7 DAYS in the Wilderness - Idaho Spring Bear Hunting
Спорт
This week, Coye and I spend 7 days in the wilderness, backpacking, camping, and spring bear hunting in Idaho's public land backcountry. This is some of the wildest country in the lower 48. We charter a bush plane flight into a remote backcountry airstrip, then spend the week tarp camping on the ridges and rivers as we glass the hills for bears. Along the way we see all sorts of other wildlife including elk, mule deer, mountain lions, bighorn sheep, and mountain goats. I'm hunting with my fire hardened hickory selfbow on this adventure.
Don't forget to subscribe to the channel. We're uploading a new video each week that features one of the following topics: archery, bow hunting, bow making, survival skills, bushcraft, self reliance, primitive skills, primitive bows, hunting, camping, fishing, and a lot more!

thank you so much for this Clay...I lived in the Bitterroot Valley south of Missoula, MT for 10 years working with the Bitterroot National Forest on wilderness trail crews. This video reminds me of our early April - 8 day backpacking trips working above the Salmon River. Seeing wildlife was always the highlight of any trip. I miss those days so much.

@@clayhayeshunter best 10 years of my life. Seeing bears right after they came out of their winter sleep was so fun. We would watch them rubbing all over downed trees, etc. I sure hope your son's trips with you are something he remembers the rest of his life. Never saw any mountain lions but did see an elk one had stashed up in a Ponderosa.

I gotta say...I LOVE Idaho! Those rivers, and adjacent canyons. What you guys are doing in this 1 video would be a trip of a lifetime for others. I live just "over the hill" from Salmon in Montana. As an archery hunter, (great Northern long bow) and a rafter, the kind of terrain you guys are in makes my heart sing. Maybe I'll look into a spring bear hunt in Hell's Canyon. I've seen quite a few bears there on rafting trips in the summer.
Seeing that much landscape and that much diversity of animals is an experience in itself. Looking forward to seeing what happens next. If it’s anything like my hunts, where everything tends to happen as I’m gearing up to head home, then it should be good.
Thank you for sharing this content! Our future generation is so lucky they get to watch this when they are older and looking back at the times they had with their father and family. You just can't beat that. Excellent example of what it is truly all about! Again, thank you for sharing your adventure!

Great adventure! Fantastic footage of the lion! Seeing the lion was worth seeing 20 bears. Especially since it was unaware of you and you could just watch it do its thing.
This reminds me of your scene on season 8 of alone when you said. I've been in lion country and I've been in bear country but I've never been stalked by a big cat or charged by a grizzly. They must not be as wild as this. That just stuck with me from the show and watching y'all kinda stalk the cat for a second. In the wild you never know what could be watching you while you are watching something else. Gives you goosebumps thinking about it.
Beautiful Country Clay! Thank you for taking me along!

This might just be my favorite hunting channel
Your sharing this extraordinarily beautiful, rugged country with followers like me was a true gift. Thank you, Clay. Even though, as you say more than once, seeing bears was of secondary importance, I can't help but wonder if their absence was due to the timing of the trip or to shaky intel from other people. Benji said in the film that he might go back at a later date with pack goats, and I hope you'll be with him. If so, is there any way you could manage a single lightweight, compact spotting scope and camera/cell-phone adapter so that you could show us close-ups of the big game animals you encounter?l All the best, Chris

Great video! I wish we had spring bear in the Adirondacks. Tracks in the snow everywhere this time of year.. the strategy is follow the rivers and the bears will be just out of hibernation and looking for goose duck eggs, and beach nuts appearing from under the meltingsnow. It is hard to believe, but probably true that most in their prime couldn't do 2000' accent . I'm 57 and took my son on a 1,500 foot vertical round 3000 foot. Price of cake . That's hunting. A lot of work . Perseverance is a key ingredient, with experience, knowledge and a little luck helps.
Awesome share. Thank you.

I inadvertently cow called a mountain lion in to 32 yards while elk hunting in Montana and it scared the crap out of me! Absolutely beautiful animal! Especially with the setting sun in its eyes and it's right in front of you!
If all fathers raised their sons in this way I am very sure the world would be better for it.
Love the Pink fletchings. Out of all the colored feathers available, they are hands down the brightest. I'll probably convert, after loosing yet another white/brown barred the other day. They just blend in with everything, including spring green grass, apparently.
