I bought land at 23 while I was in the Army. I'm 46 now. I still have the land. There still isn't a cabin and shop on it. Mad respect for his motivation and drive.

Very true! It’s all about focus and work ethic. I’m 23 and just earned my Doctorate, got married and bought my first home. My younger brother (21) chose to become a welder and he recently built his first home. He and I have different life goals and so we took different paths. One thing in common was our drive to reach our goals. We joke because now he is in more debt than the college kid 😂.

I’ve been a journeyman electrician for 23 years out of Houston. I work in the oil refinery industry and cleared 132,000 last year. At 42 now i’ll retire happily at 60 with full pension. God dammit I can’t wait!🤙 Be FU#*:NG careful!!

awesome what you achieved, how you went about it and how you got it done. Something to be proud of for sure. Most of all thanks for sharing all the lessons learned and transparency on costs etc ... I'm embarking on a similar journey at double your age so I'm a few years behind but your video helped me ball park some costs.

Liked the video before it even got to anything about the house. Hearing a man making his way at 23 gives me a sliver of hope for the future. Keep the trades alive.

Great video and breakdown! Most people looking to do new construction have no idea what it takes from site to completion… nor do they know the cost! Keep up the good work!

People can talk crap about the trades but the skills and friendships that you have acquired through the trades has helped you save a ton of money. What you have accomplished is very impressive for your age. You build your dreams instead of buying them.

The trades will out-last tech careers. I guarantee it, and this is coming from a tech guy working for a fortune 500 company. Kinda wish I'd have done trades instead sometimes.

There truly is no place like home. You've built yourself an awfully sweet one. I hope the life you build within it will be filled with happiness in equal measure to the energy and devotion you brought to it's construction. This series of videos has been an inspiration. College graduates on average make more $ over their lifetime than trades. Working trades is rough on the body. They are different paths for different types of people. It's ignorant for one or the other to feel superior over each other. They each have their pro's and con's. The "indoctrination" comment you made tells me you never went to a university in the first place or you graduated in the 80's and you're just out of touch...

Without university, trade schools wouldn't exist. Give it a rest. Anyhow, what really goes on behind the scenes? Who's helping finance the building....sure it was all done without any financial assistance.

I "built" (paid an outfit) a 36x40x12 garage this year. Last bit of concrete poured this week. It was a teeeerrrrible year to build but I was ready. Glad to see another guy pull the trigger and full send it. Nice house man.

I have just built a house in Australia as a owner builder. I did as much labour my self as I could. The cost breakdown was about the same. Not including painting.

I am truly impressed with your creation. At 23yo to build something this beautiful and well-thought out is amazing. I am looking to build something very similar and the information you have provided will help me understand the process and estimated costs. I'm a bit older and starting a company where I need a good-size shop. I am looking hard at Steelmaster quonset hut design (fits in AZ), as it takes care of the roof and half the side walls. It is super cheap and strong, and you can insulate it as little or as much as you want. Get them big enough and you can put in a second floor or loft. I have a whole bunch of different designs/sizes I'm working on.

Man 250k would not even get me a 1 bedroom apartment where I live in Canada, his place would probably be $4-5 million in my area. I think I need to move to the USA so I don't get fucked by insane prices. Good on you bud for getting a sweet place, hope it all works out for you!
