the standards on NES games had gone way up as cartridge add-on chips to give the NES hardware new capabilities became commonplace. In the face of this Japan SMB2 with its 99% recycled graphics and sound and high difficulty coming in years late as the followup to Nintendo of America's foundational game seemed likely to damage the brand. And heck, it probably would have. Maybe it'd be a different story if it'd come along in the same time frame as it did in Japan but by this point people expected more out of a sequel and certainly more out of a would-be Super Mario Brothers 2.

  • @zzasdfwas

While there were indeed a breeding pair for every land animal and bird, there were even more of what was considered *livestock*. This would include cows, sheep, and goats. No. They're on the same engine and have some superficial similarities, but they aren't the same game. SWGB is much more conservatively balanced with early game econ bonuses being either very small or counterbalanced by penalties. Also, it has player controlled flying units, which AoE2 does not. Calling SWGB an AoE2 clone is as accurate as calling Jedi Knight 2 and 3 clones of whichever Quake iteration their engine is licensed from. Some units behave similarly as some firearms in FPSs behave similarly, but the overall dynamic is different and there are additional mechanics not used in the base game.

    Aw, I really liked Nerf Arena Blast and tried to get friends into it. The game mode involving the Ballzooka was almost a LAN party favorite. Two teams try to collect 7 balls in order and use the Ballzooka to shoot those balls into their teams “tree.” It also had the element of “If only Nerf guns really worked this way...” May have inspired a few paint ballers and air soft enthusiasts along the way.

    Fun fact about Super Mario Bros 2: Even though the USA version originates from Doki Doki Panic, the game that later became Doki Doki Panic was originally going to be a Mario game after all. Shigeru Miyamato envisioned a Mario game with vertical scrolling in addition to horizontal scrolling. The game idea was scrapped and a new Super Mario Bros 2 was made (the one we know as the Lost Levels) because some things didn't work as originally intended. But the pre-Doki Doki Panic version of SMB2 does have some information about it - the underground had a cool remix of the SMB underground theme and at the end of the game there was something with money won. It also didn't take place in a dream or a book but in another realm of the Mushroom Kingdom. Introducing new enemies was nothing new, though, as if you remember Mario Bros had different enemies from Super Mario Bros (except the shellcreepers which were renamed as koopa troopas).
