My Pancreatic Cancer Journey: Scan Update - Surprises and Setbacks October- December 2023

Scan Update: Surprises and Setbacks
In this scan update, I was expecting to tell you that the cancer had completely healed. Although the cancer was the same as last time, on this scan, new inflammation was identified in my pancreas and liver. Turns out, even survivors have setbacks! (maybe spicy poppadums and high-dose niacin weren't my best friends.) ️
In this update, we're facing some new inflammation, exploring whether the new inflammation is cancer or not, and I set out what I'm going to do about it which includes specific foods for my liver and a new approach with specific yoga moves for my liver. Spoiler alert: my pancreas is already back on the mend!
Join me as I:
Unpack the "why" behind the new inflammation: Is it cancer? Or could it be the chilli and the niacin?
This video is for anyone following my journey against stage 4 inoperable metastatic pancreatic cancer. Remember, we all stumble, but we can learn a lot from our mistakes.

I love your youtube name! - and wishing you well on your journey. I agree that conventional medicine does not give you many options for pancreatic cancer, this is why I felt I had to take it into my own hands. Don't feel lonely because this can be a killer in itself and I was very lucky to have supportive friends around me - there are loads of other people out there on social media who are in the same situation and I've also made quite a lot of new "cancer" friends through local cancer centres that often offer free or very cheap holisitic treatments or group sessions for cancer folks. What country are you based in? Over the course of my diagnosis I've taken many different off labels and supplements at different time - I do list out what I was taking at that time in the Feb 2023 video including what time of day I take them - and plus or minus I'm still taking roughly this combination. I'm warying of people just copying the supplements I took, because I did so much more than just supplements, and it is fundamentally reductionist. I also put a lot of work in via spreadsheets working out that all my pathways were blocked. I think you need to get your diet straight before supplements otherwise supplements can have unintended consequences. The supplements that I do take, I take with every meal. I would suggest liaising with your medical team to ensure that you are given Creon - outcomes for pancreatic cancer patients who take Creon are improved in any event, and I also see pancreatin as a key part of the healing of those on the Gerson protocol and also Gonzalez/Beard/Kelley approach. I also take a couple of pills just before I go to bed at least two hours after I've eaten. What do I eat for meals every day? I would describe my diet as vegan macrobiotic sugar free, alcohol free, heavily fermented, generally lower GI. I currently eat mostly organic nut porridge that we make at home and ferment it over night for breakfast, and a variety of things for lunch and dinner. In the early days until probably Feb 2023, I was very strictly low GI and did not eat white potatoes, rice, corn or sugary fruit. However, when I changed to start eating 30+ different plant ingredients per day, I did change to include (seasonal) fruits and have for the past year, following Sheri-Lynn DeMaris, included organic brown rice in my diet (and I've found the brown rice water in itself very healing for my gut). I do eat all sorts of beans and pulses, and note that other pancreatic cancer survivors like WIlliam Kelley had this as a key plank of his diet. I've always eaten sweet potatoes (and notice when I don't eat them that my nail quality suffers) and do now occassionally include a white potato - either organic or homegrown. I note that those in the blue zones eat lots of grains and root vegetables, and recently enjoyed the Netflix documentary on this. I do now eat corn. I think the key is to eat WHOLE FOODS. It is a ballache to cook and it helps to have someone help you, however, I think it would be possible to do it living alone if you had an Instant Pot. I think a key thing is to have absolute faith that you can do it! and it sounds like you are already on that mental path so I think you can do it too. Make sure you are eliminating from your life whatever it might be that got you sick in the first place, as that is a pretty key thing as well. sending love, Lucy x

Hi Nabeel, I initially found out about metabolic pathways using Jane McClelland’s book. In that book, her recommendation is, for stage 4 patients, to ensure you have every metabolic pathway blocked. I made a massive spreadsheet cross referencing supplements and metabolic pathways and then used spreadsheet logic to work out what I had unblocked. Further, I also really tuned into my body to feel where things were slightly off - like sugar cravings, or bone achiness or any number of small things to slightly adjust what I was taking or eating one way or another. Looking at my blood test results was also very important. My diet allows me to minimise the main pathways sugar glutamine fat. There isn't a test which allows you to check this that I am aware of. Wishing you well, Lucy

Hi Lucy! Thank you for all this wonderful information!!! May I ask you, how you did find out, on what your type of cancer is feeding? I am having stage 4 hormone positive breast cancer and I just don't know on what my type is feeding. I am working together with an integrative doctor who is trained by Nasha Winters... she wants me to follow a keto diet, which I am trying to do mainly plant based. But I would love to educate myself and don't know where to find out. I recently read several times that prostate cancer is doing very well on a plant based diet and animal protein should be avoided. I am just wondering if it is the same for my type of cancer. Do you know about any sources, where I can educate myself specifically? Thank you very much!!!

