7.3 Powerstroke Injector Upgrade - Tow Rig Tech EP3

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

On this Episode of Tow Rig Tech we are upgrading the Injectors on our 300k mile 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel powered Super Duty. We went with stage 1.5 380hp single shot injectors from Full Force Diesel. While we are in there we went ahead and replaced the glow plugs as well as the under cover harnesses and head gaskets. The injector removal and install might seem like a massive undertaking but after watching this how to video you should be able to do the task in a weekend with normal hand tools. We also discuss the infamous 50 cent mod and when you should or shouldn't do it. Then we get to the fun part with some Burnouts and Full Throttle Launch modes on the Race Tune so you can see the results. Going from the stock 250hp to 380 can really wake up an 15 year old truck! So now that the 7.3 powerstroke injector upgrade is complete. What should we do next? Maybe upgrade the Transmission?

True but a seasoned mechanic would know to clean off that cover(air compressor) and surrounding before even thinking about taking it off. I watch ya tap the cover on its way out and dirt dropping off 😂 experience for noobs is expensive. None the less still cheaper to do it twice then taking it to a shop

Just a tip for anyone changing the injectors, after you pull the glow plugs and get the oil out of the cylinders, hook up the batteries and leave the main engine harness disconnected. With the key crank the motor over 3 times for 15 seconds. Then replace your glow plugs and put it all back together and the truck should crank up within 15 seconds of cranking (1st try). Doing this method allows to engine to spin over very fast with no resistance, this helps you not wear down your batteries so fast and build oil pressure.

Lol, wait, did you mean RUIN? That's called hydro-locking -- you have fluid trapped within the combustion chamber and force the engine to turn over, the pressure has to go somewhere. Too much fluid and too much cranking power can be mayhem on your con-rods..

This is a great introduction for the DIY crew so they won’t be so intimidated. Since you were there and changed everything, it would have been prudent to remove and reinstall new cups with that type of mileage. I did mine and they all looked good until I removed them and 3 had small fractures in my cups. Just an FYI for your peeps, don’t buy the super cheap removal/install tool if you are going to change them. It will bite you in the ass! BTW, really great explanations during the entire job!!

They also suck on rutted roads (snow or dirt), and cost more for tires. If you have to haul that heavy, I get it and I love the way they look but not everyone needs one. Also the gear ratios are so damn high especially with these old 4 speeds.

I always drain the oil in the rail in the head and as well as the fuel so it doesn't drain in the cylinders. One small plug on the front of each head that's uses a 1/4in ratchet and the oil plug os a 1/2in ratchet. we have see so many ppl where I work lock there motor up cause of all the oil and fuel that drained in there from doing injectors. And you can't turn it over with the injectors out cause it'll dump more fuel and oil out. If you have them in and pull the glow plugs out just stand back and watch oil and fuel go everywhere. Just saying that would be the correct way of doing injectors and not worrying about all the oil and fuel down in the cylinders.

BustedKnuckleVideo I mean that's ok to do but working on diesels my whole life and ASE certified and from ford, chevy, dodge as well as international, Detroit, Cat..ect.. like I said it's ok the way you did that but there is always a high chance of hydro locking the motor. we get it all the time at the shop where they don't properly drain oil and fuel from the rails. Diesel's have a higher compression ratio and if it can't push what's in the cylinders out of a tiny hole then you cause more damage then good. Glade it worked and I do enjoy watching yalls videos, I was just concerned about the way you were doing it.

to avoid excessive cranking on first start, i fill fuel filter crank for 5-10 seconds repeat on 3rd or 4th it starts right up. I figured this out working on a boat (48') and did that from then on with my 6.9 and later 7.3 and its always worked very well. Always worried about cost of starters, this procedure is like a Xanax, no more starter worries...PS I use a quart lower unit lube filler or quart 90# with squirt tube screwed on to refill filter.

Just a tip, but pulling out the 2 allen head plugs in the high pressure oil rail BEFORE removing the injectors will result in a lot less oil dropping into the cylinders. I noticed you guys didn't mention that step, but it's a good one to avoid a possible hydro lock, and actually eliminates the requirement to remove the glow plugs if you also drain the fuel bowl before starting the job.

OTC make a tool to easily remove\install injectors without risk of damaging the solenoid or housing. I have installed many times, without issue, hammer style. But for $50 I love it, keep it right by my extra injector o-rings. Side note, that oil deflector is extremely important, so if you ever com across any damaged in any way, replace. Very inexpensive part to prevent expensive rebuild or swap. Owner 1999(.5) F250 XLT 7.3 260K, 40 miles on recent stock rebuild.

Gran trabajo, acabo de comprar una f250 y tengo el motor 7.3, y el motor pierde velocidad en las subidas, creo que es problema de algún inyector y creo que con este video podre cambiar todos, gracias
