627 days of Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer Hair - Dance You Outta My Head - Cat Janice Support
She Dares Live: Hair Loss, Growth, and Chemo Curls - Sending Love to Cat Janice!
This video tells the story of my hair loss and regrowth journey after battling stage 4 inoperable pancreatic cancer.
My hair went from long and flowing to completely gone after chemo, but it came back with a surprise twist - a bouncy chemo curl! ✨ While the pictures are of me and aren't of Cat Janice, the warrior I'm dedicating this video to, i hope the message of fighting strong shines through. ️
Cat Janice, your strength and courage are incredible! Sending all my love to you and your son. Every stream helps his future, and we fight with you! Every single one of us. ❤️ #CatJanice #catjanice #fightlikeagirl
Turn on subtitles for extra info (or if you need translation) along with the story. The audio is just the soundtrack to the song.
Some key points:
* I chopped my hair before chemo to make a wig ‍♀️
* Hair loss is common, this is a regrowth story!
* Chemo curls can be a fun surprise (and a conversation starter - its amazing how many people ask about them and then are shocked it not "natural" or a perm!)

Go on girl !!!! Truly inspiring video, it really is. Have you seen that Brian Johnson fella here on KZread who's trying reverse the ageing process ? Take a look Lucy. The man's a billionaire and he literally has a team helping him in his quest for eternal youth. The man's completely bonkers and very lonely. He says he wants to live to at least 125 year's old. I say you out live him even if he does make it to 125. Why you may ask ???? Love Lucy, love. He maybe be a billionaire but without love in your life, real love that is, well then you really haven't got anything have you ? And you appear to have that in an abundance with your beautiful children and family around you...... Keep on a rockin girl..... The only way is up for you now. XXX

Hi Moonie, thanks so much for your comment and encouragement! I really appreciate your positivity. I did check out a video on Bryan Johnson. It's a fascinating approach! We share some similar principles, like plant-based eating, exercise, and using data to track progress. But yeah, his approach is definitely more extreme. While I admire his dedication, I do have some concerns about his methods. His appearance raises some questions for me about the overall healthfulness of his approach, and he seems to be using more chemicals and drugs than I would be happy with. I personally believe in finding what works best for me by doing nothing in excess and listening to my body. Love the focus on longevity though! I do get a lot of ideas from the longevity folks and love all the info on Blue Zone people. Keep spreading the positivity, Moonie! "

@@SheDaresLIVE Quite a bizarre character isn't he ? When I first came across some of his videos I thought very probably much like everyone else. What's all this about ? He's doing what ? How much is this costing ? that costing ? It all seemed completely bonkers and a complete waste of time to be honest. Then like you, I looked at it from the standpoint, let Brian do all the spending and donkey work and if there's some merit to some of the thing's he tries then have a look if it could be of any use to myself. Anyways there's not a great deal Brian could help me out with really being on such a restricted diet, but hey ho we never know do we ? His daily supplementation is rather, shall we say "impressive". Literally more tablets than food. Surely most of the supplements he consumes would pass through his body as waste. Bright illuminated lime green pee first thing in the morning and pretty much for the rest of the day I should imagine. I'm at the hospital again in the morning. This gives me a chance to plug your channel a little as most of us are there for the same thing. I always try and promote your channel, hey the more the merrier yeah ? Right thats me off until tomorrow. Few thing's around the house need attending to and I really really need some good quality sleep (lifelong insomniac) absolutely horrific. Take care Lucy, and we'll speak soon. Much love. Moonie. XXX

