500 HP 7.3 Powerstroke Excursion Build - Project Towverlander Part 2 | Knucklehead Garage

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This time on Knucklehead Garage we finish wrenching on our 500hp 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel Excursion Build our overland excursion build aka project Towverlander. Then we take our new fast 7.3 Powerstroke for a rip on the hottest tune we can find! Big Full Force Hybrid Injectors, Dual Fuel Pumps from Strictly Diesel and a Bigger KC Turbos unit all make this the baddest Ford Excursion we have ever seen! With all of that we knew we needed better cooling and Mishimoto fit the bill perfectly. Throw in a Billet Torque Converter and shift kit from Diesel Performance Converters have this 7.3 rolling coal and ripping down the road. Will the transmission hold up to the abuse or will be have to walk home? Stay tuned and find out. Let us know what you think of the build thus far in the comments below. Big Thanks to all of the partners that helped out on this project to make this fast 7.3 excursion a 8000lb rocket ship!

@@BustedKnuckleVideo I hear ya, that's the plan. I basically wait until it needs parts replacement and then buy the best I can find. Last thing was the HPOP went out so it was upgraded. Before that it was a Mishimoto trans cooler along with dual pusher fans and a full transmission rebuild with a triple band torque converter and shift kit.

@@BustedKnuckleVideo Yeah, I installed two 10" or 12" electric fans in front of the trans cooler wired to blow air through trans cooler. Hard wired to switch on dash so I manually switch on fans whenever I see trans temps rising either from towing or pulling uphill in hot weather. Since heat is what kills transmissions I wanted to do everything I could to kill the heat first. I can send pics if you need.

I absolutely love everything you guys did to the manburb (suburban for men) lol! I actually did a lot of that to my E99 F250, pulled the motor, cleaned it up lots of Riffraff stuff, next project was going to the fuel system that you guys did but fell 15 ft off the top of a semi trailer and landed in the middle where the truck hooks up to the trailer. Was up top tarping a load from the construction site and the excavator operator hit the back of the trailer throwing me off the top. Lots of hip and lower back damage. Unfortunately I lost all interest to work on my truck anymore but I'm trying to get back into it by watching your vids. Love them and will take anything you got leftover! Lol!!! You guys rock and thanks for the excitement of getting back to it!

Mechanic said he has seen this happen lots of times with those lower quality intakes. But at least it gave me an excuse to have a few other things done. I putting an upgraded grill and headlights as well as an in cab air bag system. I’m also looking for some newer superduty seats to replace the ones in there. They are torn up pretty bad.

Done a build on mine about 8 months ago 205/80 full force injectors, t-4 s366 sxe Borge warner turbo, head studs reworked heads, 3” plenums, adrenaline hpop, went with the sinister desiel regulated return and a walbro high pressure fuel pump. Didn’t do the hitch mod just removed the filters in fuel take and installed an inline kobota fuel pre-filter and a php tuner. It’s amazing how much it wakes up the old 7.3. Enjoyed watching this build.

My 2002 Excursion 7.3 has 316k, runs like a champ. My wife informed me years ago that this was her last vehicle. She will never have anything else. Mods are a TS Performance 6 position switch that stays on the 75 hp setting. Mishimoto trans cooler, impeller wheel upgrade, exhaust back pressure valve delete, fuel pressure regulator spring upgrade, 4" MRBP SS exhaust and the big air filter. It gets 22 mpg on the highway all day long. I change the oil at 5k and drain/refill the transmission every 10k. Only part failure I've had on the engine is 1 glow plug. It's a RWD and it rides so much better than 4WD.

It's a KZread tune. That thumbnail wouldn't have garnered near the attention if the truck was burning clean. We don't run smokie tunes on the street, we just do it for video. I don't think "rolling coal was cool for a second," it was never cool to me, or good for the diesel industry, but it's just the reality of marketing diesel content and making power with old diesels like the 7.3 or 12v Cummins. Not to mention it was 98 degrees and 98% humidity that day; that tune would probably look much cleaner if we'd shot the video in February... Thanks for watching. More to come!

Honestly I’m really impressed with your choices of components for this built, the build quality looks second to none so hopefully you will have all of the reliability to match the looks. Now is there any chance that you could ship me over from the UK to you to test out the Excursion for myself before I end up making a purchase that I’ll regret (plus it would be pretty cool to meet you guys in person) and give my wife a break from me annoying her with my vehicles. Awesome episode anyway 🤘🏻

We can ship you over as an indentured servant. We don't have dishes for you to watch, so you'll have to turn wrenches.

I have a 1997 Ford -F350, Crew Cab long bed, 7.3, 4x4. With only 153,000 +chg miles. I use it for towing our 44 ft 5th wheel and toy trailer when ever we go to our family reunion up in Washington state. We live in Missouri. And I use it as a hot shot tow rig on acation when I need to make some quick cash.