One can never really know on what pathway one's cancer is feeding on. Unfortunately it's just not possible to take a test and see how the cancer is feeding. However, if I'm craving a certain thing then I work on a worst case scenario and suspect this is the cancer calling out for it... Yet cravings could be unrelated to cancer. There are studies that certain cancers do prefer certain pathways - in Nasha's (highly ANTI vegan) book she also highlights prostate cancers or situations where ferritin count is high as being exceptions where a vegan diet she recommends. I am concerned that I have seen research that pancreatic cancer cells can feed on ketones (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35307861/#), so I have personally avoided ketosis. Everything I've done has been based on my own personal research and experience and I am not a doctor. I use ncbi (a database of medical research as a source) and I think two good cancer books on metabolic pathways are Jane McClelland's How to Starve Your Cancer (but it's not an easy read) and Nasha Winter's "The Metabolic Approach to Cancer". I don't agree with all things in each book but see more similarities than differences with both, and found both very educational. Everyone has to find their own way. I think working with an integrative doctor will no doubt avail you of a lot of expertise. Wishing you well.

Great video Lucy...... Regarding supplements, have you tried Tudca and N Acetyl Cysteine for liver support ? Personally I'm very sceptical about the supplementation of diets for 100% healthy people. But whereas people such as you and I are concerned, they definitely are worth careful consideration. I honestly believe that the Tudca and N Acetyl Cysteine have been very helpful towards the healing of my liver. Always worth a look. 👍👍👍 Much love. Moonie. X

Also, just a tip from a fellow creator, it's not necessary to have all kinds of eye catching fast paced visuals. You don't have to write your own captions, youtube does it automatically. That might save you some time. Buy seriously if you are trying to get as much reach as possible to help people you might want to make the format more user friendly and don't take that the wrong way, I'm just trying to help. It's great to see you have gotten good results and I wish you a full recovery.

@thetruthergirls I don’t know why but it doesn’t seem to do the captions automatically for me anymore. The ideal would be for KZread to generate them and then me to correct the typos, but this doesn’t seem currently an option. With regard to the purpose of the channel, I know my story is important and potentially a game changer for many people. I feel like cancer slumdog millionaire and that my whole life was leading up to achieving this (probably need to make a video on that one day). I love the engagement I’ve had with people that have found my story. I feel like the channel has helped me find my tribe. However, I need to stay true to documenting my own story. I feel a bit like an artist when people say, I would like your pictures more if they had more blue or trees in them, but all I can do is make the videos that make me happy and reflect my journey to me. I like watching them back myself. The music was a big part earlier on, and I spent a long time picking the right tracks and words that really expressed my emotions. However, negative feedback on how people didn’t like the music (probably not helped by my amateur video editing) really tarnished my experience of posting them a bit so now I don’t put any music on at all. Which I don’t feel especially happy about. So, your feedback is interesting and I note your huge number of followers, (104k wow!) but I guess if people want to watch they will and if they don’t because of the sound or the visuals, then they don’t. I think being a KZread creator with squillions of followers when the channel is really my own diary and so personal is something I haven’t fully considered all the pros and cons of for myself and my family. Is it even possible to consider all the pros and cons? For the moment, I just make the videos and I’m happy if others enjoy them too and it opens their minds to a different way of thinking about cancer. I have an obligation to do that because it gives other people the opportunity to help themselves, and I’m paying it forward from the people I found about about when I was sickest. But I’m not sure where making this part of my life so public will take me or my family, so I’m just leaving it up to the universe, which I find generally has my back. I definitely could learn a lot from you though and congratulations on the success of your own channel. X

Hi, thanks for your question and I'm sorry its taken me a little time to reply. I understand the eagerness to find ways to manage health. For me, the idea of publishing a protocol is misguided because I've done several different "protocols" at different points on the journey and who is to say whether what i did first helped or hindered what i did later or whether it was essential! I have documented these via my videos - like this one where i do include a list - kzread.info/dash/bejne/h3ubw6aQm9vIlrw.htmlsi=uwlBOwJI_C-EBIJP. I know what I did worked for me - I put a lot of time and effort into metabolic pathway mapping and my designing my diet and also listening to my body very carefully for wherever the cancer seems to be trying to break through. I'd be very nervous of someone just copying what I did because it might not work out for them. It's very reductionist to think (if one were to think that) that it was all down to the pills. Please understand that my primary goal is to share my journey, show that pancreatic cancer can be beat and encourage informed decision-making, not provide medical advice. Wishing you well. X
