    As a former builder with 12 years of owning my own company, and 25 years of construction, I can say that your numbers are very realistic. I like the way that you have done this project young man. I have bought some land near the mountains out to itself in northeast Georgia. Wife wants a nice house. I want a shop to restore my 1969 Camaro. I am close to retiring from work, 4 years maybe. You have gave me inspiration at 64 years old to pursue a shop building FIRST! I might end up living in it by myself but ol well. Thank you for posting this video. Good work all around, in the video and construction.

    I got an estimate for a 60x80 metal building slab and all for $160,000 down in texas and I believe that included 4 bay doors. The guy said the price also depends on the cost of steel at the time too and I believe it was high a year ago when I asked. Now of course this didn't include the land and this was just an open steel building with no rooms inside. I can just build an office inside if I want one.

  • @grasscutter88

    @grasscutter88

    3 жыл бұрын

    @A W I think it had basic electrical, no plumbing. I'm in the process of buying a property with a steel building on it already and just adding a smaller addition to it later on since I don't trust that the contractors will stay on budget. I can see that 160,000 easily turning into 250,000. That quote for 160,000 I got about a year ago. Right now with the covid-19 thing going on the contractors are swamped and I can't even get anyone to get back with me with a quote.

    I have two friends that have this same setup. One is almost this exact size and one is less than half. Both being a 25/75. I thought living space was small at first but being a dude that’s usually off the couch and phone, the inside is for the boss lady so let her “design” her part so you can get yours. Dude has a lot of 💰in unused space, which is nice if it fits in the budget. It cost more to build and more air to heat. Porter field do yourself a favor and do the blown insulation then the foam board insulation in the wall(buy it surplus/salvaged)You can get more out of the living space by bed and bath upstairs. Cut out the 💀 space and use the money for geothermal(you can do it yourself and way cheaper than any bid from HVAC companies) cuz the boss lady’s cold little toes are gonna have you chopping a shit ton of locust or spending your supercharger money on more coziness! God Bless and thank God for our Bull in this commy china shop Trump!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💯

    Let me start out with " Great Job"! One can tell you put a lot of time and energy into the design and layout of your project and it looks and functions well. Appears you chose a great group of sub-contractors who also had your best interests at heart and the finished project shows. I was a new home builder and remodeler for years and I caution you on others suggesting after the fact you should have done this or moved that knowing they mean well. Be happy with what you have and when the next project comes along and there will be another project in your future you will be all the wiser my friend. You have all the best reasons to be proud of what you have accomplished for your self and wish you nothing but peace and happiness. Keep up the good work!

One suggestion I have for you is to look into mini split AC and heat pump combo. I started off with window units and heat strips but electric bills were more expensive than I liked. I made the switch to mini splits and couldn’t be happier. They’re very efficient and quiet. Cut my electric bills in half. Very simple to install as well.

    @Billy Bob it's called hard work. I owned my first 130k house at 24 with only a 60k loan. Rehabbed it by 26 and sold for 200k and moved to Florida all while turning a wrench. I'm 34 now and building a 800k house and shop on the water here in Florida for half the cost because I own a construction company now. Work for it and don't let anyone hold you back. I worked 80 hour weeks at the shop and out of my own garage to afford what I wanted. Only regret was not putting money into the markets I'd pry be a millionaire but I did invest into myself. No college, barely passed High School because of myself being ADD and grew up with abusive parents. I did find an amazing wife that works just as hard plus we didn't have kids till after being married for 6 years which I made sure of. Ever want advice I've helped a quite a few of my guy's get on their own doing just like myself. You must though give up boozing every night and smoking weed all the time that shit doesn't get you anywhere. I like to go out and trust me I played 3 nights of league pool before I left up north so I'm not just some boring fool. Just I enjoy fast cars, houses, traveling and my wife more then the bar and getting high all the time. And again we never received a single dollar from anyone besides what we made so don't think it's not achievable.

    7 or 8 years ago I sat down and sketched out something very similar to this, except I wanted to leave all the land around the house wooded (so I could sit on the front porch and watch birds/wildlife while I enjoyed my cigars). I told my old man about it during a visit and he kind of scoffed at the idea, then last year he built one himself (not wooded, but in the middle of 80 acres). I got remarried 1.5 years ago, to a city girl, so those dreams have gone up in smoke, but at least I can live vicariously through builds like yours... Nice work!

    I wish I had been as smart and motivated as you are at that age, but I was too busy chasing girls, driving fast cars and having fun to care about building a nice house. You have done a great job of setting up your home and it will serve you well in the future. Best of luck to you sir, you deserve it.

    The new low temp ones actually kick out heat down to -22. Mine still heats fairly well at -13. Yes, some backup heat is needed, but not that often. I live in southern Minnesota.
