6DOF - Forza 7 - Poppin Wheelies at the Airport

This is the first video with the latest improvements in the custom firmware. The ESP32 now communicates at 10Mhz up from 1Mhz to the GPIO controller. This increase allows for the AC controllers to update their position faster and thus removed a bottleneck in the system. Its... extra scary now

Beautiful work! What are the response/delay times between actions and screen? Love the design.I've always wanted to build one of these. Keep it up!

Lots of timings are occurring, First.. from pc-> controller there is a 1000Hz telemetry update rate. once the custom controller accepts a packet it informs the individual AC servo drivers of the position the arm should be at in a matter of microseconds. from there depending on where the arm is at a programed in ramping algorithm calibrated to not destroy the chassis/driver decides just how fast it needs to move the arm depending on its PID tuning. ... its fast, there is no noticeable delay.. I fully understand the difficulty if there was as I used to race drones, where milliseconds of lag was noticeable. there is also significant headroom to go faster than it does ... if you like pain.

Which servo drives (what power) and what reducer are you using? Fantastic response and incredibly fast is your platform!

I hear that, waiting for enough cash is a big part,.. spread out the cost, work on stuff that does not cost allot .. like the chassis,. Learn how to weld,... If you don't yet,... I had to make it a constant goal I was working towards .. every day tackle some aspect of the build..

Looks like so much fun! I took my covid money and bought an old truck, I've almost got it finished then i plan to hopefully sell it double my money and get the motors and gearboxes, I still need to get that video up of making the controller but its going to be a little more challenging since i didn't anticipate going through 3 boards and I only really recorded the first attempt so maybe i can just take pics of the board and explain a few things. on a different topic i seen you have made a hydroponics controller!? have you had any luck with it? I always wanted to make something like that for the wife, before we got married she actually used to work in a large hydroponics farm. the place was CRAZY them plants grew Really quick! i kinda got to look at their setup a little bit and it didn't look terribly complicated.

The esp32 based hydro controller on my GitHub works great, very reliable. I've got it in a nice project box overhanging the res tank and it has 2 pumps for up and down solution.. I even had it on my hottub for awhile and a buddy of mine also has one. It uses mqtt and you get the data from any mqtt phone app after a little config. Biggest cost is the atlas scientific pH circuit.. but it's very reliable and has all the built in voltage isolation and amplifier built in. The esp just reads it relays it to a server, and listens for a few commands, for calibration , and pH up/down

So I really want to mount a dirtbike frame to this thing and wear vr! Do you think it would work well? Might have to cheat a lil for the lean to keep gravity in the right direction but I already kinda figured that out. Looks like I could build it for about 6k CAD. You SHOULD be able to wheelie, you could slide like crazy and snap it back center for the effect. Am I wrong in thinking this would work really well?!? I'll build it if it will.

i would be concerned with safety first, there is a 4 point harness on this seat now, and it still can be scary fast, and it can buck you out,...if you are not strapped. may need to wear full leathers and helmet !!!

@Christopherknauf thanks for the reply! OK. If that's your main concern, I'll make it mine. I'll wear a dirt bike helmet and integrate the vr. I'll cover the gear and legs with something to protect if i landed on it. Ill pad the ground all around it and lots behind. One issue is there is no ground to slide your foot on, but I have some ideas, but that's for later. Just in your mind though, with it tuned to keep gravity into the seat and fake the lean, do you think the immersion would be like an 8 out of 10? This seems too good to be true but it should work amazing. I'm looking for reasons it won't.

i would really want to keep the lean in somehow, how dope would it be to lean all the way down during a high speed sweeping canyon curve!!,.. though from experiencing VR in my sim, i suspect it would be very difficult to achieve without being very motion sick. it would take some serious dedication and years of tinkering to perfect.

  • @andrew-729

@Christopherknauf so I have put a lot of thought and chats with gpt4, the best way I can find is you don't lean the bike really you keep it in reference to the gravity and use the vr and force feedback in the bars to simulate the lean back to straight motion since it doesnt happen in real life. It will look 'wrong' if you aren't using it. But it should feel just fine. But yes, full lean is possible to simulate IMO. Plus loss of traction simulation the same as a car basically, then the tilt up for a wheelie, covers all your needs. A feed back vibration in the bike body for motor vibration and you're there... Thanks for the comments and inspiration.
