i kinda think if you swapped kg and duncan for the magic it would make more sense due to kg not wasting his prime in a trash wolves squad and in 03 the finals of kg vs duncan would be one of the greatest matchups of all time. Also i still don't think this stops the 08 celtics due to grant hills injuries and tmac could still go to houston if kg leaves.

Cody Smith Webber wasn't a very good 3 point shooter he shot less then .300 for his career. He shot below .250 from deep when he played with Sacramento, and the only time he played with another good post player was in Sacramento with Vlade Divac.

That's a fair point I just think that in order to be effective playing with Shaq Webber would have had to change his game to much and the Magic still wouldn't have had the guard play to get them the ball and balance the offense.

Here's a cool butterfly effect I read once: What if the New Jersey Nets drafted Kobe Bryant. They apparently almost did but ended up going with Kerry Kittles. I'd imagine since Kittles was much better out of the gate with Kobe they don't get the 1 empty playoff appearance they got but do get 2 lottery picks. In '97 they can draft T-Mac! Year 3 Kobe starts coming into his own and the Nets can probably still make the Marbury trade mid-year and maybe they make the playoffs. That's a pretty impressive core, maybe they still decide to make the Kidd trade, maybe they don't since it's uncertain how he fits. But that's a championship core, so the east gets it's powerhouse. Who knows, maybe the Nets don't even move to Brooklyn.

Just imagine if the raptors allowed both T Mac and carter to run the offense? I know what you going to say oh they was similar probably would’ve never worked. I think the raptors shitted on themselves for allowing t Mac to walk. I know he wanted his own team and all of that but if you bring in a respective coaching staff that would sell a dream to the pair I believe that they would of stayed together and would of probably change the 2000

With Grant Hill I think he pushed himself back to early and knowing that TMac and Duncan are there to hold it down he probably wouldn't push himself to get back so early and been more careful about it because Phoenix was able to fix him while he was older but also no pressure to come back. So I think the psychological implications that come from not carrying Orlando on his back would help him to take it slower and be healthy.

Also this would have effected the west in the early 2000s. The lakers would have been irrelevant which means the spurs would have been in the finals even more times. The only thing stopping the spurs in the early 2000s was the lakers. Had the lakers not been relavent. I think we would have saw not 1 but a few finals between Duncan and Shaq.

actually, never mind the fact that they could had chris bosh, but mehmet okur was a great player in his prime and an all star and people forget he was on that team in 2004. i know keeping him would been expensive but they could have freed up some cap to re-sign him and of course at the time they had to keep rasheed to re-sign. they also had mike james. that team was so stacked even with that horrible draft pick but they let a couple significant players go that could have had them winning more than one championship. god. those were the times. the dynasty that never happened.

As a Spurs fan, I think the 2000s were awesome. As hard as it was losing to the lakers in the playoffs, those matchups were classic.

The thing about drafting Webber instead of penny is that their starting pg would be Scott skiles. In 1995 and 96 penny was all NBA first team so the magic wouldn't be as good and shaq would still probably leave

Shaq and Webber sound great together on paper but their playing styles at that time were way to similar to each other. People seem to forget that Shaq wasn't just a back to the basket center when he was with Orlando, he was kind of a center, power forward hybrid. Plus they had no guards to get them the ball and spread the defense out so they would have room to work.

Shaq and Webber might have been the same as A.D. And Boogie now. Perfectly mediocre. Or since play styles were different in the 90's, would they do better?

If the Spurs don't have Duncan, there's a HIGH likelihood the franchise moves (to St. Louis, or Anaheim, or San Diego, or Memphis...or somewhere). At the time, the Spurs were well-run, yes, but because they were in Texas and had no arena, the NBA could've forced a sale to a market that had better attention for basketball and an arena. Remember three teams (Grizzlies, Hornets, Sonics) moved in the 2000s? Spurs could've been No. 4

I think Shaq wudda left Orlando no matter who his teammates were. LA was west coast hollywood money. Its too much more desiarable than small market Orlando...no offence to Orlando, but its hard to convince someone to stay there when winning in LA/Miami/New York is on the other line.

Orlando isn't even the biggest city in its own state...about 250k people in the inner city. Also compared to other NBA cities Orlando is the 19th ranked city in terms of population. It's not a free agent destination, its only been competitive when they've drafted great centers (Dwight/Shaq) and both left...to BIG markets. The only time a free agent came to Orlando was Tracy Mcgrady...and that was because he lived there and they gave him the most money apart from Toronto. He wudda gone back to Toronto if they weren't stupid and actually let him start and play with Vince rather than behind him. Im sorry if it hurts but the truth is compared to New York, LA, Chicago, Dallas or Miami or even teams like Boston, San Antonio, with good coaching and championship pedigree, there ain't much hope for a team like Orlando. They have to draft talent and overpay free agents. Whats worse is they've missed on draft picks a lot and paid players like Bismarck money they don't deserve.
