Haha 😂 but seriously, blonde girl here had her first book crush on Gilbert Blythe and realized later my dream guy had many of his qualities & characteristics… Right down to the dark hair. I even imagined having babies with black/dark brown hair and blue eyes. After many miscarriages and battling infertility, our miracle baby has a lot of my husband’s looks and personality BUT although he did get the blue eyes (mine), he surprised EVERYONE by also getting my blonde hair! My first loss, like Anne, was a daughter and we have always pictured her having the long dark curls and her daddy’s eyes (it’s like looking into a galaxy). My husband could totally be described as boyfriend/soulmate book material! Kind, caring, loyal, sensitive, but with that bad boy edge and the full knowledge that he can and will destroy anyone who hurts me. I’ve always called him my “Dark Knight”. 😉 🖤

justice for Peeta lol he’s a soulmate for me. I don’t think he’s very passive by nature, but just made insecure by circumstances. everywhere else besides Katniss, he takes initiative in a really crafty, kind of scary way. boy is too clever. and he’s the one who always initiates the feelings talk whenever he would get even a hint of encouragement, he was dealing with a tough emotionally stunted girl, after all. I just really appreciate a male character who, even though he *is* physically strong, doesn’t choose that route, but goes instead with his brains and heart. he’s the emotional center of the series, and owns me forever ✋🏻

Yeah Peeta never seemed passive to me, he usually knows exactly what he’s doing, he just tackles problems with clever wording instead of aggressive behavior. One of the greatest things he did for me was apologizing to Katniss for holding her to stuff they did in the games and asking to just be friends rather than expecting more. THAT is what I want to see more of, not the chasing/pressuring we so often see especially in the context of the Hunger Games where half the characters are traumatized. I don’t think Peeta would come across as so passive if his love interest were emotionally available, it IS a two way street after all.

We’re very used to seeing people ignoring boundaries or persistently challenging them as a romantic/cute thing - which as someone with important boundaries I need to function (autism) I’ve really not been a fan of. Peeta would be a great guy IRL as well as in the story, unlike a lot of other love interests who are only really fun in the fantasy

Jem and Will being at the top... it just feels right. They are just two CLASSIC book boyfriends, I can't explain it. I dont know if someone will ever dethrone them. Like I have love many book boyfriends after them but they will always be at the top of my list. And I think it similar for a lot of people.

I remember absolutely screaming out of love for Jem and Will in 2014 and its crazy to see they're still stealing hearts and made it to the top of the tier

I'd say a large amount of Aaron Warner's appeal is what you said, most of us were younger when we first read Shatter Me. Warner was most of our first introduction to "bad boys". (This might seem bare minimum now, but this is 2010s romance books we're talking here) Aaron never put Juliette down, recognised her emotions and fears sometimes even before she did, he always seen her as his equal but wanted her to be more, he was smart and above almost everyone in intelligence, he was actually funny and quick witted, he was hot (obviously) he's actually one of the only blonds most of us fangirls simped for at the time, him having a weak spot for fashion, him being a romantic and calling Juliette "love", he likes to read, DIMPLES, he's had a tragic childhood (like every bad boy though lol), he's always one step ahead in some way, and would do anything, anythingg for the girl he loves. Especially in the final 3 books. Even for his friends although he doesn't act like he cares about them (and to be fair, sometimes he doesn't. But when Nazeera's brother was depressed, Aaron was there for him and never held him helping Nazeera's brother against either of them when he could have) He might seem like every other bad boy character, but I think nostalgia and the long forgotten 2010s dystopian vibes add to why so many of us love him. I think ppl that dislike him are probably just older and have read many books with bad boys so they're tired of the trope(love him but understandable honestly). Most people that dislike him only read the first book (where we are supposed to dislike him because it's in Juliette's pov and at that time, she hates Warner). Anyway that's why I think so may of us simp for Aaron Warner. Just the fact alone that he'd truly do anything for his girl and she's actually his entire world/ the first person to ever love him. Also him already having a large fanbase helps new fans to love him more. EDIT: Warner also perfectly speaks many languages. It's just so hot. Warnette fans, am I forgetting anything?

Will (sorry not sorry, is a gorgeously crafted character with the biggest heart in the entire Shadowhunters saga) Bonus: Kit (don't know if I would date him, but he's my all-time fave)

Can’t agree more with “He’s not his daddy.” Too real. Will & Jem #1 James #2 Julian #3 Jace #4 I adore all the boys but honestly Will and Jem are just on a complete other level than the others. They ruin all other Shadowhunter men (and outshine the protagonists - which is saying a lot cause I do love Tessa and Cordelia).

I'll never understand their appeal besides being dark-haired and good-looking. One talks about feminism but will do the exact opposite, one follows everything his master orders like a dog, and the other one has only 2 sentences in an entire book. Lucien's more fun and maybe I can get behind Cassian, but Rhys and Azriel??

LUCIEN IS MY FAVORITE TOO!! he’s the only guy in this series who isn’t sex-obsessed and “softer” in a way. That’s why he has much more appeal to me😭

I‘m so grossed out by the bat boys for how many times they sexualize the girls in the series and think they have the biggest muscles and dicks (remember when Nesta was unhealthy thin and sick and Cass talked about her big boobs?). Not to mention when they joke about f*cking their mates. Lucien‘s the only one normal and an actual gentleman. At least he worried about Elain‘s health instead of sexualizing her when we read his thoughts.

i genuinely want to understand the magic, curse, deal with the devil, or CRACK that was used to literally embody will herondale's character with the ability to put so many readers into a chokehold for YEARS like he has been the only book character i ever felt like i could've been genuinely in love with and i barely remember the series

Oh god ranking all the shadowhunter boys is soooo hard, but let's try anyway 5. Jace Herondale : I love him but the boy was ready to risk it all for incest....and I don't know how I feel about that. Also, I don't know why but I absolutely loved him when I first read the series, but now after being introduced to all the other guys, he is definitely at the lowest. 4. Julian Blackthorn : I love him quite a bit coz he's so sharp, knows how to take care of his family, loves them so much, is an artist and is incredibly cute BUT he is also kinda manipulative and that side of him always puts me off, just a little bit though. 3. James Herondale : He is literally the cutest boy in the entire shadowhunter world, like he's literally a fluffball. He has some serious communication issues, but I mostly blame that on the Gracelet (iykyk), also he literally learnt Farsi for Cordelia and ik that if someone did that for me I'd completely melt 2. Jem : Do I even need to justify this??? He is just perfect. He plays the violin, battled his addiction for the ones he love, constantly tells Tessa how pretty she is in Chinese and was fine with his best friend and fiance getting together solely because of how much he loved both of them. The only reason he's not first is coz I need someone who can talk with me constantly and I know that he is just not like that 1. Will Herondale : Literally one of the best characters I've ever read!!!! We all already know why he is amazing so I'll just justify putting him on top. First of all he loves books, that alone shot him to the top, also he can literally talk for hours and that is exactly the kind of person I'd want, I take life wayyyyyy too seriously so he is the perfect balance for me and personally, the singing and ducks are pros for me 😁😁
