6 Things You Should Never Say in a First Time Conversation
What are the worst things you’ve ever said in a first-time conversation?
From the wrong way to compliment someone to asking people about their salaries, how much they pay for their homes, and talking about your company and colleagues, we all say things that may be inappropriate in a first-time conversation.
In some situations, there is a more tactful way to say something - and this video presents your alternatives. In other situations, it’s best not to say anything at all - and I’ll tell you just when to let it go. I’ll teach you how to say things better, so that you don’t hurt anyone’s feelings.
With this video, my aim is to help you realize the worst things to say so that when you ARE talking to someone for the first time, you know exactly how to approach the conversation. This makes you feel confident and relaxed. And that’s what we’re all about - Confident Conversations.
Enjoy the video!
Emma,
Your English Confidence Coach

These conversation skills are relevant in English-speaking countries, but in many other places around the world too! Do these same tips apply in your culture too?

Well hey Emma again! Keep the first "like" from me apparently! As I suppose, these conversation skills you went through are considered relevant 'n' universal in every country or a culture around the world 'cause these tips can be used in any kind of life situation either at work, at home or even in a public place, in a vehicle or anywhere else. Your advice are actually very very helpful 'n' of course, they help avoid many inconvenient, uncomfortable 'n' just unpleasant situations between the people. Thanks, Emma a lot for great educational videos you're making for us! I do appreciate your work!

How funny you are when you ask "how much money do you make?". Here in France we totally avoid asking this question. Nobody talks about how much money he earns! Thank you for this lesson.

Hi Emma! Agree with your opinion. In Asia, We're felt uncomfortable and also felt a bit aggressively when someone just mentions their finances. Sadly, people (especially in the family, their son or daughter got boyfriend/girlfriend ), they thought that was an ordinary question! Btw, I am from Vietnam 🇻🇳 and I am a student!

You made a great point, like paraphrase it instead of saying what you're thinking out loud that might come out wrong. Often people said to me, you look so tired when I actually too lazy to wear make up.
Great Emma this was the right lesson I was waiting for, meeting people and start a conversation isn't always so easy, especially if you don't know them very well. Thank you for your advice - I'll see you next week beso
