HERE'S MY 2021 RANKING - kzread.info/dash/bejne/gYlmuZKaYs3SnLg.html If you don't have time for a 8 book series, here are my recommendation for STANDALONE fantasy! kzread.info/dash/bejne/d4uKxNJ_eNPLnco.html Here are my recommendations for fantasy DUOLOGIES - kzread.info/dash/bejne/qpeNsdGSYKzPZaQ.html Regarding the ending of Ember in the Ashes (Without spoilers!) I actually reread the end after filming this video and technically the issue I needed resolved *was* resolved, it just happened in the very very last chapter and so quickly! To the point where I was almost wondering if it was another dream sequence tbh. So is was less vague than I felt that it was on the first read, but it still wasnt the strongest ending imo because of how suddenly it was resolved and came to an end. Also one other character deserved a MUCH BETTER ENDING AHHHHHH. Ending here because if not I will deffo spoil it hahaha bye~

Six of crows duology - (Grishaverse) Leigh Bardugo I don't have to say anything about narnia cause everyone one knows how brilliant it is. The queens thief series. Omg. Brilliant. Took her like 20 years to complete. Better than six of crows imo. Six of crows of course is also absolutely fantastic. Leigh bardugo is a genius world builder. Other than that. 3.Grishaverse -shadow and bone trilogy (kinda predictable but good) -six of crows duology -king of scars duology (very good) 4.A darker shade of magic trilogy (V.E. Schwab) 5. Smoke and Mirrors duology (Japanese based) and Rose and Dagger duology (Arabian folklore based) by Renee Adhieh 6. A star touched queen (Indian folklore based) duology by Roshani Chokshi 7. Nightingale and the bear trilogy (Russian folklore based) 8. To kill a kingdom by Alexandea (standalone) 9. City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty (didn't finish this one but the world building was excellent) Enjoyed these and admire creative liscense they (authors) took with folklore. Also excellent world building and settings! Some better than others obvi. But those top 3 really stand out.

@_cottoncandy Hi. Its about a siren and a prince. Two conflicting cultures. They set out to kill each other but fall in love. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't read much siren/mermaid stuff but this was good. If you like the enemys to friends trope this is for you. Also there was more focus on plot than romance. A good balance imo. I love romance but not overly done ones. This was perfect. As a story it was well done and well written. Interestingly Alexandra Christo's second attempt at a book was bad. Dont recommend it. But this is worth the read!

The Cruel Prince series is my favourite because of the character development of both Jude (main girl) and Cardan throughout the main trilogy. I also like that the books include faerie politics (although that may be too much for a lot of readers especially if you just want magic and romance only) and I like that Jude has her own agency, opinions and goals as a female character, like she wants to fight and be a knight, and later (spoilers from here!) she is actually a competent spy, advisor and then queen despite being a human in Faerie. Lets be real, you aren't going to be queen just because you marry a king even if it is a fantasy faerie world, there are still people to govern and politics to handle. I also like the complicated relationship and history between her and her father figure, as well as with her sisters (both the conflicts and the good times). I like how her personality is not just about the male love interest. I like the presence of complex relationships and interactions with other characters in the book such as with her family, rather than having the main character's whole family (biological or adoptive) be basically nonexistent like it often is in YA fantasy. I like the presentation of complex relationships between women despite them being close, such as with her sisters. It was just more interesting to read that family dynamic in addition to the rest of the plot, especially as Jude's father figure is also involved in politics/the court. I also like how Jude is not perfect, she is head-strong and reckless but also an overthinker and desperate to prove herself. And it is enemies to lovers, where the "lovers" happens later in the series rather than right in the first book (which might be called "slow burn" for people who just want straight romance), but the enemies part is actually very... believable? Like in some fantasy YA books that claim to be enemies-to-lovers but then they aren't even enemies they just vaguely dislike each other (sometimes they don't even know each other, their people groups just don't like each other) but not with Cruel Prince! Jude genuinely hates Cardan and his cronies, and as a reader you hate him too. I hated him, but somehow I was still drawn to reading more about him as I read the whole series. And then like I said, I enjoyed his and Jude's character development by the end of the book.