@@SheDaresLIVE Yes I'm back home Lucy, outpatients visit as a follow up to some gastro work from a few months back. It sounds like you have a fantastic medical team behind you and although they try, the NHS is in total dissaray. Especially so post Covid. Didn't take the opportunity for private health care all those years back (we all think we are invincible in our late teens early twenties) and that's definitely come back and bite me on the backside BIG TIME. It's been horrendous to be honest with appointments being cancelled and re arranged every single time I'm put through for an appointment and I literally mean every time. The appointment went really well. There's been no change whatsoever to my liver in the last 3+ years so that's great news. My Doctor told me whatever your doing just keep doing it.... Brilliant. Not one single question what I was doing to keep the liver virtually fat free and absolutely no more scarring. NHS for you. Also my bloods came back looking fantastic, almost perfect which I can't really understand as I have "mild cirrhosis" compensated liver. Obviously I asked, but the answer was..... Yes you've guessed it. Keep doing what your doing.... Brilliant Doc, thanks for the advice. I Also did my usual and plugged your channel to the waiting patients and staff that could be bothered to listen. Just watched your latest video this morning (excellent again) I noticed the subscriptions have gone up which is fantastic. I think if you could keep the videos coming regular more people will catch on, but I understand the constraints you have so I'm sure that will makes things difficult in that regard, but hey ho keep at it Lucy your videos are genuinely great fun to watch, not so much one or two of the earlier one's which were excellent in content but heartbreaking to watch. Anyways it's seems your definitely doing the right thing for yourself. And like you said in one of your recent videos...... Enjoy the healing process because it's definitely fascinating when you know your on the mend and proving the doom crew completely wrong. Much love Lucy, take care and speak very soon. Moonie. XXX

Are you able to post what you eat in a full day to maintain weight throughout chemo? Also do you do intermittent fasting daily? If so for how many hours?

"Thanks for your question! Maintaining weight during chemo is a complex topic. While doctors usually advise it, I personally didn't fixate on that during my journey. I had some excess weight, and it naturally stabilized at a healthy BMI - I lost 15kgs in about a year. It felt like my body was shedding unnecessary toxins along with the fat - everyone's experience is different! Interestingly, studies show overweight (at diagnosis) pancreatic cancer patients might have better survival rates than underweight ones so I felt maybe I was a beneficiary of that statistic?!! During chemo , oncologists are very keen on preventing cachexia, a muscle wasting syndrome with severe consequences. But as I say, I had the weight to lose. I checked from time to time that I could put weight on if I wanted (by eating more pulses, grain and beans) and I could. I do worry if my weight spikes up as that is a sign of a problem - but otherwise I don't generally worry about my weight. I'm happy to share what I might eat in a typical day: Breakfast: Nut-rich porridge (more nuts than oats for protein) Lunch: Salad with a homemade black bean burger/empanada (sweet potato pastry so gluten-free) Dinner: Varied, maybe a mild curry I also add handmade sauerkraut and artichokes to all lunch and dinner currently. As for fasting, I do eat within an 8am-6pm window (flexible to 7pm if needed), which translates to 13-14 hours of daily intermittent fasting. I found this approach, inspired by Valter Longo's research, aligned well with my body's needs. Remember, every cancer journey is unique. Please consult your doctor. Take care!

@@SheDaresLIVE thank you for the detailed reply! My only issue right now is the protein part. I am also looking to limit glutamine as much as I can but I fail to find a good protein source without much glutamine. I currently only eat buckwheat but I am looking for more protein sources without much glutamine. If you are aware of any specifics I would love to know! Cheers!

Are you still taking tumeric? I heard that it can reduce the effect of chemo, wondering your thoughts

  • @SheDaresLIVE

I take a turmeric extract called Lamberts Curcumin Ultra for its better bioavailability than raw turmeric. I do also eat raw tumeric and include it in a lot of meals. Because it has an anti-sprouting chemical sprayed on the outside I either peel it or soak it for 24 hours when I first buy it to remove this. The compounds within tumeric supplements can have an effect on drugs taken at the same time due to tumeric's method of action on the CYP3A4 pathway. This is part of the P450 liver enzyme system - some things are inducers which push things through the liver more quickly, and some things are inhibitors which slow down clearance of drugs as they pass through the liver. Tumeric is an inhibitor. This means that it would mean any drug you were taking at the same time was in your system for longer. I didn't take curcumin during my actual chemotherapy as the doctors asked me not to because they couldn't be sure how it would react with the chemo. However, I did take it outside of infusion weeks based on research I found specific to pancreatic cancer (this link: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4110570/). As you can see, the results are mixed, highlighting the complexity of cancer and individual responses. Suggest doing a lot more reading and research taking account of your own personal circumstances - I found discussion with the oncology team useful. Definitely don't take during infusion weeks.
