Erik Douds is an adventure filmmaker who has partnered with brands like REI, PEARL iZUMi, Arctery’x SoHo, Revo Sunglasses, and Ortlieb Waterproof. Alongside partner Annalisa van den Bergh, the duo has biked self-supported around the world covering over 10,000+ miles crossing America multiple times, sleeping at the base of Denali mountain, and most recently completing 1,000km in Southern India to start 2020.
Behind the Lens offers a behind-the-scenes into the art of adventure filmmaking, which can be compared to the singer-songwriter duality. You have to be the athlete and cinematographer at simultaneous moments.
Learn when tripods are left behind, scenes where someone magically disappears, what gear is used for time lapses, or how that shot came into existence.
At the end of the day, this series is to inspire deeper storytelling.
Erik Douds and Annalisa van den Bergh know each other because of the shared diagnosed of type 1 diabetes for the past 12 years, along with being from the New York City area. The two are international speakers touring nationally to share their stories and films.
COVID has placed Erik in Bangalore, India following the Miles of Portraits: India trip that “ended” in February.

If you could spend the day with one filmmaker, who would it be? I recently discovered Saravana Kumar aka 'India in Motion' with 3 other favorites being Levi Allen "Slacklife," Elina Osborne "It Is the People," and Kraig Adams' hiking videos.

I love Saravana Kumar's films. I started following him on Instagram about two years ago when he was doing time lapse shots of Spiti valley. Thanks for the recommendations :)

We sometime laugh how an entire morning is spent doing something like taking a photo. Annalisa & I have slowed down our trips more and more to leave space for these opportunities rather than rushing.

Thanks Shilpa! I learned over the years from watching others and it slowly gives you the courage to start on your own. Hope to inspire some more storytelling from others, especially here in India 🇮🇳

Filmmaking definitely requires lots of work! Each of these youtube videos is about 10-20 hours of work. The Alaska series is already out to watch. Next will be India this summer, and maybe my Southwest trip will be released in November