I wanted to write a pharagraph just like you did here but I didn't because I didn't want to write something too long not to bore people but I'm encouraged from the length of what you wrote so here I start: First of all, I quite enjoy politics in fictional worlds and I become really attached to characters when I read a book. I highly value intelligence in characters so I absolutely loved the planning and scamming parts. This was my first YA and I really loved the book. But at the first one, I was kinda annoyed at Jude because she constantly thought about the poison and the letter on Balekin's desk. She was concentrating at the right point but the poison could have had nothing to do about this whole mess. I don't know, maybe only I felt like that. Then there is Cardan. After consuming every book I love him deeply. I was thinking that he would eventually become a better person worthy of the main character. But you know this was a pre-YA reader's mindset. I now know that villains may also be the lucky guy to get the girl. I haven't read a whole book on this troop but we could say that I'm familiar with the idea. And I always disliked Locke since the start. Both because of my earlier mindset and him being suspicious and sly. He was more of an observer than someone who would help. It hadn't felt write to me back then and I was right. Also I probably wouldn't have reacted like this to a character who wasn't our girl's meant-to-be but had a relationship with our girl. Locke was just not reliable. I also wanna talk about Nicasia. I saw Nicasia on a good light at the end of the series. I even wanted her and Jude to be friends. Because I love people becoming friends after the problems are over and everything is resolved. I liked how Nicasia wanted to help Jude, who was basically her enemy in many aspects, to save Cardan. I think her love was real at the end of the day. There is a saying in my country "You are either mine or black soil's" meaning you either be with the person or die. Nicasia wasn't like this and this move made me appreciate her. Now about Jude and Cardan's relationship. I just love them. I think they fit together so well. You know, Jude didn't tell Cardan what she had been trough in the undersea. And I really felt like she needed a break, maybe a hug or time to cry silently beside Cardan. You know, crying refresh you sometimes. Sometimes it's something we need. But, of course she didn't. It's in her nature. But the thing is, Cardan knows it. Cardan knows how Jude is always hiding things and going through the pain alone. I love that. And I hope one day Jude begins to open up about everything to Cardan. But even if she doesn't, I think Cardan will manage it. He knows how she is. Ghost and Taryn. I like the idea and I would like to see it work. And it would be just so nice. Like, the human one is actually a widower who killed her own husband and is carrying his baby while owning everything he has left behind. The Faerie one being a spy directly under the High King and Queen, also being the Queen's spyhood friend while the human is the High Queen's twin sister. It's complicated, making people wonder how it could be done but since they personally know the king and the queen it's possible. And I would like to see how their life would be like. Oak. I would really love it if Oak had his own series. Or something that follows the Cruel Prince triology. The last time I saw him, he wasn't quite eager to wear the crown. Jude and Cardan are also doing a good job on the throne. So maybe their children could be the next rulers. But I would love to see it. See the afterward of the story. Imagine Oak having his own set of adventures, maybe meeting a girl, learning how to rule or how to assist the ruler... And if something like that happened, we would get to see Jude, Cardan and their children. I would be overjoyed. End of the pharagraf. But I could actually return and write soemthing more in here when I have time.

And unfortunately it didn't for me. I only liked the DeQuincy party fight in Clockwork Angel and last 60 pages in Clockwork Princess(because of Will and Jem's friendship) and the whole rest of the series is a big no for me. The characters were very bland for me. I don't like love triangles much. So naturally a series with love triangle as main plot is a no.

For anyone who didn't like or understand Cardan's actions in The Cruel Prince.....I'd recommend reading How The King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories. It is not just a prequel book, we also see some moments from the trilogy in his point of view and what lead to him treating Jude the way he did. Idk maybe you might still not like him, but it makes more sense from his perspective. Also the artwork in that book is just gorgeous. Love The Folk of the Air books! Edit: the original trilogy is all through Jude's pov so I feel like we really were supposed to hate Cardan at the start because Jude genuinely did. That is why I think reading his book from his pov is so important for those that hate him, or feel like their romance "came out of nowhere".

I've read a few of those (SOC holds my lifeline, and im really, really terrified for AEITA because i actually haven't read EMBER3 let alone 4 and my sister told me it's just heartbreak the whole book, so im terrified LOL). if i had any rec, it's Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, i read it back in 2015 and it's the first YA fantasy book i read (in English)! ever since i basically exclusively read in English and it rekindled my love for books so I defo recommend it, it's very vivid and rich OH ALSO. when you said "some characters later in the series are really likeable" about the grisha trilogy I JUST KNEW because i felt the same way, everyone was kinda meh (though i do like the darkling but that's just. uh. my hoe side talking) but Nikolai... NIKOLAI... my insufferable angel... anyway i need to stop talking LOL thanks for the video!!

I was worried when you put 2 of Cassie Clare's series in the bottom 7, but seeing TID and Six of Crows in your top 2 was definitely redeeming and I completely understand your criticisms for the books you reviewed! I love world building which is why I loved Throne of Glass and Cassie's books, but I agree with some of the criticism (*cough* "incest" *cough*).

Love your videos, we have similar taste in books and I just bought 6 of your recommendations from your previous videos. I LOVE The Shadowhunters Chronicles, all of them, and I’m in love with Jem Carstairs . Currently I am reading Six of Crows, it is soooo good! 😅 Love from Costa Rica 🇨🇷

I watched this video after it was sent to me by a friend. I really loved the way you reviewed these books! You explained the plots really well, and humorous might I add. I feel like I’d love to be your friend. I definitely shot infernal devices and six of crows to the top of my reading list!

Holly Black's first trilogy set in her modern faerie world (tithe, valiant, ironside) will forever be favorites. I have no idea if you've read them but they changed my life as a teenager, and even as an adult they hold up. definitely recommend!!! also if you dig YA fantasy & haven't read it yet... Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone is an all-time fav.

The Dark Artifices may be my favourite of Cassandra Clare’s series so far, but I can certainly recognise it’s not her best series. It just has my favourite characters in the overall series (Emma, Kit and Ty).

Ok I scrolled your Goodreads before recommending to make sure you hadn't read it before, but I would highly recommend The Captive Price trilogy by CS Pacat! Kind of toes the line between young adult diction and adult themes but very easy to blast through all 3 in a few days and extremely well thought out plot/character building. Loved this video and can't wait to binge your others since I finally realized you had a book channel!

I loved this video! I felt the EXACT same way about the Selection. Lol. Serpent & Dove is something I considered buying until I saw that you agree with Cindy (I saw her review as well). So glad you agree so I can save myself the trip. With Mortal Instruments, I jumped out after the unfortunate turn of events too.
