6 Signs You May be too Hard on Yourself

Are you too hard on yourself? Are you being too self-critical? If so, how do you stop being hard on yourself? It's good to become more aware of ourselves. What do you do when there’s poison inside of you? You remove it. But it’s not so easy as pushing an eject button and having it pop out, especially if the toxic is disguised as bad habits or unhealthy self-perceptions. A thought isn’t so easily discarded. But with enough practice, they can be questioned and better managed each time we aren’t so kind to ourselves. Here are 6 signs you may be too hard on yourself.

Psych2Go I personally like to focus solely on the things that I am proud of and things I’m really good at. Naturally, confidence is built in a hobby where you have strong skills. Psych2Go well even when other people tell me i’ve done something well, even when everyone congratulates with me, i feel like it’s not enough. i always tear myself down, i self sabotage and judge myself. like, i often find myself saying that i feel overwhelmed by my parents’ expectations, but i’m the one who expects too much from herself! and i don’t get how some people can think i’n doing great because i always feel like i’m gonna fail very soon. i can’t even take compliments! because i’m afraid that i don’t deserve them. and it sucks. it feels like you’re never gonna enjoy your life because you’re somehow stuck into bad thoughts. but thanks to your channel few months ago i finally decided to start doing something about my issues, so thank you. my previous comment was sarcastic, but your videos actually are one of the few things that make me wanna be a better person.

The ones who think they know us the most can be more harmful because they perceive who we are. I've had this with people around me and I realised it can be trauma bonding because we feel responsible for them the most over ourselves. That's not to criticise people's beliefs but it can happen. Be kind and listen to you and get support from people you know you can take advice from and keep breathing room for yourself xx

To be fair, Im definitely nowhere near as hard on myself as I was at age 10 (like I used to cry when I got a B bc I expected perfection from myself). Over time, I learned how to accept my failures and embrace the learning opportunities that came with them. Its hard when youre naturally inclined to put pressure on yourself, but putting too much pressure on anything will eventually make it break, even people.

Even if someone might be gone from my life... I personally believe they're still here. I believe that true live is stronger than anything, even death. Living on and trying to be happy for them is something I know would make them happy... so it's definitely worth it. I'm sorry if anything like that happened to you and I touched your wounds. I hope you'll be strong. If anything... I believe they're still with you.

When I’m frustrated or mad at myself for a mistake that I made or if I’m really stressed out, I tend to grab the back of my neck with two hands and just dig my nails and into my neck going from the back, to the side and to the front as hard as I can. My face as well turns red and I can feel it throbbing to the point where I just want to break down and cry. Sometimes there’s red claw marks on my neck from doing that.

Hey, Ayla, I'm no mental health professional, nor am I an expert in the topic of self harm, but I've struggled with self harm too and wanted to share some coping strategies with you. When I started cutting myself, I didn't really know why I was doing it, so I looked it up. Maybe you're feeling like you're not worth being in a friendship or a loving relationship with someone and feel that you should punish yourself. I felt that way too. School wasn't going great, my friends had left me, and I felt lonely and without purpose. Or maybe you just feel numb and empty. The thing that helped me get out of it was realizing that I wasn't doing myself any good. I started exercising and focusing on school to distract myself. I got together with friends more often and that really helped too. Now I consistently stick with exercise to keep myself from harm. The feeling of physically struggling through sports has replaced that pain for me. And on top of that I'm getting better and better everyday. My tip is to try running or weight training. You should also reach out to friends and family. Wish you the best!

I feel a lot of this stems from important aspects of a person’s life like their upbringing, being bullied/publicly humiliated, & negative environments in general. It’s good to have a channel that not only allows people to see the signs their dealing with, but also express why they’re feeling this way. I know for myself, I never really thought of my purpose in life, & once I did, I felt that I was too late. That I had wasted so much time on things & people that didn’t matter instead of my passion. Certain family members & so called “friends” didn’t help with bringing me down as well. It almost made me want to shut everyone out so I wouldn’t feel hurt again. But ultimately, I was upset at myself........at my circumstances & choices cause I wanted a better life than the one I was exposed to throughout my childhood. There are still things I dwell on constantly & memories I overthink on a daily basis, but I know in the end: I’ll be just fine. If you’re reading this, please feel free to talk about your struggles of being too hard on yourself. In a world full of selfishness, I want you to know that I genuinely care & understand what you’re going through. I may not be able to solve your problems, but I damn sure can listen.

I feel this and I think we should start to know our own value, not what other think about us. Most of the time other's just see one half or even less of what we're going through, so what I'm trying to do for myself right now is to acknowledge that I'm trying and I'm working hard to be better everyday and that I'm the only one who can see my own true value because I know the things I've had gone through to get here even if sometimes I failed myself It's okay, I'm human and I make mistakes, what matters is to leave the past behind and to keep striving to be better now, in the present moment. I know this is easier to say than to do it but I know I'll get there. I just realized you wrote this 3 years ago, how are you doing now?

This video hit home with me. My mother died almost 3 months ago and it's been next to impossible to try and get anything done around the house. My dishes are piled up, my grass needs to be cut, my older siblings have drug problems with one in jail and my two nieces are hurting as well. My depression I've had for over a decade has been worse than it has ever been before. I have no real friends that say they want to spend time with me but never actually do like my cousin one month back. She wanted to come over and play some video games but she didn't even notify me she was leaving town for that weekend. My old therapist said she was gonna call me but never did. All I ask is hang out with someone to get my mind off of this road but no one wants to help me unless it's convenient for them. I say to hell with all of them. Starting next month when the gyms open up, I'm going there weekly. I'm starting from scratch on rebuilding myself up again because nobody else will.

In the past, I was too nice for my own good. It got to the point where I neglected my needs. They took advantage of my kindness and used my good nature against me. I eventually put myself first, and I have flourished since.

I do all 6, I overthink, I never give myself a break, I never accept compliments (or it's hard for me too), I compare a lot, and I blame myself a lot too. And I can't go to anyone about it because they will just say the basic (you did fine, don't worry ab it, you overtink too much, your too hard on urself, etc) and it doesn't help me at all. But seeing these comments and realizing all these people who clicked on the video go through it too, I'm glad I'm not alone. Like I feel more comfortable telling all these strangers this than my own family lol- thanks for reading whoever made it this far God bless u have a nice day :)

I've definitely been too hard on myself, especially as of this year. I want to make things better but it seems like if I give myself a break and do something fun, it just makes things even harder and there's a very real danger of losing everything. Meanwhile, even if I push myself 24/7, there's still no guarantee that I'll get out of the predicament I'm in, and that just adds to my stress level

I don't understand why INFJs being the rarest personality type, have a hard time here on earth. Isn't it challenging to be an INFJ surrounded by people who rarely get them? Loving ourself doesn't come easily. As God deprived us of this ability to love ourself before others and we were only meant to suffer and serve others.

I understand what you mean, but maybe a good way to look at it is that there really isn't much of a normal? Everybody in one way or another has something going wrong with them to some degree, it's just different. Like, you have trouble reading. I suck at math. Somebody else might suck at driving/directions. Another person might have poor impulse control. I do get what you are actually saying, but perhaps you could think of it like this: in a way you are kinda normal since everybody on the planet struggles with something.

You know how you are always taught that "bullying only hurts if you let it"? Well the same can be said of compliments. If you keep going while dismissing every compliment as untrue, it doesn't matter how many people tell you how great you are, you will still not believe it. Let those compliments sink in. Dwell on them if you must. They can be signs that people care.
